NSUCOM Self Reported Matches 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wonder who matched at Mayo

A girl from Broward track, she was real good

thats solid. i always like to see the one they send out with the names and "thoughts about matching"...lets me know who among us was smart and hiding it. haha

Anybody know if TUCOM and OUCOM are good neuro programs? I haven't seen a USF or Cleveland Clinic in several years...

I can't answer your question. BUUUT...

On a sidenote, the 2013 class is freakishly smart (with the exception of myself)

I've studied with my classmate headed to OUCOM, she's wanted to do neuro since early second year. Extremely smart, alien-like memory would be the best way to describe her. She could cram hundreds of pages of notes within 4 days of a test, regurgitate 90% of it, explain it conceptually and remember it for months afterward. She's at the higher end of the class.

I know the one headed to Cleveland Clinic IM in Ohio and 1/2 headed to Cleveland Clinic Florida. Their hometowns are both in those respective areas and they were (obviously) very good students as well.

And of course, the two Ortho matches...one is like a God. A son of Zeus, if you will. Or so I've heard.

You guys have that already?

Haha, I don't know about that, more like very lucky!

There are some real smart people who did the DO primary care thing, one in particular will be at Palmetto, probably one of the smartest dudes in our class, if not the smartest. Another is going to Dupont's children for peds, again, very smart guy.

If I'm thinking of the same person, yeah he could've easily gone elsewhere. Think he wanted to be near his girlfriend.

How competitive is Cleveland Clinic Florida for IM? I noticed in IM there are 2 going to Jackson Memorial and 1 to U. Miami/Jackson Memorial. Aren't those the same programs?

It's not that competitive to my understanding. Its a nice, community program, with somewhat of an academic feel. It's relatively small (less than 10 interns per year), but they do have in-house fellowships in cards, GI, nephro, pulm, and geriatrics. it's not the same as CC in Ohio, just like mayo in Arizona is not the same as mayo in Rochester.

Thanks for the info!

Just thought I would add -- my match wasn't on there. I did the allopathic match only and matched to my top choice in Family Medicine at University of Tennessee. COMLEX only and did an MPH as well. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

Congrats! You'll do great!

heres a self reported match list for NSUCOM 2013...not comprehensive yet, but close. sorry if this has been posted already.

*sniff* my babies are all grown up! I'm so proud. 😀

I actually did the allopathic match for Neuro last year from NSU so if there's anything I can help you with let me know 🙂

Oh, where to begin? 🙄 I'll send you a PM. I have a few questions, but I will take any advice I can get, including long rants of literally anything you'd like to share about matching neuro and beyond. Thank you!

There is one match to a Dental residency. I'm assuming it's one of the DO,DMD graduates. Is it a GPR they matched into?

Looks like NSU matched every IM spot at Mt Sinai! I know this is one of the core rotation sites, but any insight on individuals from other schools applying?

Not only did they match all Nova students, they matched all girls, many guys with pretty good numbers wanted Mt. Sinai from my class but didn't get it. There were some jokes about one of the chiefs being a womanizer, or so I heard haha.

Wow! Knew it would be a competitive place, but didn't realize it was this intense. Well, hopefully they will at least consider a male from a different school!

Is this Mt. Sinai related to Mt. Sinai in New York ?? (Sorry this might be a ridiculous question).

Also, can someone explain the GPR dental residency match at NOVA? My understanding is that GPR dental residencies are optional for dentists, so this person would only be able to practice as a dentist after completing the residency.

I noticed that Mt. Sinai in FL has two IM programs. One AOA, one ACGME. Neither has dual accreditation, though there are a few DOs and the ACGME program. Is this a way for them to have more spots than the ACGME alone would allow?

this match list is pretty impressive.

is this the usual for nova?

Can't comment on the why but I can tell you that they are very much independent programs with separate staff, students and cultures. Both are good programs to match into. JagrPlate, maybe it would be a good idea to throw an ACGME side application in addition to the AOA side if you are concerned about the number of NSU grads matching there.

It's a DO/DMD dual program graduate. Each class has a handful. I suppose this one in particular decided after however many ungodly years of school (7 I think?) that they wanted to be a dentist after all.
