NSUCOM vs KCUCOM vs AZCOM

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Preface: I know little to nothing about AZCOM other than the tuition is tremendous.

Also: I'm directing my comment more towards deciding to attend these schools. You should definitely attend the interview at NSUCOM. Awesome school.

Just to start the comparison off... Obviously location plays a role (beaches vs. relatively large city vs. AZ..)

I know NSU has a dual degree PhD program if you are interested in that route. KCU has cool dual degrees but not a PhD dual degree (that I'm aware of..)

Academically, they are all great schools..

If you want to practice in FL obviously NSU is a great choice, but KCU has rotations in FL as well.

Tuition-wise, obviously AZCOM kind of sucks here. KCU is a bit cheaper than NSU.

Cost of living will be higher at NSU than that of KCU or AZCOM.. Between KCU and AZCOM I don't know.

In the end: Attend where you think you will thrive the best as a student, not which school you think will look better on paper. And definitely attend the NSUCOM interview if you are interested! You never know what school you may fall in love with.

NSU has dual programs like DO/MBA, DO/MPH, DO/MSBI, DO/MSDEM, DO/Nutrition, DO/JD and you get a good deal if you do it. I am only paying $4,000 total for the MPH degree! I heard DO/PHD was still under development last year though, not sure about now.

Some things to consider - NSU has strong clinical education/rotation sites, research, and international outreach opportunities.

All but one rotation site are in FL with a few in NY and one in GA. The rotation sites are well established and most students get their 1st or 2nd choice and don't have to move around. This is something not all DO schools have but imo important. M1/M2 also have IGC preceptorship classes where you are assigned to a preceptor that you shadow once per month for early clinical experience. If you're lucky, some preceptors let you see a lot and teach you lots of clinical pearls. NSU is also building a hospital on campus!

NSU also has plentiful research opportunities if you are interested. With little try you get easily get on 2-3 projects or even create your own if you can find a PI who likes your idea. Heck, our cardio phys professor has 10+ research projects going on. NSU just also built a collaborative research center and will open in 1-2 months for even more goodies. (more info see - http://www.nova.edu/research/ccr/).

If you are interested in international outreach, NSU offers many opportunities for students. Lots of M1/M2 go to Jamaica, India, and Ecuador..etc during summer/winter/spring break. You get to see and do a lot yourself on patients and present them to attending and imo is a very rewarding experience.

I can go on and on but you will never see if you don't attend the interview.

TL;DR - go to your interview, you might like it.
