😱 rejections are pouring in. i sense a rejection from mt sinai 😱

rej Univ of Iowa

Also got a rejection from University of Iowa. The letter was not even well written - I had to look at the sender's email address to determine which program it came from. Doesn't the $26 application fee deserve at least a decently written letter?!

Rejection from UIowa and Henry Ford today.
So far, 8 rejects, 2 IVs

I am an IMG on J1 visa and have 9 interviews. I think 60-70% invitations have been sent out but still more to come. Good luck!

you probably have an amazing application that will make even an AMG look like a medical student compared to you! am i right? 👍

Initially i was getting 1 rej per week, now its 2 per day !! 😱

rejs of the day: HF and uiowa

IV from Georgetown and NY Hospital Queens/Cornell. Rejection from Cleveland Clinic - Florida.

I guess that's the only good thing needed in any application. I have a decent profile but did not get any ivs yet probably coz I m on visa. You got in just on time (july) dude, 😉 congrats.
I am really curious to know if any IMG on visa got any interviews yet????

IMGs requiring a visa have very limited options or will have none at all in the near future because of the NIH funding restrictions that prevent programs from funding non-US citizens/permanent residents.

It does not matter how strong your app is, unless you have a Nobel, most programs will reject the app. There are only a very few programs left, mostly in the East Coast, that still consider IMGs with visa but even they would not be willing to sponsor when they are receiving great apps from citizens/permanent residents.

If you don't get any interviews, work for coupla years to get a green card and then apply. It will help if you get your hands dirty in a lab until you get permanent residency.

Congrats. Do you mind sharing your credentials ?
AMG, graduated from top 20-ish med school, currently at large university based IM program, research experience; and USMLE 1,2, and 3 scores all > 90 percentile.

Thank You DocIM. Your point is well taken. I kinda agree with you esp after this season's experience.
Two rejections today:Iowa and Henry Ford

University of Kentucky rejection makes rejections in double figure.....

Hey, Anyone hear back from any of the Chicago schools yet? 🙂

Got an email from Drexel about update on IV dates.. I guess generic email for everyone.

can anyone comment on the Boston Medical Center vs NYU GI programs?

- last year I applied and didnt match, this year I applied with a much much more better application. Ironically, last year I got more interviews!

- my conclusion: there are multiple potential reasons:
1- more AMGs.
2- more chief residents.
3- more applicants in general.
4- a hidden factor that I discovered, there is a huge number of applicants from top 10-15 programs applying this year. For example: a friend of mine who is from a big univ program said that at his own program they invited 23 applicants, 8 from mayo clinic, 6 from CC and 4 from upenn!

- guys, lets also start talking about plan B! I think it will be a good idea to share ideas.

My interviews list -

Oschner clinic
Baylor Houston
Indiana University
Utah
Mayo clinic Rochester
UNM
Cornell/MSKCC
Carilion clinic
University of Miami
OHSU

I do have double digit rejections too thus far.

IMG applicant and need visa. scores > 250 in step 1 and step 2, 6 publications, 18 posters and abstracts, strong letters, university based IM residency, fresh applicant.

I agree that for all visa requiring candidates it is an uphill battle. I don't think we will ever be able to figure out what programs are looking for in candidates when they send out invites!

Sounds very accurate. My mayo IV date group are mostly md phds, gazillion publications, plus or minus chief year. There are a lot of people reapplyng from last year and year prior for 2014 spots with extra year of research in between. For example one girl I know graduated last year from my prog. Volunteered for one year research with big name and has landed some great IVs at top 20 GI programs. LOL and she hates research.🙄

I agree with you, there is probably a hidden factor that we don't know of. This factor is probably affecting more IMGs than AMGs as you can see (I only heard 1 or 2 IMGs who got inteerviews vs. a huge chunk that got numerous rejections). The question is what would be plan B? I'm already on my plan as I took a year off just to do reearch, so i guess i need a plan C now!

Hi, what does it mean when you see applicants getting rejection and interviews but haven't heard anything from the program? Is it silent rejection or keep fingers crossed?

I actually have the same question...I haven't heard from U Iowa, but saw people getting rejections already....I have no interviews so far and 10 rejections only....I know GI is competitive..but they should also increase total number of spots. For example, Cards have more than double number of total positions compare to GI. No idea what direction this GI is going to...if this continues, in near future IMGs will be banned from applying to GI! Basically..it all comes down to politics I think.

I have the same problem as above. Applied to 50 + programs and heard back from only 14 (most were rejections) Is there still hope from those that offered IV but I still haven't heard from?

Plus: anyone needing a visa hear back from any boston, NY, chicago or DC programs?

IV University at Buffalo!
Rej Univ of Tulane; Beth Israel Deaconess; Univ of Kentucky!!

Seems like programs are on long weekend mood already.. Quiet 48 hours...😴
