Listen to Aterry. He is right. You work with NSU and they will work with you. They are very fair.

Krahis, just an suggestion, do not miss more than 80% class time. You will be in trouble. Getting someone to scan you... dude the teach can call you up in class. Some do. If you ain't there you are in big time trouble. You will get a "Academic" black mark which you will have to disclose for the Dean's letter during your residency application. Bad for you. You do not need that stress along with all your hard classes. By the way, B'chem will haunt you till the end of your medical career. This is one of the"IT"" subjects.

If you are in doubt write to Dr W. He is prompt with a reply.

The Sharklink is very easy to work with once you get the hang of it. It is very efficient

In my last 3 years NSU came out true for me. The staff the faculty are good. Good luck all of you.

I've spoken to numerous M2's that skip class often and have never had a problem with the 80% issue. Shrug. I don't plan on skipping nearly that much, but certain lectures I may avoid when convenient - Dr Block's is definitely one of them. To each their own I suppose.

I'm curious as to your take on biochem; how would it haunt you? Perhaps the speed/subject matter ramps up quickly, but the material for this first exam is so basic I'd barely even call it biochem.. it's more like bits taken from 200 level bio undergrad courses. Anyone else agree/disagree? I'm just trying to figure out what to expect from here on out for some of these classes. Same with Physio, pretty basic so far. Do these classes spike upward with their difficultly after the first exams?

Both subjects you will need during boards, rotation and residency for diagnosis. More b' chem than the other. The physicians will question you during rotations. What you learn now is foundation the rest is your own work. It is all tied in to diagnosis. You will see as you progress. Therefore I say these subjects will haunt you! About 80% attendence- I and my peers were called in front of 6 members questioned about attendence. I was nearly in tears. I had a good reason. I was fortunate, my peers are in deep sh... If a student get some one to scann him/her the teach can call you up during class. If you are not there, you have lied. And these members that question you are are head of departments where you might do residency. So, you think you will get residency in that hospital? Forget it. That is all I can say. You have worked too hard to get to NSU do not sc.. it by small mistakes. You want to be a physician forget fun. We did.

Just wanted to congratulate you all on completing your first exam 🙂 Congrats on getting off to a strong start and dealing with your first few weeks of school (that's no small feat).

I know you guys are all workin hard studying for anatomy and physiology. Keep it up and I'm sure you'[ll do great!

wow - major bumb! its been a month since anything has happened on here. welcome to med school i guess. i am not liking this biochem exam.
 
I had a question for you guys. Have you heard any information on a placement exam one can take to get out of biochemistry. I think I heard about it during the interview that if you pass the exam you can sort of TA the course instead of taking it for a grade. I figure it would give a student more time to focus on the other classes of that semester rather than biochemistry. Do you think this is a test I should attempt to prepare for now before attending (I got my BS in Biochem and have gotten A's in my 2 graduate biochem classes). Thanks for your help.

I haven't heard of such a thing. They do let the SMP students that were accepted to the DO program do that if they got a 90 or above in a course. But they had to take biochem with us during their masters program.

There's no such exam unless they plan to have it next year, which I doubt.

Alright, I'll try asking Dr. Whitehead about it because I believe he was the one who mentioned it. Thanks for the responses.
