I have not heard anything either. In December they sent an email saying that we should expect to hear from them by Jan. 25th, but there was just dead silence. I assume that means rejection, but they implied that they would tell you one way or the other (interview or rejection) by that date.

Any recommendations?

I'm not sure about Temple, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on one of these forums that Loyola has already sent out some rejections. Not positive though. Most schools don't send rejections until they've filled all of their spots.

UNC-Greensboro will be making decisions on Friday.

Hey everyone, I'm new here, but have been reading this thread for a few days. It doesn't relieve any of my anxiety, but I've definitely already become addicted! 🙂

I interviewed with University of Louisville on Friday (1/25), and I know they are doing more interviews tomorrow (1/28). I was called about this information.

In the beginning of January, UConn emailed me about interviewing 1/30

On Thursday (1/24), I received an email from Ohio University about interviewing 2/15 or 3/7

All of those programs are for clinical phd

Hope this helps and good luck to everyone!!!

Sorry to post two in a row...not very efficient.

But has anyone heard from Drexel University in Philly? I know their interviews are mid-February, so I'd think that they would have contacted people by now.

I actually heard Drexel today by phone ("home" phone which actually went to my "permanent residence" so I missed it initially) and I know someone else heard on Thursday evening. So they're currently getting in touch with people.

Has anyone heard anything from George Mason or University of Rhode Island?

Thanks!

I believe GMU says on their website that they contact by Feb 2nd.

Hi all,
Has anyone heard from these schools yet? If not, does anyone know when the interviews dates are? I'm trying to plan ahead, although I know it's impossible. . . 😳
USC - adult track
UNC - Chapel Hill
UC - Berkeley
SDSU/UCSD (2/25, 2/26)
U of Washington - Seattle
WSU - Pullman
Virginia Consortium (2/15, 2/18?)
(all clinical)
Thanks!

The only thing I know is that SDSU/UCSD hasn't contacted anyone yet as far as I know. My transcripts actually never arrived there the first time [and one of them STILL hasn't arrived the 2nd time] and the lady in charge of organizing the data said she still had a stack of over 200 to get through as of this past Wedneday and assured me she would be nearly through them by this past Friday... so I assume that means they haven't really begun looking at things that much. If you look at last year's thread it looks like they contacted during the last week of January.

Virginia Consortium (2/15, 2/18?)

Thanks!

I contacted their secretary a couple of weeks ago and she said the invites would be going out this week. I also applied there, so good luck to both of us!

I know for a fact that UCSD has not contacted anyone for their clinical program. They are currently overwhelmed with internship applicants and I was told that they tend to contact people later than other schools.

AH, I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one! By the way, has anyone heard from University of Illinois at Chicago?

Good luck to everyone this week. I think the board will be very busy with posts this week.

By the way, has anyone heard from University of Illinois at Chicago?

Yes, someone did because it's listed on the first page:

Univ. of Illinois @ Chicago (Clinical PhD program, e-mail invite from potential mentor. also phone call invite from POI, tentative interview date 3/7)

But there's no way to tell when this was posted.

I'm replying to a bunch of posts from above...

I'm also waiting on UIC. the posting on this thread made me nervous but i still think interviews are going out after speaking with the grad secretary on Friday.

I'm also waiting on Berkeley, the grad sec there said invites should be going out at the end of this week.

And, I havent heard anything from U Washington either.

has anyone heard from Boston U or Northwestern Evanston?

Hey, I haven't officially been rejected or invited to University of North Dakota, but I know their open house/interviews will be on March 14 and 15. It was in an email from a POI of mine.

Well, although I didn't get in.. they were kind enough to send a letter. Obviously someone in their admissions department read Ms. Manners....

So if you haven't heard from UofI... consider it a good sign!

I know some of you are waiting to hear from Drexel because they were still reviewing applications last anyone spoke of them. Just wanted to let everyone know that my friend just got an invite to their interview weekend today. So there's still hope! Though I'm going to assume these are probably the last of the invites.

Has anyone heard anything from Idaho State University -- their deadline was January 1st.

What did the grad secretary say about when UIC will be extending invitations?

UNC's website says they will be interviewing on their Visitor's day on Feb 23. I applied there too and haven't heard anything back, so maybe they haven't sent their invites yet? That's what I'm hoping for at least...

FYI UIC was added on 1/17

WSU - Pullman

I haven't heard from them either. According to last year's thread, they notify in very late Jan/very early Feb so this could be the week!

Good luck everyone this week.

I finally got on the interview database page and was a little disappointed. I think we all need to do our best to post reviews of the interviews we are incessantly talking about on this forum so that we can help out next year's candidates.

I second that! I also ask (beg) those who've been to interviews in past years to fill it out if they haven't done so. I have my first interview next week and haven't a clue what to expect, so I can use all the help I can get. 🙂

Hi. Just wanted to add U of Iowa, Counseling Psych.

Interview Weekend, February 15. Admission decisions by first week of March.

Good luck everyone!

Indiana University of Pennsylvania just sent out invites this morning.

Somehow I was invited, but I applied last year, not this year.

Monday, February 18, 2008 - AM or PM
Friday, February 22, 2008 - PM only as of right now
Monday, February 25, 2008 - AM or PM

I interviewed Friday at U of Louisville. Everyone was SO nice, so that helped a lot.
Mine was an all-day thing (8 am - 4 pm), but I've heard some people say that theirs is only an hour long interview and then you go home. Louisville and UConn invited me down for a casual dinner the night before, to meet the other interviewees and some grad students. I wasn't able to go to the one at Louisville, but will be going to UConn's tomorrow night, so if you want, I can post about that later.
The day of the interview, they gave us breakfast while we listened to an overview presentation. Then we had several rounds of interviews before and after lunch (2 with current grad students, which was more for us to ask them questions, and 2 with professors, including my POI). They gave us lunch and we listened to another presentation, got a tour of the clinic/campus, and finished up interviews.
It was really nerve-wracking, but the interviewers know you're nervous, and (at least in my case) are really nice about it.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

(oh, ps, that was for adult clinical PhD)

Hi all,

Question -- I have an interview at one of my "safety schools." I would definitely go there if I didn't get into any other school, but it is pretty far down on my list. It would cost me nearly $500-600 to fly to the interview -- I DO want to see the campus and meet with the faculty/current students, but I also don't have the funding to go ... I haven't confirmed my attendance to the interview yet, is there a polite way to ask if they will cover travel costs? (And if so, how realistic is it that they would pay the full amount?) I wouldn't mind paying travel costs for schools that I am more interested in (but they are also much cheaper!) and the difficult thing is, the 2 days I would be out for that interview would be completely unpaid -- so I'd also be missing out on ~$200 pay ... making that interview amount to at least $700.

Advice? I need to confirm soon ...

Thanks in advice guys!

I would probably ask if a phone interview is acceptable due to cost. That will give them the opportunity to offer funding if they have any or, if not, it is a possible solution. If they don't bend at all, is that really where you want to be? Just something to consider, I bet they will try to accommodate, but I think a phone interview is more likely than funding.

Thanks, their email invite indicated that phone interviews are acceptable, should I just say, that although I would love to come to the campus, due to lack of travel costs, I would like to do a phone interview instead *and crossing fingers* hope that they offer to fund the interview?

To directly inquire about financial accomodations due to hardship is by no means a breach of etiquette.

Remember that you have risen to the top of a competitive pool of applicants and as such represent a potential asset to said institution.

Good luck.

Thank you, I think I will directly ask about travel reimbursements and then suggest a phone interview if that is not possible. I really don't make that much as an RA and they could look at my paystub for proof if they need it! 😉

Edited: They said they don't do accommodations, so I'm going to do a phone interview.

that's so interesting... because if you look at the admissions stats for SDSU/UCSD - it says 588 avg. verbal/680 average quant. 3.67 avg GPA!

???!!!

(this is one of my favorite schools btw)

Hi,
Well, this was in 2003 for th 04-05 admission year, so it could be based on the year prior (the stats I mean)..who knows, all I know is at the time, it terrified me. It could be a good year in general for people. I heard so many people not getting in the last two years that are doing excellent this year. I have a feeling that some years schools simply have too many students already and the chances become dismal no matter how awesome they are.

I have a good feeling for everyone on this site...we will all do well this year.

A post-doc in my lab attended the JDP and she said admissions is ALWAYS so tough for SDSU/UCSD because there are SO many faculty members and there is literally a lottery for which faculty members get to accept a new student. Sometimes you get lucky and your POI is accepting, and sometimes you don't. This is one school where sometimes, no matter HOW qualified and HOW great of a match you are, you just might get unlucky and not be accepted at all ... it still didn't deter me from applying. She had such great things to say about the program -- I hope I hear some good news soon!

Also, she talked to her mentor about apps and they got a ridiculous amount of apps this year, that's apparently why they are taking so long. She saw him last Friday.

This is interesting - so even if I contacted my POI and he said that he's accepting new students next year - he actually may not be?

That's the way she explained it to me -- she found this out after she was accepted in 2002. She said it was pure luck that her faculty mentor was accepting. In fact, I tried to apply under him as well and he hasn't accepted a student since he accepted her 5 years ago! Your odds of your POI accepting should be better if you contacted them and they confirmed it AND if you were able to select that person on the online application file you submitted to the JDP, but again, I think things happen and people end up not accepting even if they had "a ticket."

Which track are you applying to?

Invitation extended by telephone for choice of 2/15 or 2/18.

Interview consists of (1) a meeting with two members of the admissions committee for 15-20 minutes; (2) a meeting with the Program Director; and (3) a tour of the campus.

Of 255 applications, 36 applicants will be extended interviews.

Of 36 interviewees, 10 will be offered admission.

Best of luck everyone!

Hey! I interviewed at Louisville last Friday too. Perhaps I saw you there. I thought there interview session was relaxed and quite informative. Did you get to spend any time in the city? I missed my flight so I was stuck in various airports on the 24th and didn't get to go to the grad student dinner.

I also got a call from Bowling Green State this morning about an interview. I'm looking forward to their wine and cheese reception.

I just called the Clinical Psych Graduate Office at University of South Dakota and she informed me the committee will be meeting this week and hopefully invitations will be sent out next week. Also, their interview dates will be February 22 and 29.

Has anyone heard from Northwestern (Chicago campus) yet?

I saw that people already got interviews from Temple Univ, so I guess that's out for me🙁 I'm trying to keep calm but this process is so stressful, and to think that it might last a few months...😱

I am going crazy with stress.. has anyone heard from georgia state yet.. I know they make decisions today.. and its one of my top choices!

I talked to the secretary at Georgia State and she told me that decisions were being finalized today and that applicants would be informed no later than Wednesday via phone and email. Hold tight!

Does anyone know what the status is with BU?

I applied to Georgia State as well (although for social, not clinical), and I haven't heard anything.

whoever hears from GSU, please let me know🙂
I know Chapel Hill will send invites this Friday
I already heard from Miami Univeristy on Jan 25th, interview dates are 02/29 or 3/03
oh and University of Maryland was my top choice, BUMMER🙁

has anyone heard from Curry University of VA (clinical)?
or Sufflok University (clinical)
or Boston University (clinical)
or Viginia Commonswealth (counseling)

This week is very critical.. most schools said they send invites late jan/early feb..

Does anyone know when Teachers College is planning on extending invites/potential interview dates?

I received an email invitation for Suffolk University (Clinical) Friday afternoon. Their interviews are 2/29 & 3/1.
The only other school that we have in common, Boston U, I haven't heard from either.

hi, invites are out for the UVA Curry program (I think that's what you meant) and VCU counseling program

Does anyone know when Teachers College is planning on extending invites/potential interview dates?

From an email: "We are still in the process of reviewing applications and will begin sending out invitations for interviews in February. Should you be selected for an interview, please note that interviews will be held on February 21 and 22, from 9AM to 6PM here in

so whats the best way to handle the disappointment? 3 schools are already off my list🙁

VCU invites have been sent already? and curry uni ofVA too?
Bummerrrr

Not an invite, since they don't do invites, but New School for Social Research finally sent me a letter with my password to check for progress, so I can only imagine they've got the process started at the very least. I'd guess to expect no action from them for a couple of weeks.
