Bro, I was religiously working on the hops. I swear, it was like blood, sweat, and tears type of training. Then Arizona decided to start the summer weather by heating up to 110 degrees so I decided, screw it. Oh well, I guess I can just try to get bigger. As far as New York, I think I'm coming in on the 17th or so. That reminds me, I gotta purchase my ticket this week sometime.

That letter really sounds familiar, but I went through all the paperwork I received from NYU and didn't see anything like that. I guess I'll be getting that letter some time soon?

You all flying into NYC?
Anybody driving?

I'm gonna drive actually, I hope the line at the Niagara border crossing isn't too long. I've got too much stuff to carry on board a flight.

That's what my plan was initially but i've been warned so i'm thinking about it again. How the heck am i gonna get rid of all the stuff that i have.

Do any of you guys plan on having a car? If so, can I be your friend? 😀

Hey which number am I supposed to call to get my ID # and register? I have been calling diff nyu numbers and they are never there and I leave msgs for these people yet they have not gotten back to me!

Call Admissions, at 212-998-9818, someone almost always picks up . Ask them to give you your NYU ID# and the "torchtone" number that you use to register over the phone.

also, did you not receive a big packet with all of the computer & pda requirements and also the immunization requirements? in that big packet, on the front welcome page, they should have provided you with your student ID number as well as directions to register using the Torchtone phone thing.

and yeah...i have noticed that the only people who consistently almost always pick up are admissions. everyone else you have to be anal about calling back bc they're always either at lunch or on the other line.

Did most of you get your financial aid packet? I filled out my FAFSA over 2 months ago and still haven't gotten anything. I called and they said it's still being processed. How long did it take for you guys to receive it?

Call NYU housing, they should know by now if you're guaranteed a spot. You'll find out the type of room and which rez you'll get assigned to at the beginning of August.

I've got a question regarding laptops again. I'm thinking of buying the Dell E1505 (aka 6400) or the Dell Dimension D620. Which is a better notebook???? I know the Dimension is a kick-ass business machine, but I want gaming capability too. Will the E1505 satisfy both?

I know that some of you guys have already but E1705s and E1505s, so gimme your 2 cents please!

thanks

Hey Galen, I got the 6400 and its working great. Its the 1.83 ghz with 1 GB RAM, and a 120 GB harddrive, sxga+ monitor (great for movies). I wish I could have got a mac though, they're so much funner to play with. Anyways, good luck shopping. 👍

So it meets NYU's requirements eh... Did you get the 3 year warranty as well?

Wait for it, we all do. I'm entering my second year at NYU and I still haven't received my packet. Hope to see you at orientation, I'll be at the ASDA (American Student Dental Association) booth.

I know of many colleagues who have a Apple laptops, and find no issues with compatibility. I'm considering switching to Apple once this machine passes away. Don't be intimidated or fooled by the school's rhetoric, there's no immediate urgency to have a PC.

From what i know, Kips Bay Court apartments at 28th street and 3rd Ave. have no openings through Sept. I would suggest you make plans to visit and search. Being physically there and having a look at some of these places would be of great benefit to you, that's if you haven't done so already.

Does anyone still need a roommate? I am looking to room at Waterside Plaza in Sept. I am not too sure if there are any vacancies for 2 bedrooms but I know 1 bedrooms and studios are all taken out.

If you are interested in rooming, please do email me at [email protected].

For current and future NYUCD students: Did you guys get 3 year warranties on your laptops like the computer requirements state??? Is it mandatory? How would the school check anyway? Some of the warranties are up to $350 on the machine I wanna get, I'd rather just take my chances...

Hey Galen,

I got the 3 year warranty, I was lucky bc it was only for another additional $99 for the 6400 dimension laptop. If it breaks down after the 1st year warranty is up which happens most of the time if the laptop is to break down anyways since no problems usually occur the first year of warranty coverage you can't just bring it to the NYU dell store and get it repaired for free, instead they will charge you a fee to even look at it and then give you an estimate on how much it will cost to repair the problem. If you get the sxga+ screen that alone is worth 700 bucks so I would get the warranty.

Cool, yeah I'm gonna probably order it tomorrow, there's a good promo on it right now... The guy at the kiosk told me if you get the NBS onsite repair option on the warranty plan you can take it to any certified Dell repair location in the world and they'll repair it (including the NYU bookstore).

Hey guys, for all of you tennis fans who is interested in going to catch some US OPEN tennis in the first week of school? I've never been to a grand slam so it'll be special indeed, but of course I'll probably only be able to get tickets for the qualifying rounds and maybe the 1st or 2nd round of matches, hopefully with nadal or federer.

I don't if anyone cares, but i am planning on going to see Better than Ezra and Sister Hazel at the Nokia theatre on Aug 23 (Wed). I love to go to concerts, so if anyone is interested in joining up, let me know. I hope everyone has been doing well. It's pretty hard to believe that I will be in NYC in about a month!

I'm up for the open 24/7.
Me neither, i have never been to grand slam event. And now is my chance coz it's virtually next door. When do the tickets go on sale and when is the draw?

And also, how does the intramural activities work at NYU? Coz i would love to sign up for tennis (singles, doubles, mixed, whatever i can get).

But one things for sure, my tennis is not going to suffer coz of dental school.

I'm not really a huge tennis fan, but I am a big sports fan and would definately be interested in catching some of the US open.

Hey Vaio I was just wondering how much the rent for a studio at Waterside Plaza costs if you don't mind.

As for dorms, I called housing up and they should be able to tell you if you are guaranteed a spot. You can also check your housing status on home.nyu.edu under NYU Life. Click on Housing forms. Hope that helps.

Is anyone doing the voluntary research project on August 22nd? Its the one day session on Dental Anatomy and supposedly you receive $300 and a dental anatomy book for participating. And if you score on avg 70 on the exam at the end of the day its an extra $200. Sounds pretty cool but also a long day.

Was also wondering if anyone knows how to get Conan O'Brien tickets and if anyone would want to go watch him?

I'm gonna participate in that research project...the $300 alone sounds good enough for me after making $10/hour for a year.

😱 If only you could see my jaw drop to the ground. I thought a one room apt/studio in La Jolla, CA for around $1000 was expensive but $1800 for a studio!!! Dang.

For real. I'm down to catch the Open. I must go and profess my love for Maria Sharapova...I wonder if she likes ugly dental students with sucky income potential combined with all sorts of financial troubles. 😍

But on a serious note, I love playing tennis for cardio, but I suck real bad. Anyone want to help a brotha out with his weekly cardio requirements?

Hey stay away from my girl! :meanie:

Sure, i'd be glad to help you out. It's crazy i was checking out the NYU's intramural activities website and i found out that they only have tennis tournaments in Spring and Summer and not in Fall. WTF??! That's absurd. Now I wish i had chosen Pittsburgh over NYU.

I also heard that it is really hard to get an open public tennis court in New York City, unless if you join a tennis club which is really expensive. I wonder if there is an ice hockey intramural team?

I'm sure NYU will have a few tennis courts on their main campus (judging from the amount of money we are paying) and we should be able to use them.

Has anyone else received the email regarding the BBL class? Apparently an assignment is due at the first class that takes time to prepare... The email also states that we have received a Vital Book (but we haven't). Confusing... Any thoughts?

My hunch is that the course will be available on "blackboard" during orientation week, as it is now "not yet available." As of now we can't access anything though.

Yup i got that email too, but i am too lazy to try anything, even logging on to blackboard.

I believe we don't get our Vital Books till the orientation.

check your nyu email. It was a few days ago.

The BBL course is available now. Our assignment is to read the first three chapters of the book and be ready to write an essay in class. I guess we don't get to ease into classes this time around.
