I am wondering if it would be totally inappropriate to email your POI and ask about your status, i.e. whether you are going to be invited for an interview or not? I have tried calling the psych department but the lady there didn't really seem to be able to help me. What would be a nice way to inquire about your status? I don't want to be pushy but I also kind of need/want to know what's going on.

ANOTHER INVITE!!!!

American University, interview on 2/20. Call from someone (not either of my POIs, though)... honestly, I'm too excited to remember! 😉

I've been wondering this same thing! I would love to know everyone's thoughts about this. Like what happens if your safety school offers you an interview, but your #1 has an interview the same day but hasn't sent invites yet. Is it rude to call your #1 and inquire about your status?

I don't have the luxury of having this problem, but I'm hoping that I will :luck:

This happened to me too. When I called they said they only interview candidates they are unsure of...I feel like PGSP is still a bit of a mystery. They seem to have a lot of students for the number of professors, but then here: http://www.socialpsychology.org/clinrank.htm they are ranked decently, even ahead of some of the more traditional programs I applied to....

Those rankings are basically worthless. People should focus on:

1) General Reputation
2) Their strength in your area(s) of research
3) Internship placement rates
4) Types of jobs graduates hold
5) # of publications by faculty and students (and where they publish)

...also, I also called Fordham and they're extending invites until Friday and LIU-Brooklyn will begin sending out invites about 2 weeks according to the department secretaries.

Fordham is still going on?!? Are we sure this time? I feel like I keep getting mixed messages from them! First I crossed them off, then I put them back on, then I crossed them off, now I'm just totally unsure of them! 😱

Their admission data says that they gave out 30 offers of admission. After offers of admission is it first come, first served?

http://www.stjohns.edu/academics/gr...partments/psychology/programs/phd_cp/data.stj

I'm pretty sure that, because they want 6 general and 6 child they double (plus a little) that offer assuming half of all final offers will decline and go elsewhere. I read this on someone elses post as well, schools in general usually tend to invite to about twice as many individuals as they ultimately hope to accept.

What happens if everyone accepts though? I wonder if they'd have to go back and recant! I just had two adorable nuns come in to the research clinic I work at and I asked them to pray for me about St. John's... hoping they can pull some strings "upstairs" !!

The St. John's full disclosure data says they've accepted exactly 12 students each year, which makes me think they give out acceptances incrementally. Seems unlikely that exactly 12 out of 30 students would accept every year

I don't know about you but when I called Fordam the woman I spoke with didn't seem 100% sure what was going on so either hold your breath a little longer or Email Dr. Rosenfeld but I would do the former because I cursed myself by emailing him... wondering if I was patient I could have had another looksy taken at my file!!!!!!!!!

the woman was nice but yeah she didn't really know much and just said to email him. i held off doing that until last week (thurs) but i haven't heard back from him ... eek!! 😕

Okay so maybe that's a good thing. Well of course it could mean so many things but strictly going by the fact the he Emailed me immediately to break the news quickly perhaps they're still deciding on you?? It could also mean he didn't get the email yet or hasn't had time or a million things. If you think about it though, EVERY professor gets their Email AT LEAST once a day, especially the position he's in now so maybe they're still deciding on you... hope you get in if you like it there, for some reason I am in love with Fordham!!!

Thank you! I got the call just as I was feeling all mopey and pessimistic, so couldn't have been better timing 😀

I was wondering this too. I'm hoping it's okay to go to interviews for schools lower on your list where:

a) You've already said you'd go and/or made travel arrangements.

and/or

b) Are still open to possibly attending the program, if something on Interview Day seems particularly cool or exciting.

Yes, if you think there's any chance you'd accept an offer of admission from the program and you want to go to the interview, you should go. I just don't think it's a good idea to go if you're SURE you wouldn't want to say yes to that program. And if you've already accepted an offer of admission somewhere, you shouldn't go to another school's interview even if you've already bought the plane tickets, etc.

Again, this is all just my opinion.

I'm in the same situation w/ my POI at UIC (emailed her but haven't heard back)... since I haven't been officially rejected there yet, and it appears they may be reviewing my application, I'm at least trying to muster that there may be some last hope, and they're actually looking at my app! At this point, I've basically given up on getting in this year, so I guess it'll be a pleasant surprise if I actually hear from anyone! Fordham wasn't one of my "top" choices, but those have all fallen by the wayside now, so now I'm just hoping to hear from anyone!! 😀

Cara Susanna: American is supposed to be an AWESOME School... dittos on the congrats and wishing luck!!!!!!!!!

I just want to know about Case Western. Here I thought it was all nice and convenient that they had such a late deadline (Jan. 15th) because it gave me so much more time to prepare for it. But it is just absolute torture having to wait for their decisions!! The woman I spoke to said we should expect something this week, someone else posted that this had since changed to 'middle to late feb'... Has no one heard anything from them???? 😳

Thanks again! I met a grad student from there at a conference once and was really impressed with what I heard. I'm very excited 😀 😀

Edit: Oh, I should also add that I received a follow-up email after the phone call.

Actually, it's more than just your opinion, that's also what the ethics guidelines for applicants say. If you know you won't attend a place no matter what, you should withdraw your application in writing ASAP. And it's fine to explore your options, even ones that are "probably not, but maybe!", but then if that becomes a no either after the interview or once you receive an offer/waitlist spot, again you are supposed to let them know as soon as you decide.

I withdrew a couple of apps, and it felt a little weird to do it, after having been so invested in all of them, but I knew.

Yeah that really makes sense, which for some reason is a little less hopeful than my initial thoughts but alright I suppose we'll here in a week or so............

Jeesh, has anyone else other that one person heard from URI? They are killing me over here with this waiting. I am obsessively checking my email every 2 minutes. This has to stop, haha. You would think I'd be happy with a couple of interviews.. but no. I can't relax, do any school work, or even focus on the damn tv until I hear from these people! God, no one told me that the waiting/interview process was MORE stressful than writing PS's, gathering information, and sending those little babies away. I'm sure you all feel the same. But really.. where is URI haha.Anyone with me?

And those of us who have a painful paucity of interviews thank you for it.

I was invited for an interview for Widener University Psyd 2/27, Auburn University Phd 2/28, and Nova PsyD 3/2. I am really interested in Widener, but they don't have much funding (compared to a phd program like Auburn). Plus I knew they had multiple interview dates. When I called Widener to try to reschedule they said they were going to put me back in the pool for 3/11, and that she didn't think I should have a problem but there are no guarantees. Weird! So I might not get an interview at all now?

Auburn said: If you are
unable to attend because of a conflict but remain interested in the
program, let me know that as well. We will work with you to arrange for
an on-campus interview on an alternate date.

When she suggested I go back in the pool I agreed (just now on the phone). Should I call her back and say nevermind, I'll just do it b/c I don't want to not get an interview at all?? I could reschedule Auburn. Let me know what you think!

I just interviewed at Fordham today; they already did one interview day before mine and have one more interview day on Friday, and I was told that their admissions committee will meet next wednesday to decide on acceptances. However Dr. Rosenfeld said something about phone interviews as well, I dont know if thats people they already invited and couldn't come or what, but that's all I know...

Definitely withdraw your app if you are SURE you wouldn't go, but if there is any inkling of doubt, I'd go ahead and interview. You earned it, and who knows, your opinion of programs might change after you interview there. I already have a MUCH higher opinion of one program that I was luke warm about before interviewing there, and a lower opinion of one that used to be high on my list, so you never know. Personally I'd have to be 110% sure before eliminating myself, and probably interview anyway and make a decision to withdraw my app or not after that. For all you know it could be the program of your dreams in disguise...

I just realized they are paying for travel too, wow....

Good luck with that interview... It's a tough (but fun) interview, trust me, I've been through it! PM me if you want some details on what the day looks like.

Mark

I am with you. I'm surprised only one person has heard on here...

weird... maybe the OP meant (or misunderstood) in they would be done PERIOD on Friday, as opposed to done sending out invites on Friday?!? poop. 🙁

OMG!! So I just got a voice mail for an interview at University of Houston! I'm so excited right now. I have yet to call the professor back, but he said interview days are Feb 20th and 21st. 😀😀😀

Same here! I'm also guilty of obsessively checking my email frequently - it really sucks! Good luck to you and the rest of the people who are anxiously waiting for URI!

I spoke with my POI from UNCG this week. I was informed that the faculty would be meeting on Friday and calls to extend interviews would follow on Friday and early next week.

In other news, does anyone have any interview info for clinical phds at
University of South Florida?
University of Maryland- Baltimore County?
University of Texas- Austin?

I haven't seen anything for these school on the message boards. Thanks.

anyone heard from university of alabama at birmingham? they sent out an email a long time ago saying they would extend invites sometime before 2/4 (today)! for interviews in march.

I would personally go to all of them. After the interviews for my Master's program, I wound up changing my first choice after a great interview. Goodluck!

Whoever was asking about UNR, I just got an email from the secretary and she says files are being reviewed and NO INVITES have gone out!

Anyone know if UVA Curry is still extending invitations to interview?

An admissions coordinator at the program told me when I called that they're done extending invites.

thanks for posting this Goodnews -and if i get into a good program, i'll find your username less ironic 😉

Received an email today-- for Clinical Psych PhD at Seattle Pacific.

i got it too 🙂 i think she's a grad secretary or the interview coordinator.

see you in DC! (where I ironically happen to be right now stuck on a layover as i got the message)

howdy everyone!
ok so i just want to get my bearings here a bit...
i just spent the entire day going through this thread (yes, all 34 pages in one sitting) and i'm a bit confused about who has and hasn't heard from SDSU and UF. heres what i gather so far...

SDSU : someone has heard a response for the experimental but not clinical

UF : all interviews have probably gone out

Also, anyone apply to WVU? I saw it in the summary of schools that have invited ppl but didn't see anything about it in the thread. anyone willing to shed some light on this school's interview schedule would be my hero! hahahaha

thanks and good luck to everyone!

the experimental track is a part of the clinical track. take a look on their website to see where your professors of interest are - and you'll see if their part of the experimental track (there are two others - i don't remember what they are though)

I emailed a few of my POI's and they were all VERY nice and gave me a speedy response. In fact, I just got MY FIRST INTERVIEW INVITE (YAYYY!) tonight from my POI at University of Houston and I emailed him last week regarding my status. I think that it is acceptable.

I just received an email tonight from the clinical program coordinator at SPU for an interview on March 2nd! 🙂

Would you mind sharing how you worded the email? I just want to make sure to not appear to be too pushy. If you like I'd be happy about a pm as well.

If anyone has any questions about UIC... the interview process....specific faculty members...the program, etc. Feel free to PM me.
