I would say reapplying would show committment, so I am reapplying early to my two WL schools...

Has anyone heard anything about the movement (or lack thereof) of VCU and Jefferson's waitlists?

Thus far I have only seen one oos person accepted to VCU off of the WL, and I have not seen anyone accepted to Jefferson since the fifteenth. VCU and Jeff where are you???

I wonder if they just didn't have much movement around the 15th?

I also have not seen anything from anyone from the other school that I am waiting for (the University of South Carolina SOM).

Cornell (today) and NYU (5/13) waitlists came through for me. I am forum-challenged, so if somebody could add me to the list I would be most appreciative. I am speachless right now. My goal was to stay in NYC for personal reasons, and to have the opportunity to do it at my top choice school (Cornell) is an unbelievable honor. Hopefully someone will make good use of the Pitt and NYU spots that are about to open up.

I don't post much, but I've been reading this thread incessantly for quite some time. Applying to medical school has been a dizzying process. I was in the same boat as a bunch of people on this thread; several interviews, high hopes in February, crushing defeat at the hands of the waitlist beast in March, and prolonged uneasiness ever since. I had one of the infamous second interviews at Columbia a few weeks ago, and the silence between then and now only served to increase my anxiety.

I wish everyone else the best of luck in the waitlist process. Let your schools know how you feel!

I know! Thanks! I am so happy for all you guys! I got the call three days ago, and I still can't believe it! I try not to make promises, but it is definitely my plan to go to DMS in the fall. I just loved it there! And to think it was my last interview... I thought I was doomed for sure!

I think the schools showing the most movement are those that don't overfill...

I am with you WSU54; I am also waitlisted at VCU and Jefferson. I don't know anyone else that has been waitlisted at those schools so I do not know how their waitlists move. I do know that as long as I am on med school waitlists, this is going to be a very long summer.

EDIT: Waitlist season as been real nice to SDNers. Most of the people I spent March whining with seem to be getting good news. Perhaps ADCOMS look here for the ones that really want it? We will never know.

does an update consist of me sending news on quitting my current job and working full time at a bakery (where the cake is free and oh-so-delicious)? i only have another two months until i start school again and i didn't want to keep working 12 hr days at my medicine-related job. it's not amazing news, but is that what is classically considered to be an update? and what about when i quit in two weeks and move back home to be with family and do absolutely nothing?

does an update consist of me sending news on quitting my current job and working full time at a bakery (where the cake is free and oh-so-delicious)? i only have another two months until i start school again and i didn't want to keep working 12 hr days at my medicine-related job. it's not amazing news, but is that what is classically considered to be an update? and what about when i quit in two weeks and move back home to be with family and do absolutely nothing?

When I sent my letter of update, I discussed three things:
1. My medical related job and what it has taught me related to medicine, and how it has motivated me further
2. My teaching job and how it relates and gets me excited for medical school
3. My plan for the summer and how they relate to my medical aspirations

Be personal, and show them that you are constantly thinking and growing... Make them believe that you will be a great doctor because of your experiences if nothing else.

Dannyburch and Mayfly - Congratulations!!! I'd be really envious right now if it weren't for DMS. I'm still a little envious, lol.

I think the LOIntent I wrote to Penn definitely made a difference! They do care to know that you'll go to their school, hands down, no questions asked if they let you in (which was how I felt about Penn, and made it quite clear!)

Well, I wrote a letter of interest to Dartmouth after my interview, followed up with a second one and a letter of update after my waitlist letter, then a few days before May 15th, I sent them another quick e-mail telling them how much I liked them, and then on the 15th sent them a super-short e-mail saying that I was more sure than ever that I preferred them to my current school. Got the call the next morning, and the Dean said they had been keeping a close eye on my application.

I also got into GTown after sending a letter of interest.
