I have a couple of NYC interviews coming up and was wondering if anyone had tips on where to stay. I need a hotel for a couple of days that is cheap, safe, and relatively centrally located to MSSM, cornell, columbia, NYU. I have resident hosting for some nights.

thanks

RK7,

Sorry to tell you this, but New York City hotels are expensive. You might want to try the Amsterdam Court Hotel, which is located in Midtown. It has a four-star rating and goes for about 135 per night (very, very reasonable for that area). Also, I'm not sure if you are a member of AMSA (American Medical Students Association), but they offer a 20% discount on some hotels including the Comfort Inn. The Comfort Inn listed in the link below, is located on the So, check out the following link, and good luck on your interviews!

I recently interviewed in NYC and I stayed at the Bestwestern- Manhattan (on 32nd st.). It was $99 a night and in a pretty safe location. It's kinda on the Southern end of manhattan but it was easy enough for me to get to my interviews (I interviewed at Cornell and Columbia) by subway.
Anyway, I hope that helps some. Good luck.

If you're interviewing at Cornell and know anybody on staff/enrolled, you might try staying at Cornell's hotel Helmsley Towers (info is on the cornell web site). With a student/staff sponsor who has a picture ID they'll give you a discounted rate--about $110 I think-- and the rooms are pretty nice (with kitchenette), and it's right across the street from Cornell.

My God!

Have you all never heard of budget travel?

Try Americana Inn ~$70

and

Hosteling International New York ~$35

I've stayed at both of these places. You should be aware that they are not traditional hotels. At the first, you will have a private room and a shared bathroom. At the second, you will have a shared dorm room (aprox. 6 people) and a shared bathroom. Both places are clean and safe. Americana is around 38 and B-way. I think it is a great value. I also had a good time at the hostel. I shared a room with three really cool and interesting guys from Bulgaria.
