Greetings!

On behalf of NYU College of Dentistry, I would like to thank you for your continued interest in our 4-year DDS program.

After a thorough review of your credentials, the Admissions Committee of NYUCD found your application to be strong. But they have not yet given your application a final status due to the high number of competitive applications received this year.

To facilitate the final review of your application, the Admissions Committee has requested that you provide the following updates at your earliest convenience:
-- Grade (student copies are acceptable) and/or DAT updates
-- A brief statement describing your interest in NYUCD

do i really have a shot here or ...???

i don't think they sent this email out last year....

in any case, you have nothing to lose by filling it out. You might even get in.... so just fill it and send it in.

Even if you get wait listed, there were some people who got in a day or two before classes began, and one who got in on the 1st day of orientation and flew down to begin on the second day of orientation.

At least they have some sort of interest in you.

I've heard several other people on here saying they got the same email today, and they haven't had interviews there yet either. Just send it in, it obviously can't hurt!

I got this same email. We both have low stats so I assume they want to see that we are making progress, which is why they are asking for grades/DAT. They are probably also trying to see if you are still interested in their school before they invite you for an interview. If you are not in somewhere I say send what they ask for, you never know what it could lead to...

my own realistic interpretation is this: NYU has red flagged my application because they think my stats are low. They havent touched it for months and seeing how it's been several months since they've received my application they are now pretending that they are actually considering me for an interview saying my application is actually 'strong'. The truth probably is they are just doing this to make their school look nice - they just want me to update my application so they can reject me and say they have actually been looking over my application in the last several months.

way to be negative about your application 😛

Hey, don't underestimate your application. I don't think they would waste on their time to say "NO" in this complicated way. They might have kept ignoring you till the eternity if your application was not competitive.

I have a question. IF (BIG IF HERE) I write, send this letter of interest and get accepted to NYU, should I drop other schools and go to NYU?

Thanks,

I doubt they care what you think. They will make so much money even with low stats people hating on them.

Don't read into it too much. Send them what they want and make it good. If NYU accepts you will you attend? That is what they want to know. Tell them they're your first choice, but only if you can commit to them if you're accepted. If they sent that letter out to ten people who are a "tie" they'll give the interview to the applicant they know will attend. Their job isn't done until the class is full. Am I way off here?

i didnt receive such an email and havent been interviewed...I have a gpa of 3.73, DAT scores: 19AA,20Chm,19 Bio, 17 PAT,19RC...does this mean i got rejected🙁 straight away? it maybe because i am a Canadian applicant...

I too got this strange email. Am wondering if its really worth the time to write this "brief statement."

Stats:
undergrad: 3.2
grad: 3.9
AA: 20
TS: 21

what???

A 3.2 isn't tragic and boosted by a 3.9 grad GPA I say unless your grad school was like art your application is fairly competitive.

A 20 on the DAT and 21 TS is nothing to bury your head in the sand about. I'd say you have a shot

if you want to go to nyu then yes. if you have no interest then why bother. simple as that

so if you didn't receive this email does it mean that they're not even considering you for an interview? my stats are fairly low and i haven't heard anything from nyu 🙁

I received this e-mail as well. I am guessing it was sent to anyone that hasn't interviewed yet that the school is interested in doing so. I definitely don't think that this e-mail is meant to "flag" you for low stats, so don't worry!

They want to see who still has an interest in NYU so they don't waste their time giving interviews to people who have no intention of attending nYU at this point in the cycle. I would say if you do not answer the email, you will be rejected as they think you have committed somewhere else.
