Hey! Just spoke with a super sweet woman at UFlorida. She said that invites are NOT done going out. They are individual e-mails, and she is sending them out in alphabetical order. She hopes to get the rest out today, but she has to leave early, so they may still be sending them out tomorrow. However, she also said that there was a slight possibility that a few more would not be sent out until the 2nd. So basically, we just have to cross our fingers until Mon.! And I wouldn't bother calling to have her check your status, she doesn't seem to be doing that. If you receive something, please update immediately! And include your last initial so we know where they are in the stack! Good luck! :xf:

thanks so much for the florida info! i hate being at the end of the alphabet and have hated it since always being in the back of the line in kindergarten! ugh! yes earlier alphabet people keep us updated!

also... re: masters programs- i would highly recommend them as a backup plan. i'm coming out of a general psych M.A. right now and i feel extremely well-prepared especially with research experience and letters of rec from professors who REALLY know me. my research interests also developed a lot over my time here and i've been able to make some really good connections. you should definitely be choosy about which program though! think small and research focused with a good reputation.

Buh? Well it appears the guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Ignore that downer of a "friend" and keep your chin up 🙂

he wasn't a friend, just a ***** who has no clue what he's talking about. I mean, I actually thought it was funny that he said that and is probably thinking that i was trying to get him to believe i am really smart or something. LOL.

Just spoke with the Psych department, most invitations have been extended, but NOT all, she said they will be finished sending invites in about a week and a half.

Anyone apply to any Masters programs as backup?

ps my horoscope today says:

"Relax and talk yourself out of seeing only the dark side of things"

I thought we could all take that advice- I know I have been feeling super negative about this whole process lately....

good advice!

i didn't have a backup plan until this week, but i started freaking out last week when i realized the reality that i might not actually get in anywhere, and how common that actually is.

i found a masters program at Northwestern that was really interesting to me, so I called my PhD program at NU to find out if I was even in the running for an interview (before they could render an official rejection). They said no... bums, but I had them transfer my application to the masters program.

Does anyone know about these schools (phd clinical) and their interview timelines?

Teachers College-Columbia
St John's University
Adelphi
Detroit-Mercy

i wonder why dr. rosenfeld emailed those people and told them they were done sending invites? that is so mean! so i guess there is still hope for us there, then? 😳

St. John's said they weren't even going to start sending out invites til early March, if memory serves. Or maybe that's when the interview was. Either way, they're definitely later in the game.

my backup plan had always been to apply to masters programs. so ill be applying to
Loyola MS
American MA
Chestnut Hill MS (they have an optional specialization in trauma studies which looks really interesting)
and possibly Marshall

Yes what I gather is St. Johns will do contacts in mid February, for March interviews. Dr. Rosenfeld told me I'm a no-go for Fordham when I emailed him saying I didn't get any news yet but GOOD LUCK to you guys who are waiting to hear from Fordham it seems like SUCH an excellent program!!!

My friend applied to Fordham last year and didnt get accepted... however, they offered her a spot in their masters program a few months later. So maybe there is hope there!

Has anyone heard from the following programs about interviews?

Columbia TC Counseling
Fordham Couseling
Seton Hall Counseling
Yeshiva Clinical Ph.D. with a Health Emphasis

wait you just emailed dr rosenfeld and asked if you got in. You can do that? Had you emailed him before?

i am also anxiously waiting on florida, my last name stars with G so i don't know if they've passed me and im not getting an invitation or if they havent gotten to G yet...anyone who gets an interview, pleaseee let us know!

anyone heard from Rutgers recently? i'm assuming they're still calling people...

also, anyone received the pre-interview screening call from utah yet?

Haha that's what I thought but I freaked out because I saw on the Official thread that Fordham sent out "Mass invites via Email" so I called the admissions department to see and the nice woman told me "everyone should find out one way or another within a week and if you don't hear email Dr. Rosenfeld". So I waited about 3 days (haha) and emailed him saying that I heard others were hearing but I'm concerned that perhaps I'm not in the system or is it just that I'm rejected? He wrote back within 5 minutes saying:

"Unfortunately you did not make our interview list. It was a very competitive year, with a record number of applications, and many qualified applicants did not receive interview invitations. Sorry for the disappointing news, and good luck with your applications elsewhere."

THan I kept waiting for him to email me back and say oops actually you did make it... wishful thinking!!

i just emailed my POI at columbia tc (clinical) a little while ago, and he wrote back just now saying "Re: Applying to Clinical Psychology PhD[FONT=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial]Hi, we have not begun to screen applications yet but plan on doing so in the next two weeks. Suspect that we’ll let applicants know by mid-February." so that is good anyway. late to have not looked at the apps yet, but go figure!

AmandaL - when you posted a few days ago that you had emailed Dr. Rosenfeld at Fordham, i thought you meant that he said they were done handing out invites (in general). was his response just specific to you personally then?
.

no calls from Utah as far as I know. Anyone heard from Auburn? UNR? Anyone freaking out?

You know I thought that his email was general and specific because other people had said Fordham wasn't sending out more but now I hope I was wrong and I didn't cause trouble and lack of hope un-necessarily!!! Let's assume it was just for me at this time and SORRY SORRY SORRY if I mis-informed !!! Clearly if someone had heard that Fordham is not done yet sending out than one has to assume that is the case.

Hoping better news on you guys....

I got an email from professor at Adelphi late last week that said "I look forward to going over your application." I think it's fair to assume this means they either didn't start reviewing them or aren't finished.

Oops... well I decided to email him just now! I had already crossed them off my list until last night, so I guess it'll be more of a confirmation than a rejection if he says no! 😳

I believe they you are rejected from the PhD program you are put in the running for the masters... So it is kind of a waste of money to apply to both. But you might want to call. I only applied to the PhD under the advice that they will transfer my app. to the masters if I am rejected.

Does anyone know if Feinberg and Berkeley are still sending invitations?

I haven't heard anything from Rutgers, although of course that could mean any of several things. I would call the department, but I'm not even entirely sure who to call (and I hate calling departments). Why would a school not put this information on their web site?

Slowly going insane...

Does anyone know if Feinberg and Berkeley are still sending invitations?

When I talked to the clinical science program assistant at Berkeley yesterday, it sounded like they planned to invite the 15 definites by the end of the evening, and were still trying to decide whether to invite 2 more.

The program assistant at Feinberg began extending interviews on Tuesday, and said she expected to be finished by the middle of next week. When they are done extending invites, they will post a note to those not invited on the online application.

I called Phone: 732-445-2576 -

they told me that they had not yet given out all invites

Well, how's this for frustration: I was telling someone about how competitive this process is and how schools will only take in a class of anywhere from 3-8 (average). I think pretty much all of my schools only traditionally take about 6. Well, this person looked at me and said I was probably mistaken and that it is not that hard to get in to grad school . "A class of 6 is not even a class now, is it?" - he said. 😕

Ouch! Yeah, that is frustrating.

My back-up plan is to work as an RA for two years or so and get more experience in my actual specific area of interest.

Just got an invite to CUNY Grad school (clinical) so they're still coming!

I highly recommend it. In fact, I got my current job 2 years ago by emailing people I'd emailed during the application process to see if they needed an RA. That's a good way to find a job in your area of research interest.

Just called Missouri- St. Louis...they are sending out interview offers TODAY...and I got one...YAY! (clinical)
Interview is 2/27

Yes, I just emailed them as well, and this was their reply. Hopefully it means I'm not out of consideration yet!

Hello MPLSGIRL,

Not all final decisions have been made yet. I will email should you
not be asked to interview with us.

Best to you.

Has anyone contacted a POI directly to ask for an update on interview invitations? I emailed the Graduate Coordinator to see if all invites had already gone out, and she said that POIs contact their interviewees and arrange interviews individually. So, if I want an update, I would have to email my POI directly and ask where s/he is in the reviewing and interview process, which seems much more pushy than asking for a general update from the department...thoughts? Anyone else in a similar situation?

i called the psych dept in rutgers and they said people should be contacted for interviews by the end of the week

scary, its already thursday

Is calling really okay? I'm super tempted to call Montana for a general idea of dates.

I am pretty close to the end of the alphabet and just got my UF invite by email.

Does anyone know what day is the Teachers College interview?

Do these jobs actually pay you? I have heard that RA jobs that actually pay a living are extremely hard to get, because why would people pay you to do something when there are so many people who will do it for free??

I work as an RA, have for the past 2 years.....salary sucks, but I get by....

is it possible that its taking so long to send out invites because we all keep interrupting the program assistants with calls and emails to see if they have sent out invites?

:laugh:v🙄

saribou13 : I have an awesome job as an RA in Rockland County NY- geriatric psychiatry. normal salary excellent benifits good clinical AND research experience. It is a pre-grad students dream job. If you do decide to go RA and are in NY (i know you're looking at Fordham) let me know I would try to pull s/t for you

I would resist the temptation to call/email the POI. Unfortunately this is not the only thing that is on their plates. Keep in mind that everything you say in any context (including email) is part of the application/interview process. What you don't want is to seem like you are impulsive or impatient during times of stress - because grad school is just one prolonged period of stress! Contacting the program assistant to find out status or interview dates is different. Having that said, I'm quite surprised how liberally folks on this board call programs again and again. If you're invited - they will let you know. Just know that as you progress in the field, it's tolerated less and less. Unfortunately you will have to cope with your anxiety in other ways...as I am right now waiting on internship match day and so perusing your thread 🙂

I have emailed 3 of my 10 POI's about a week after I heard that they already started sending invites. They COMPLETELY understand our anxiousness and I have recieved very nice (and speedy) responses to my emails. One of them even gave me an idea of the number of applicants recieved and the number he could invite. He also, very nicely said I was not going to be recieving an interview but that he remembers my application well and was impressed by all of my research experience. He concluded with encouraging my application again next year and stated he would look for it.

So I think that emailing the POI's is a good thing to do if you cannot get an answer from the dept.

Well, I meant calling the dept, not the POI. I wouldn't dare contact the POI. 😀

But, okay, guess I will have to fight the urge!
