I applied early and applied to 12 schools. All in the New York area.

I got 8 interviews and now three waitlists. Its amazing that I got a rejection from NYMC.

My pre med advisor is a peice of work. Seems the letter she wrote was just OK. The college wont let me see it (CUNY).

Im still hoping for admission. Im a little torn about reapplying especially if the same premed advisor writes the same letter for me.

It's all about how much you want it.

I don't have near the academics that you do (I got a 30 and graduated with a 3.73), and I also didn't get in the first time around (two waitlists), and probably am not this time either (six interviews, four waitlists, zero accepts).

BUT, I fully intend on applying again. My scores/academics should be (and, in my opinion, are) good enough to get into a state school (and even my interviewers have said this...both years). I've got a ton of research (3 years laboratory, one pending publication), and my EC material has greatly improved in the last year. It's got a lot to do with luck, too.

I want to be a physician, and it's the only thing I want to do. I absolutely refuse to let various groups of nine to twelve people decide that I'm not good enough to be a physician. I know in my heart that I'm going to be a great physician, and I'm not quitting until I get in. Damn the consequences and the time it takes.

If you don't get in this year, it's NOT the end of the world. I've got a buddy who's in med school right now wishing that he had taken a year off because he's stressed out. Get a job you enjoy, do some doctor shadowing, get involved with the community (the 2008 election offers tons of volunteer opportunities), and give it another go. You've got the academics down, now you've got to have the willpower to fix your application's flaws and get an admission next year.

well said. it takes a strong person to bounce back and keep trying. not getting in does hurt a lot. but if being a doctor is what you really want you will make it happen. :luck:

I called Penn yesterday, they said they aren't accepting people off the waitlist right now and that they expect to better know where they stand next week. Very troublesome.
 
i was bout top withdraw from nyu wiatlist , but before i could they took me. i will not be keeping their spot, hope one of you gets it, im a wash u man.

Thanks for the penn update. I had called on the 16th and all they said was to keep checking the status page. I guess the status page is going to note when they start taking people of the waitlist. Thanks again.

Thanks for all the congrats guys!!! It was definitely the last thing I expected to see in my inbox, especially interviewing in their very last interview group of the year! I had an email this morning from them, with the subject being something to the tune of "Albany medical school status- accept". My jaw hit the floor! Yaya!

They sent me an email .... NYU was awesome when I visited.

Thanks! This is good to know, I was beginning to wonder the same thing if Penn's list was really moving or not. But now I see on the website it says they are analyzing the class and something about waiting until next week for the results. Here's to hoping next week is a good week!

that'd certainly give a more accurate assessment of waitlist movement, but i guess the end result is going to be the same. Different colors for withdrawals, maybe?

Hey Text, I would never suggest that your acceptance didn't count, of course it does! I just meant that, when I first heard you get off the waitlist I thought it would be moving. But then there seems to be this big gap with no one else hearing anything and so I was confused. I know Penn is amazing that's why it's my top choice and for personal reasons I really want to be in Philly next year!
 
I have a question....

For those of you who already held one acceptance as of May 15th and have been accepted off of a wait list since then...how long have you all been averaging in making your decision and letting the school that you do not choose know?

This is an uber-succesful thread. I had no idea it would become such a hit back when it was a two-pager begging for sticky status. Now its passed 2008 rejections and all school threads excpet UCLA and Duke.

Haha, I wasn't offended or anything 😛 I just found it interesting they told somebody that they hadn't started moving the WL yet, even though they have, at least a little. Kind of like when I called Pitt when my decision letter was late, and they told me I was still under review, even though when I got home later, the decision letter was in the mail. Makes me wonder if they just have stock answers so that we'll stop calling them, hah.

Yeah, I withdrew my other acceptance the second I hung up the phone call with Penn. Didn't even wait for the paperwork to come in the next morning, the change in status page was good enough for me! Heh.

Yeah, that and the fact that you never get to speak to anyone besides a secretary when you call. I don't think that most of the people who answer the phones have any clue what the actual committee is doing. Anyways, I'm sure they're swamped with the same type of phone calls so I don't envy them and I really don't envy me and my waiting! uggh

I'm crossing fingers toes and eyes to hear back from USC...but looking back at last years WL action from that school is not comforting! Don't you want me California? 🙄
