NYU College of Dentistry Class of 2025 Interview/Acceptance Thread

Hey everyone!

got accepted NYU yesterday! Interviewed March 2nd, and got accepted the 3rd. Over the moon excited! There is still hope for everyone interviewing!

Stats:
from Canada
DAT (Canadian) 21.75
GPA 3.60

Would anyone be able to PM me the link to GroupMe for the c/o 2025? I deactivated my Facebook years ago so I'm not able to see it lol

for those who got accepted after getting waitlisted what did you do?
I was accepted off the waitlist but this was my personal situation:

I interviewed mid January and was waitlisted early February. I had a great interview but I had a sneaking suspicion that they waitlisted me since I was still waitlisted at one of my state schools (cost of attendance was 4x less than that of NYU, and the NYU adcoms know that).
Going off that suspicion, I called them in late February, and told them I intend to go to NYU even if my state school accepts me. Literally 2 hours later they called me back and asked if I would be ready to post the deposit. I told them that I can pay the full $5,000 right away by any payment method. They thanked me and told me I can expect to hear back in the next few days.
And sure enough, 2 days later I received my formal acceptance letter.

That is very interesting. Why are you choosing NYU over your State's school since cost is so much more?

There's a few reasons:
  • I lived in the Midwest my entire life and wanted a change of scene. My waitlisted state school is located in a rural area compared to NYU's mega urban setting. Also I was able to visit NYU campus 2 years ago when visiting my friend who was NYU undergrad for two weeks and I loved the life there. Plus the Midwest is just boring.
  • Attending school in NYU is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that not everyone gets to live through. Also NYU is one of the Top 5 dental schools in the nation.
  • This is going to sound obnoxious, but I'm an only child and my parents are pretty well off so they're comfortable with paying for my tuition, so cost isn't an issue.
  • I like that NYU has a joint DDS/MBA program (my state school doesn't offer one), so if admitted to the program, I will also have an MBA from one of the best Business schools in the nation, granting me a lot of flexibility and an advantage when it comes to working my way up to be an exec at a corporate dental group.

Congrats!!! Did you receive an email telling you, you had a portal update? Or did you just receive the thank you email?
I received an email saying to check the portal for a new status update!

Congratulations! I am just wondering how do they know you are waitlisted for another school? Are they able to access this information?

in the supplement you have to put the status of all the schools you applied to
I left that section completely blank because I wasn’t happy they asked that question. Not sure what they think about people doing that.

I also left it blank and got accepted.

Congratulations! I am somewhat on the same boat with you. I interviewed Jan 27th and was waitlisted Feb 1st. I indicated that I had other interviews from other schools so I also had suspicion that I would be on the waitlist. I sent them a letter of intent end of Feb and received a response back stating that those who had other interviews usually gets pulled from the waitlist later on in the cycle. I responded back and told them that I was still 100% committed and would make the deposit if accepted. I never got a response back but last Friday I received an email invitation to attend their waitlist information session. 🙃 not sure how else I can show them that I’m committed.

Everyone's situation differs in the finer details. These are just speculations as I don't know too much about your application/interview, but I imagine these may or may not be the reasons why they haven't given you your acceptance yet:
  • Didn't call them (or annoy them) enough <-- I think this is probably it
  • Adcoms felt other applicants had better interviews
  • GPA/DAT, but I doubt it since you were already offered an interview (unless your stats are real bad)
  • Your waitlisted schools were also very attractive options
  • The number of schools you were waitlisted at
I suggest, like most people here, just keep calling them. Keep telling them you're interested, offer to arrange for another letter of recommendation, ask them about how you can be a stronger candidate for NYU specifically if not accepted this cycle, etc.

Im going off of the last point you made. My interviewer knew the number of schools i applied it (which is a lot lol) but then asked me how many River interviewed at and i said 1 school which i was waitlisted at. Does anyone know if applying to a lot of schools can play a role in their decision?

I don't know if it's helpful or not but I applied to about 12 schools, 4 interviews including NYU and 2 waitlisted and 1 rejection. But both my interviewers never asked about it but I did the list of schools where I applied on their portal.

Does anyone know when class starts for incoming D1 students?

Hey everyone,

I am rather new to this and have been having a hard time finding any information regarding NYUCD. Mainly, specifics to how each year is spent. Maybe this only happens in undergrad but I was hoping to find some type of map/journey of classes that each year usually takes.
Is it a semester or quarter system?
And this might sound silly but I have not been able to find any YouTube videos about this school. I have come across videos of 'A day in the life' of other dental students in different schools and just thought this was odd. If anyone has any tips/ information I would greatly appreciate your help.

Received my acceptance today at around noon today. Interviewed 3/5!

They can see you are really committing to their program. Congrats! See you in the summer!

I am curious has anyone accepted been given a scholarship? If so how much? Not trying to be nosy I am just curious if it is possible to get a scholarship and get the cost down to tuition of other schools.

Yes, I'll receive a $15000 scholarship per year (if my gpa stays above 3.5)

Nope I was accepted and don’t think it matters! I had quite a few schools and wasn’t even asked about it.
