Since scores are starting to come out, it's probably time to get one of these rolling to help future test takers. Threads like this in the past have been a huge help for me in choosing what to study, so I figured it's time to repay some dues.

Just copy and paste the above, and fill in the blanks!

Hey

Congratulations to all of you with such great scores!!!!😀. All I can say is WOWWWWW!!

What version of dental decks did you guys all use? Thanks

Very good scores guys, congrats. Keep them coming 🙂.

hi everyone
my score

anatomic sciences: 95
micro/patho:92
biochem/physio:97
dental/anat:95

overall:95
study hrs: total of six months..8 hrs avg..in the days approaching test 11-12 hrs avg.
study material: dental decks 4 times, kaplan notes 4 times, released papers 2 times.

dos: focus ..focus..focus..........revise..revise...revise

donts: never get nervous..never compromise with sleep and meals..never follow anyone blindly...

hope this helps

and great guys..congratulations to all..booming scores..already raised the bars ppl..gud luck every one

anatomic sciences: 97
biochem/physio: 97
micro/patho:98
dental/anat:97

overall:97
study hrs: started decks in april, studied whenever possible after class, 12-15 hrs/day in the 2 weeks prior to exam

study material: went thru decks once taking notes by hand on anything didnt know already, went thru decks again to make sure didnt miss anything, typed up notes and added any notes from usmle first aid. took all old exams section by section taking notes on any questions got wrong or was unsure of. studied all notes 2-3 times, including notes from old exams. kaplan and brs books ok for reference only. wikipedia is an excellent quick reference, as is emedicine.

dos: see above. stay focused. take all old exams. get some exercise. eat. breathe. sleep. plan how you are going to attack this beast and stay on schedule. consider taking dental anatomy before micro/path because once you get to dental anatomy it is very difficult to read/think/visualize which cusps are moving where. give yourself a reward after you take the exam and another one if you meet/exceed your goals.

donts: dont read kaplan and brs books. too much info to process effectively. dont freak out the night before and only get 45 minutes of sleep like i did. dont beat yourself up if you feel like crap after the exam. i thought i failed micro/path. dont dwell on questions about info you've never heard of before or think you got wrong b/c after the exam there's nothing you can do about it. learn from it and move on.

you can never prepare enough for this exam, just try to plan your studying so you can A) get through all the material you want to get through in time, and B)so you actually take the exam as you reach the peak of your preparation. too much studying can cause you to burn out and make stupid mistakes on the exam. good luck and keep your head up. thanks for all the good advice from the many people who contribute to this site.

Congrats man! I forget what specialties you were looking into, but I'm sure you won't have too much of a problem now. Way to keep up that Maryland tradition (or change it at least😎 )! Let me know if you wanna cut people... Man I love this stuff!

FROM WHAT I CAN FIGURE OUT, A LOT OF PEOPLE IN SCHOOL ARE POSTING IN THIS THREAD.
This makes it hard to figure out and compare with the scores of other international students.

Could everybody please indicate in their post if they are international students / U.S School students ?????

THANKS IN ADVANCE
DOCAPD

a foreign-trained dentist who is seeking acceptance into a US dental school which is required if they want to practice in the states.

what is an 'international student'?

An international student is one who comes from a country other than US and is already a dental graduate in his own country and needs to take the two years advanced dentist program here in order to have a licence to practice in this country. So they need to take both the parts of NBDE and go to the dental school for two years.......hhhmmmmm.....if accepted to one of course.

And to make my post clear I am an international student too..and am not attending any dental school right now. But I find myself with the lowest score in the 90s slot. 95 is mine...hey guys does that make any difference or they just look at the slot. please give comments on my stats so that I know where I am NBDE 1 : 95, TOEFL iBT: 104, GPA : 3.86, MHA GPA : 3.9, 1 yr work experiece in India, 3 months work experience in US, some work experiences in the school campus as graduate assistant in US as well..any response will be appreciated

Hey guys congrats on all ur superb scores!!

Just wanted to know , what were your scores coming to in ur practice tests ?? Am taking part 1 myself in 2 weeks time, and in the process of revision. Have only assessed myself on Mirco/Path section yet and my average raw score is around 85.....

Wud appreciate a feedback on ur practice scores in all sections. This wud really help me gauge where I stand in my prep....

Thanks for any help in advance! and congrats once again! 🙂

I took every single old test and kept track of individual test scores and overall test scores (according to the '98 conversion chart). Naturally, my scores were lower at the beginning. On the last 6 released tests, though, my overall average was about the same as what I got on the real thing.

The individual sections varied significantly, however - for example, anatomy was almost always my highest score on the practice tests, but on the real thing it was my lowest. My dental anatomy score was always the lowest score on old tests, but it was highest on the real thing. The '98 test had an easier dental anatomy test than the others, so I think that might skew the scores a bit.

Thanx Typo for your reply! Checked your previous posts, wow 97 is absolutely great!!! congrats !
So does that mean u were getting around 83-84 raw score in your practice tests ?? In that case.....i'll have to aim for the same to hit the same mark !

Wish you all the best for your next step....:luck:

Many thanks!

Unfortunately, I didnt score myself on past papers. I just used them as a guide to accumulate as much knowledge as I could in a short time span. I did about 3 old papers (98,96, and I think 89). I think I was hitting about 65-70% on average (nothing hellraising, but good enough). Well, I hope this helps.

Just wondering if you guys had any time left after finishing. Also, is it now comprehensive or still broken down into separate sections? Thanks.

wow u sure landed with excellent grades !! 😎

i'm way too nervous about myself ....

Thanks for replying !!

You want comments? How about the fact that your post has nothing to do with the NBDE thread. I think your chances are terrible. I am just kidding, your scores look really good. You should really make your own thread tho and let this one be the Official 2006 NBDE Part I scores thread instead of the "Hi I am from ubezkistan and I have a 4.5 gpa, 120 on part I NBDE, and I am super good looking, what are my chances of getting into harvard?" thread. 😉

hi
as ive collected from previous posts by some on this thread i gather some people advise nottttttttt to do KAPLAN.why is it so. and some say it is a must fr a fair score i jus wud like 2 know is nurturing kaplan is necessary or not? if yes what topics shud b covered etc. pl any advise wud b very helpful thanx bye.

I just took the test yesterday and I felt like I flunked the test. I had like around 30 questions I wasn't sure of for all the science sections. All you folks that got such high scores, did you feel like this when you came out or you knew you were gonna get that 95? During practice I thought I knew everything, but the actually test was pretty insane. No repeat questions and 1/3 of the whole test was soo random that I could've studied for another ten years and maybe get a few questions right. Please share your experience. Also how long does it take for the computer test scores to come out?

hi JVL ,
don't feel bad we are all in the same boat .
i too felt the same when i came out of the exam
i also got some weirdest questions in the exam.
i will let u know when i get the scores....
lets hope for the best
all the best for ur results

Thanks snigdha007. I'll share my scores too after it comes out. I know the exam is suppose to be hard, but I felt the one we took was way harder than any I've seen. Good luck to you.

you mean 30 questions for each section or all? even you have 30 questions unsure for each section, you are still good based on the 98 chart. I am sure you will get 90+...let me know your score. Don't worry, you are just fine.

Hi,

Many congragulation of getting through the exam with brilliant score. You sounds very helpful so I wonder if you could help and guide me through please. I am totally new to NBE and want to give exam next year probably in March. I wonder if you could tell me about Decks ( Its sounds silly but What is Deck??) ,,and where to get all the past papers and reading material.

I am presently working in UK, and want to give US exams. I would appreciate if I be able to contact through email? My email is [email protected].

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.
drfkdent.

Microbiology/Pathology: 9Y
Dental Anatomy: 9X

X>5; Y<5

Overall Average: 94

Cumulative Study Hours: 300
Recommended Studying Materials: Decks, Old exams
Most Difficult Section: Biochem
Study DOs:
- Study the decks and old exam well. I studied the decks twice and did the exams until I got all right. I used an excell sheet to keep track of my progress. For each question I got wrong, I changed its color. If I got it wrong again the following time, I changed it to another color. This made it really easy when I needed to review.
- Understand instead of just memorizing answers
- Look it up if it doesn't make sense to you. Wiki and answers.com are great resources. I also used my class notes if things didn't make sense.
Study DON'Ts:
- Don't ignore my dos : )
- Don't forget that the exam is not everything. Allocate sometime to relax and enjoy life. I did spend some time now and then hanging out for an hour or two. Most of the time, I would ask my family members questions and then explained to them!

I thought:
Biochem was the hardest. I saw about a dozen of questions that I had never encountered the concepts before. There were questions that made you think, some were just random facts.
Micro/Patho was the second hardest, but the questions were either from the decks or old exams.
Anatomy was OK. No surprises. I had the most repeats on this one. So do old exams well.
Dental Anatomy was my best. I did not have many repeats but the knowledge I earned from the decks and doing old exams helped me get through well. I thought it was hard (nothing like the old exams), but do-able. Most questions required some thinking. A few are random facts which are either from the decks or old exams. My advice is to spend sometime learning the typodont. Whenever I took a break, I looked at them. Before going in, I had the all the teeth and occlusion imprinted (almost) in my head.

You have a lot of time to go through the questions. First half (Anatomy and Bio) for 3.5 hours; second half (Micro/Patho and DA) for 3.5 hours. You have an optional 1 hour break. I would suggest you take the time to read the questions carefully.
I have always been an average student since my undergrad, but I did get really high scores on DAT. My point is that if you put in your effort, you will do great.
I can't close this post without thanking the following people: Typo, Ruchig, rythm, JakeD, docapd, rajjos77 and many others. Some I have never interacted but your posts really helped. Before I started preparing, I was very lost on how to prepare for it. It was these people that helped me achieve this score.
Good luck everyone who's preparing for the exam.
PS: I'm a current US dental student.

Congratualtions wireless_doc!! And thanks for sharing your study methods as well.....not many US dental students offer this kind of advice on SDN!! 👍
