Hmmm, fuel credit for enrolling in high school and college concurrently? Sounds awesome! 😉

You're sassy for an old guy.

Well, the spirit of a 24 yr old, but the sass and wit of a 28 yr old.
😀

I think it would be cool to be your classmate next year. We can both be slytherins at NSU.

Who he eventually dumps. New season on 9/24!

I know! I cant wait!! I won't be able to watch it until the 28th though. Next week is brutal. Two exams, a paper, and a conference poster presentation.

19? Are you pulling my leg here? How did you finish all the pre-reqs in time?

I was just messing. Im 22

But I do know a 19yo applying this cycle. I feel bad for the kid though, high school musta been rough, and he didn't have any fun in college either.

I feel bad for everyone who didn't have fun in college. I had a ton of fun in college, I'm starting med school 3 years late because of it, but college was very very awesome.

Complete everywhere except my #1 choice. They don't update you until they reject or invite for interview 🙁

My professor didn't show up for research this morning, so what am I doing...sitting in the computer lab on SDN and obsessively checking my email.....

That happens to me every morning. I'm usually the first one and the lab is always locked. I've asked them to give me a key but apparently undergrads aren't allowed keys to labs... So stupid considering I spend more time in lab than all the grad students.

Saint louis university

Nah, I applied for fun. I completely expect a silent rejection from them.

They have a killer research program. An interview from them would be beastly.

I'd probably pee myself if I got an interview invite. 👍

I check the school specific thread once in a while and it's just full of 3.9/39 people. Crazy.

I don't think I would even comprehend what's going on if I get an interview from UTSW/Baylor.

also, I just noticed you're at 10k+. That's crazy. Party time! Time to another 10k posts!!! :soexcited:

Has anybody else been to these new kava bars? I went to one tonight for the first time. Overall, not that bad and completely natural. A tad on the expensive side, but it's not like I will be frequenting kava bars.

Kava? As in the drink made from chewing up roots of some plant and then spitting out the juices and then letting it ferment some?
Nope, never heard of it.

I don't get it. I googled it and I'm confused. Why not just drink beer?

I would still prefer a good tasting beer over kava any day, don't get me wrong. But as something just to enjoy and let you relax without the worry of feeling a hangover the next morning, it is appealing. I've always wanted to try it, especially after learning about its basic pharmacology in my master's program. But I was out to dinner tonight and there just happened to be a kava bar on the way back.

It is non-alcoholic and does not mix well with other substances that act on GABA. Double dose of GABA potentiation.

If you google kava bar there's a website that just shows a bunch of people putting weird face paint in and laying on the floor..like that's their advertisement lol

You'll have to put a link up because I'm just getting results of kava bars around here. I hate when people put pictures up like that because it just perpetuates the stigma on recreational things that are not all that harmful. Alcohol is toxic beyond a certain level, but you don't see bars advertising people on the floor as you described.

Yeah, I was just talking about the kava I've seen on nat geo or the discovery channel. Lol

Ahh ok. Could have also been ayahuasca. I would never touch that stuff, though. That stuff has harmine and other alkaloid derivatives of harmine (harmaline), which have been shown in numerous studies to be neurotoxic in high levels. They use harmaline-induced neurodegeneration as an animal model for various neurodegenerative diseases. On top of that, ayahuasca is often mixed with DMT-containing plants. So... no thanks.

I guess some people want to develop their social prowess in their 30s 😛

Should I understand what any of that means? I'm so screwed when I start school next year!

It's ok. I tend to get carried away when it comes to how drugs work. It all stems from graduate school and research that I did. Sorry if that made no sense lol.

Well I wouldn't say it made NO sense, but I didn't know if I should have heard of any of those drugs...lol

I guess you can always Google them... Then you'll have an idea of what they are. I can't wait for pharmacology next year. 😀

pharm = my biggest fear.

pharm = my biggest fear.

Pharm is really just hard because of the really detailed information and names. It took SO LONG just to learn one class and then there's another class and another subclass... and none of them have names you can get straight until you study them for hours. Though, when you're studying, you sound like a genius. It was definitely the hardest med school class out of the ones I took.

I wouldn't say none of them have names you can get straight. But I think I understand your point... there are a ton of drugs, and it requires a fair amount of time to get them down. I was just going to say that many have the same endings which makes it pretty obvious what they do.... neoSTIGMINE, physoSTIGMINE, etc....

Haha maybe I was being a little melodramatic... It was difficult though. The hard part was memorizing the pharmicokinetics, but the names just added to the confusion.

Oh, then yes... the PK of drugs is definitely the most difficult aspect of pharmacology. I'm glad I had my master's program (three pharm courses) before medical school. Bring on the pharm!

Haha me too! Hopefully it means that I'll be in a good position from day 1!
