Question for people reading:

The person who contacted me re: an interview has suggested that visiting interviewees stay at hotels and did not mention the possibility of staying with current grad students. Is it uncommon or weird to ask for or seek out arrangements with grad students the night before an interview? If it is common, what's the best way to go about doing this?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Has anyone heard anything from the following schools? (Clinical Psych Ph.D.):

Loyola (Chicago)
Marquette
Northwestern (Feinberg)
University of Illinois- Chicago
Rosalind Franklin

Just curious!

Anyone had any contact with UMass-Boston or Boston University? Or have any idea of when they will be sending out invites?

I sent an email to U of Illinois-Chicago asking them when they plan on sending out invites and I never got a response. From what I understand they were late organizing all of the applications. I do not think they have even started extending invites bc many people on here have been waiting on them and I have not heard any news as of yet. best of luck.

It's not uncommon, however, usually the school sets up staying with a current grad student if that is their usual policy. If not, I don't think its really an option.

Gracias!

Good luck to you too. :luck:

Is anyone else super anxious about invites today?! I usually check my e-mail 10000 times a day, but even more so today. There's just so much anticipation for the next two weeks and I almost can't handle it!

phone call from POI for Vanderbilt! they are still extending invites so don't give up hope. (same interview dates as posted on the first page)

I actually heard from University of Illinois Chicago today for what sounded like a phone interview. BUT NOT CLINICAL PROGRAM, I APPLIED TO SOCIAL-PERSONALITY PSYCH.

My POI left a msg and wanted me to call her back.. but she didn't answer when I called her back so now it's phone tag time. She did say that they were done with initial application reviews. but again, this is NOT for clinical!!

I haven't heard anything from Boston school and was wondering the same thing..

UIC - Just called and the department secretary said that POIs are supposed to be contacting people for invites (by phone or email) w/in the next couple weeks (vague). Their interview date is 2/27.

UMass Boston -The admissions person contacted the dept. for me, and she said they will be holding interviews in mid-February. That's all the info they provided.

BU - Just called and the dept. coordinator said their interviews will be in mid-Feb, and they plan on extending all invites by the end of this month. FYI all the people I've spoken to at the psychology dept there have actually been super rude and condescending. I don't know what their problem is, but from reading the SDN interview feedback page, it also sounds like the students there are not happy. So not getting an overall good vibe, which sucks b/c they have awesome POIs there for my interests! Sheesh.

Fordham - Concerned about the mass email invite that people (not me) received yesterday, I decided to contact the department. The secretary was really nice and said that she knows for certain that they are NOT DONE inviting people yet, so there is still hope! Don't know if anyone else applied there, but just thought you would want to know.

That is all for now... I also emailed Loyola & NU (FSM) but I haven't heard back yet. I'll post when I do! 😱

Call from the department admin at Pitt's Clinical Psych program on 1/20, invited for interview weekend on 2/27-28. Pretty psyched. 🙂

I went to BU and the clinical coordinator (PhD) and some other psych people there are really rude (and incredibly unhelpful...). The staff is also really unresponsive

Awesome, thanks!

I'm so tempted to call my schools and find out what's up, but I don't want to be annoying. 😳

I have a question that maybe someone can help me out with. IUP's interview dates range from February 2nd to February 27th. Do you think that those who interview earlier will have a chance of being accepted earlier? Basically, if you request a later interview day will there be less slots for you?

As a current IUP student, I can confirm that acceptance decisions are made at the end after all interviews have been completed. So it doesn't matter when you interview -- everyone gets notified of their acceptance at the same time.

...ALSO, to the general post: is it common to request overnight accommodations with grad students if it isn't mentioned in the email? I'm a little new to this!

Good luck everyone! :luck::luck::luck::luck:🙂

I can only answer this question relative to IUP but perhaps that will be helpful to some people. We sometimes have applicants who request to stay with a grad student. If you are interested just let the department coordinator know and she will check with the grad students and see if anyone has space available. If lots of people are interested there may or may not be spots for everyone -- it depends on who has space available and who is willing to host someone at that particular time.

If anyone has any other questions relative to IUP, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. Good luck everyone!

I also went to BU but was a student in the Counseling Program (Master's) at the School of Education. It was between this program and the M.A. in the Psychology Department.

The Psychology Department faculty and staff were so incredibly rude to me during my visit there that it made the decision extremely simple.

I am happy to hear that their cold nature was not just some unique experience. It's something they should work on, but I guess when you're the most difficult doctoral program to get into (in terms of numbers), I guess a certain arrogance can spread throughout.

I just got the email to. I was hoping it was an interview. Well, at least they sent an update.

I checked Grad Cafe to see if there were any interviews posted. Most of these are repeats but here is what I found...

Yeah I got that too! I had just emailed her last week, so I kinda knew that, but it's always good to reaffirm.

Also BU people -- I'm glad to know that they weren't just being rude to me personally. Btw, I work at Northwestern U, and we're a good school but we try our best not to be rude to anyone. The dept. secretary in the NU FSM clinical psych office was also super nice. Have some tact people!!!!

Just got the DePaul email as well... I'm glad they at least emailed and let us know the exact date invitations will be extended. My panic attack can wait until then...:scared:

I know! I actually really want to go there.. their program seems like a good environment. Ack!!! 😱

I did enjoy the program - it was a masters program and was only one year long. I felt that I got a lot out of it, but I think it was the kind of program where you can only get something out of it if you put in a ton. We weren't really encouraged to do much, and I was 1 of maybe 4 out of 50 who actually published something..

I've also heard some pretty bad things about the clinical psychology PhD program at BU

Yeah, I read the interview feedback for BU as well and it doesn't seem like the most pleasant experience. But then again you have to ask yourself who is most likely to leave feedback, and only a couple people did. A small n 🙂
Still not good to hear that people are rude on the phone. I've only talked to one program coordinator at another school and she was lovely.

Also, does anyone know what the deal is with Yale? The main list says someone got an invite, but it isn't on the thread. Have they sent out all invites? Anyone?

Some people have been asking this question so I just want to clarify:

some people prefer to PM me with their invite info so if you see a school added to the list but can't find anything on the thread, it means that someone PMed me. I only add schools that are posted on the thread or PMed (only actual invites, not expected invite dates, etc). Also, if I get a PM I try to add ALL the info I'm provided. If you want to talk to the person directly you can post on the thread and see if they respond. I cannot give out the names of who PMed me (as I'm sure you can understand).

Thanks guys!!!!!

Hi,

I got an email from my POI today to schedule a phone interview. Very excited! I am sure more invites will start going out soon so don't despair if you haven't heard anything.

Good Luck!

I haven't heard anything from Boston school and was wondering the same thing..

Hey everyone, does anyone know if U Miami (Clinical, Adult Track) has finished extending interview invites? This is my top choice and I am very nervous. If anyone has any info please PM me!! Thanks! 🙂

Has anyone been in contact the psych department at CU Boulder? I would love to know before I call them myself.

Also if you have been extended an invitation from CU Boulder, would you mind PMing me your POI? I would greatly appreciate it!

I emailed the Clinical Dept secretary today and got the following reply:
"No, all the invites have not gone out. I would suspect they'll all be made by the end of January."

Please let us all know if anyone is informed on whether U Miami has extended all invites...Thanks!

Has anyone else been having problems with their website in general? If I click on anything, it says "Not Found."

Just wondering, did anybody who applies to DePaul NOT get that email? I mean...did they SERIOUSLY send that to EVERYONE who applied? That must be a lot of people. If you didn't get it and don't want to post, you can PM me to tell me. I'm just curious if they narrowed it down at all before sending that email.

I've been having trouble with their website as well, many pages are dead links.

I have a couple of questions regarding timing in the application process:

If I turned my applications in just before the deadline, will this be a disadvantage? Have people who turned in applications close to deadlines, say for Dec. 15 and Jan. 1, already received interview invitations?

it's not an issue that i've ever heard of.

I'm not sure whether all invites have been extended, but here is what I do know. This is all about the clinical adult track- I don't know anything about child/health tracks. I interviewed with my POI via phone on Friday. She said they usually take 3-5 students however they were taking a "significantly smaller" class this year due to the economy/endowment situation. Yesterday she found out at a meeting that she wouldn't be able to take a student, therefore bad news for me 🙁

If all the professors were at the same meeting, I would assume that all invites have been extended and they've decided which students will be interviewed already. If professors are meeting individually with the committee, then its possible more invites are on the way. This probably doesn't help one way or another, but I guess if you don't get an invite know that it might be a result of financial problems not your qualifications.

i have been trying to call CUNY to get some idea of their interview dates for the clinical psych. program (PhD). no answer.

i'm traveling from abroad and need to plan early, regardless of whether I actually receive an interview. anyone have any clue as to the dates? thanks in advance.

Can the person who heard from UCLA please PM me your POI? Thanks!

Just to let you guys know, I got more than 1 PM about UCLA saying the same thing: call and email from the department.

Email from Fordham:

Now that your application is complete, the faculty will start carefully evaluating each application beginning December 15th. Following a careful review of the applications, approximately 30 of the applicants will be invited for a half-day on-campus interview on February 25, 26, or 27, 2008. The purpose of the interview is for us to meet prospective students in person in order to determine - for us as well as for them - whether Fordham is the best place for the next phase of their professional training as counseling psychologists.

Because of the large number of applications we receive every year, regrettably we can only invite a small group of applicants for an on-campus interview. All applicants invited for the interview will be notified via email by February 1, 2008, by the program faculty representative not the Admissions Office, and more detailed information about the interviews will be provided in the invitation email message as well.

Regardless of whether you are invited for an on-campus interview, you will receive an official decision about your application in March, 2008.

Thanks again for your interest in our program.
