Getting daily subscriptions to this thread while still waiting for either an interview or rejection is starting to give me anxiety! LOL. Then again, like others have said, it may be still way too early in the game to expect either since I'm neither an "internal or superstar" candidate. And 1/3rd of my programs still haven't even retrieved my application according to ADTS. The waiting game and hoping-that-Gmail-notification-means-something-other-than-spam continues...

OSU interview! I think this is second round of invites, I saw few people here got invited earlier last week.
Don't give up...

Increased from 42 to 48 apps, hoping this is enough to get a couple IVs:
Score - 0 IV: 0 Rej

Still waiting, may August bring the IV avalanche....must admit, hated this process since first going through it for residency.....costly, nail biting...at least you guys know what I'm going through and vice versa.

Good luck to all this coming week, will keep you guys posted.

Hello everyone... I was following forum for last few days...! I applied for PCCM 2014 cycle.... 102 programs...! 1 rejection so far....washigton university,st. louise.....🙁

Profile: 4+ years of IMG experience of PCCM ( residency in chest medicine+ critical care) , no gap in medical education.... Community program In IM --chief resident there at present, 11 poster presentation ( 5 chest + 4 Gi + 3 endocrine), 3 oral presentation ( 2 chest + 1 endocrine) and involved in 4 research project...!!

but still NOT A single offer...>!!!!! I m still thinking it is TOO early in season or m I late for season ?????

It is obviously so much frustrating...!! I was thinking to apply few more programs..! please guide me..!!

Man, you are well qualified for PCCM fellowship and with 102apps your odds are even better. If you haven't received anything yet then I hazard a guess it is probably AMG/citizen screening, the IMG usually gets IV where slots are available...have no fear, something will turn up, I am willing to bet you end up with > 12 IV at least and will have to turn down a couple. Applying to more programs may not be worth it unless it allays your fears....I would apply to as many as money permits if you have no preference of where you wanna do fellowship.

What is the percentage of US grad/GC VS IMG in this forum? I heard that PCCM is not a competitive field but obviously the PCCM forum has more view/post since last year compare to GI/Card/Hemeonc.

Thanks meddodreddo, but citizen is also not an issue...as I m US citizen and don't require visa...!!!! Let see how it goes for next week.!!!! I applied to 102 program as I don't want to leave any single chance to get in PCCM fellowship..!! That't my dream.!!! Anyways thanks for your motivating words..!!!!

If I remember from the last batch of statistics. It's about 50/50 AMGs to I/FMGs. So I'd assume the forum is about the same - might have a bit more FMGs in here. I dunno.

Pulm/Crit is getting more popular. GI is competitive as ever. H/O is overtaking cards in competitiveness and cards is kind of losing steam as the reality that you can't make the same money, living in the nicest locations anymore is starting to dawn on people. Go check out the job prospect thread in cards. Anyway, doing pulm crit starting pay is around 300 to 350 for something like 15 "shifts" per month at some baseline wRVU (shift is a day or a night in the unit or a day in the clinic) with wRVU bonuses above and beyond that putting a lot of guys into the 400 to 500 territory reasonably easy - though you're probably working for most of it. Doubtful it's "easy" money. But, still when people hear you can clear that kind of cheddar without killing yourself, suddenly . . . a specialty becomes "popular" and more competitive.

You will take a pay cut to try and live in the most "desireable" locations.

Thanks for the info, jdh71!
Good luck to all as we head into another week of promising interview offers!

I am a IMG doing med-peds at a university hospital in midwest. Are med-peds graduates at a disadvantage as compared to categorical to IM when applying to PCCM?Do USMLE scores matter in fellowship?

I don't think med/peds matters.

USMLE scores aren't going to matter much at most places

What really matters are your letters and where you come from.

IMG, USMLE in the 80s, limited research. mostly case reports. nothing published. Great LORs. Program Director called all my programs personally. Match PCCM this year (2013) to my first choice.. university program.

Most of my interview invites came in September( about 10 programs, 6 university, 4 community). I felt my LOR and my PD making calls made the difference. I had a very good interview and felt I impressed the program with my knowledge and got along great with the interviewers. I matched and felt lucky I did.

Patiently waiting. Any news today anyone? Hopefully this week shows some activity in my inbox -- right now only activity I see is when I panic and apply to that "one more program".. and ERAS confirms that they have my money in their pocket..!!

Yet another day of waiting with no response from programs positive or negative. So annoying...

Great example. I think your program director(s) in your own program and the pulm faculty vouching for you where you go also makes a big difference.

I take it you have 20 interview invites?

Just to break up the awkward silence... Here's a friendly reminder that NRMP registration for the Specialty Matching Service (SMS) opens today. I believe the registration fee is $60.

Here's the direct URL for NRMP SMS:
http://www.nrmp.org/fellow/index.html

And the R3 system URL (click on right column, under MSMP (Medical Specialties)):
http://www.nrmp.org/splashpage.html

Not gonna lie, that's a whole lot of acronyms.

wats that ? speciality matching service?
Lost all hopes,, the list of invites here is increasing , while I have not heard a single word from anyone
🙁

You and I both. Seriously considering starting a search for a Hospitalist position like other PGY3s

Like others have said, it still may be way too early to give up. Keep in mind that the interview list here may be skewed with a select pool of applicants on SDN. Also, besides Harbor-UCLA, it seems like the West Coast programs have not made any announcements yet either.

Loma Linda univ sent out a few invs but aside from them I think you're right.

I think it's way way way to early to worry. Look at last yrs thread, the heaviest time was late August and early September. You guys are gonna be aight.

Thank you
The reassurance is incredibly helpful. Its so easy to get discouraged, especially when its your dream on the line.

Im hoping we all match, and do so at institutions that we all want. I know that might not be possible, but I still hope it happens.

Awesome. Another strings of acronyms that wants money from me. I'm not payin till I get an interview!

just want to let u know. my classmate is a first year fellow at U.of Cincinnati. They are just reviewing the applications and will be sending ivs in 2 nd week of August.

UNC chapel hill still reviewing the applications.IVS from 2 nd week of August. I called them yesterday and my mentor is from there

UAB -still reviewing . sent some IVS but PD is out and have stopped fro now . will start in a week-called the program

I spoke to 3 of my classmaates who matched last year. All IVS from 2 nd week of August.

Iam from a university program and my program has not even sent any IVS to any of us. As per my Program coordinator said most programs will review and send IVS from 2nd week of August

so its too early. My program chairman is from U-Cincinnati previously and even he said its too early as I went to ask him upload his letter ASAP as I was panicking.

I hope this helps

ok .. I called U of Arizona program today. PC said they have not sent out an invitation yet. However, I saw that U of Arizona is on the list above that has already sent out the invitation. now confusing.

Verrrrrrry interesting indeed. I wonder what Super Turrican has to say about that...

UC has at least sent out a few. Without a doubt.

Well the info you got is in direct conflict with the one I got. Got not no more to say about that.

Next week it seems will be the hurricane IV, will lay low this week and trouble my intern to pass the time! lol!

probably 1/3 of the places you apply won't even bother to say, "thank you for applying, but we will not be inviting you"

anyway, back when applications went out in December and match was in June, most people didn't hear much until end of January, beginning of February, which is consistent with the people who matched last year telling you things really start rolling out mid August to beginning fo September.

I remember the wait and the compulsively checking. Remember: it's just not that competitive a fellowship at present still and you'll probably get plenty of invites.

How many places are people applying to? I'm seeing numbers of 40-100 in the thread, which seems a bit high. I asked faculty at my institution, and they said the average is 8-10. I'm applying to 9, but mainly limited to where my fiancée is applying for GIM fellowship (BU, UPMC, Hopkins), which is outside the match unfortunately. Also, that means half my application list is UPMC, Harvard, BWH, and Hopkins. I've gotten 3 interviews so far, but how many do I need to expect to match somewhere?

I read that if you get 8 or 9 you should be set and you'll match. I think the NRMP has stats on this. A guy in my class calculated out the NNM (number needed to match) and pegged it at 9
