NYU-Class of 2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And I love it! It is so great living in this city! All of you are going to love it (well, unless you hate city life).

Good luck with your move!

I have officially prepared myself for my move from California. It is amazing how much "stuff," you collect and do not have the fortitude to throw-out. I am now living with a few boxes and feeling very Thoreau-ish; thus, I am ready. This is particularly good, as it appears $1600/mo in Manhattan buys a closet (may or may not be shared) 🙂

On to important issues for my classmates:

Are there any cyclist in the group? I currently practice with the Stanford Tri-team, and understand we can join the NYU team (mainly for practice). We should definately get some rides in before winter!

Also, does anyone else like Jazz?

Good luck for those of you moving, and I will see you on the 22nd.

If you get board I am on AIM: screename : cyclin

I prefer my bikes to have an engine... preferably 600ccs or or 🙂

I'm stoked about moving out there, I fly out of CA on the 15th.

I am in the same boat...I fly out the 20th, and I do not have a place. I have looked into a sublet for the first month, until I know my way around a bit better.

On a down note: I spoke with Marisol at financial aid today 😡 I just had a simple question and I believe she purposefully tried to make things difficult. She obviously does not like her job and it made me question if I have made a mistake regarding NYU. Too late now, since I have withdrawn my other acceptances. Thus, if I have to ride her like Zorro, she will "Show me the money." Since misery loves company, please share your experiences...

Also, is there any current NYUCD students doing the Air Force or military scholarship?

Sorry, Marisol is a BI*CH!!!!! She is NOT nice at all, has no manners, is difficult to deal with and seriously needs to be FIRED!

Sorry to hear that.
Well, like I said before, don't let those incompetent people affect you.
You will always have to deal with insecure rude people one way or another.
Don't waste of your time and energy for someone like that.
Think of it as a game and try to manipulate those people to help you get what you need. It is quite challenging but very useful skill in real life.
After all, miserable people have no pride or dignity of what they do.
I pity them. 😳

Hi, I am a 23 yr old Male student, very chill, respectable of personal space, friendly and studious looking for someone to lease/share a room with near E. 24th street 1st Ave. I do not have a place to live. Please PM me if your interested in looking for a place together or if you have a place available? I am comming from CA to NY on the 16th of August. Thanks

i got my housing stuff in. it sats that we check in on aug 28th. does that mean we cant move in aug 22?

i've been MIA for a few weeks, during my move to NYC...but i see there hasn't been much "A" for me to miss, aside from $$$ & housing matters....both which are very important 😱 !!

anyways, i'm commuting, pretty far for my liking, compared to undergrad....but u pay for what u get....and the further away u live, the nicer the apts.

good luck with the search ppl...i've been told a billion times that craigslist is really good...my sis found her 1st apt on craigslist 😀

don't forget that we can take the trolley from washington square to d.school, or lower manhattan...so living in those areas wouldn't be a huge problem - transport wise.

HOLY **** IM IN!!!!...i just found out today....funny that i am in NYC ...i paid the deposit....wooo hoooo...wow...unreal...i didnt think i would move on the waitlist...but its happened!!!....man....what a crazy turn of events

Dear any new NYUers. Do u guys think i have a chance with 3.05 GPA with AA:20, TS:21 and 15 PAT ( will take DAT again next month cuz of PAT)?? Thanks

Yes, you can get in! BUT you need to bring up the PAT, no doubt. I was in a reverse position...3.5 gpa, but my AA:19 with a low QR score(15). I take it you want to go to NYU...do you live in NY?

standford-NYU
i dont live in NY. Actually i live in OC, california and went to UCI which is a really competitive school for biology major. Thats why my gpa is not that high. I will definitely retake DAT for a higher PAT score

go get your health screen & immunizations quickly & start apartment hunting!

cya soon!

CONGRATS again!

i know how great it feels when u get an acceptance, after u've pretty much "given up"!! 😉

I am pretty lucky to be honest....i have a 2.8-2.9 gpa both cum and sci.... the past year i did postbac work and had a 3.85 while working in a lab full time. In the lab I was published 5 times and 1 first author...my 6th publication was accepted this month.....My DAT was 21/21/19...low score was 19...and high was a 25 in bio....i interviewed in april...and was placed on the waitlist....same with some other schools....i ended up emailing amy pretty much once every 2 weeks to reaffirm my committment.....and every couple of weeks...i would send by snail mail...a letter with what my research has been doing and my latest publications.....I pretty much harrassed her up till yesterday when finally she told me the good news...i happened to be in NYC today leaving to fly back to LA when I was contacted..i stopped by the school..got the acceptance..and droppeed off the deposit....I guess being persistent pays off....I also had plans to either go to BU or UMDNJ's biomed masters program (with a oral concentration) as backup...(the reason I was on the east coast was to look for housing)...they took that into consideration i think.....in anycase...my life changed today and im stoked...hope that helped

wow, great story aznsfla. Ill take ur story as a lesson. Wat others school did u recieve the interviews and get waitlisted???

Luck had nothin to do with that my friend. Hard work and dedication were keys to your success. Good luck in the fall!

An inspiring story.
I am very thrill to have such a dedicated and determined person in our class.
See you in a couple weeks.

applied in feb, got on the waitlist in may, was missing 19 credits of science and i would talk to amy from time to time and told her on my progress. i finished summer2 last week and got my acceptance yesterday. I am post back so i took 40 credits of science in 1 year and got in within this 1 year

Question:
1)if i already applied for fafsa, how do i actually get the loan?
2) what computer do you guys recommend

i bought a toshiba s325...1399-200(rebate)+250(3 year warranty)=1550. slaps on ibm t43. bought it from bestbuy. my friend works there(2 years) and over the years he has said toshiba is the most reliable. I like the comp.

i hope their is a FREE gym....but i doubt it.

Hey wassap people, Welcome to NYUCD.

Im a 2nd year student and just wondering if there are any freshman out there that need a place to bunk. Im gonna be looking for a 1 BR apt on the east side, within anywhere up to 20 mins to school. Im pretty easy going and easy to get along with. Im thinking rent will be around 850-950 for you, and cable and bills extra. I have some furniture already, thought not much. PM me if youre interested.

i didnt see the gym by the kaiser center, where did u see it aznsfla? when i looked at all the nyu pages, the closest gym seems to be palladium, which is in union square (14th st. and 3rd ave.), which is a small hike from the school. that one is 100 a semester though i think. i hope theres one we dont know about by the kaiser center, that would be clutch.

does anyone know what those weird numbers for the room assignments mean? im in 26th st. and i cant figure out what the numbers they gave me mean. if i'm in #10f5, what floor/room is that? if anyone is in stuyvesant and wants to switch to 26th, let me know. peace

why do u want stuvyesant so much?

i'm going to be doing a lot of traveling from the east side to the west side and vice versa, so i would like to be closer to the L train on 14th and 1st, since it would make this process easier (instead of taking the bus or transferring 2 or 3 times on the subway).

i thought i saw a gym right next to the kaiser center...literally next to..it was very dark tinted windows...its not obvious..but maybe it was just a storage type place..let me know if you guys have any details....

back to my original question....to all those people living off campus...how much are you guys paying or looking to rent for?....

I think FA allots us 1750 a month for 10 months... so 17500/12 ~ 1450 or so a month for normal year leases.

Personally I'm trying to go spend between 1-2k.

The palladium is FREE. Any NYU student has access to that gym. It is very nice, big, etc. It is a 10 minute walk from school (or you can ride the free trolly). There is also Coles gym which is down near the undergrad campus. That gym is even bigger.
Your room assignment means you live on the 10th floor.

does anyone know if we need a laptop for orientation week? I just ordered a new one and will not be here until aug 26th. I have an old one here, but don't feel like taking it with me to use for just one week.

Can we order the laptop online or over the phone? And if so, does anyone have to contact info? What laptops do ya'll suggest and what do you have?

Thanks!

just go to the NYU book store website at www.books.nyu.edu -> computers ... I ordered mine through them, they have cheaper prices on IBM laptops than what the IBM store sells them for.

or you can just buy one that fits the requirements from wherever you buy laptops at.

Holy crap I just landed in this Center of the ****ing world!! Manhattan is just amazing! I'm overwhelmed and blown away so far!

I'm currently on 17th and 1st.... anyone know if there's a pool we get access to through the school?

i was assigned to washington square village and i was wondering if i'm the only one in the entire dental school who is going to live there. d=

welcome to the big apple.

go to palladium on 14th & 3rd. the pool is there for u to use. the ppl working @ the front desk of the sports center are very nice, they will show u around.
u need your nyu card first though, it takes 2 minutes to get it. (can't remember the address, it's north of washington square park, if i recall correctly.
