Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Maybe the schools that we applied to all
"talk to each other" and they're deciding which one of us each of them is going to take. If only one or 2 schools offer us interviews they protect their yield because we have to accept. That's my hopeful theory. Lol

Listen. At this point I have to think of crazy reasons like this to keep from crying.

NYMc, stony, Albany, downstate, upstate, buffalo,Columbia( ha!), einstein
Similar, Columbia haha, Einstein, Stony, Downstate, Albany, didn't do Buff or Rochester, maybe I should have added Buffalo but I had a II from Upstate..rejected Hofstra..think I have 10 rejections and some OOS left..rough this time of year to keep hopeful!!!

I was complete around 8/26 and IS, so as we hear from these schools ( II or reject) we can keep this site posted so we can try to figure out " if the adcoms have gotten to our application yet. "Lol

I'm in a similar boat. 519 mcat, 3.9 gpa, one interview invitation in home state and silence from 7 others. I completed fairly late, late sept/early October, but I don't think I can chock up the silence to that any longer...

No keep chalking it up to that, that's what I'm doing, stay in the same boat with me!

No I don't remember asking about ties but you can incorporate it into the "why UCONN" question I'm sure!

Of course not! Why would they ask me that? That question is reserved for schools/states where I DON'T have a connection haha. Thanks for your response.

Its going to kill your soul, don't look at school specific threads :nailbiting:

Back when I got waitlisted at my top choice, only waitlist notifications had been posted, no one had posted an acceptance yet. So I said something like "someone needs to post an acceptance so I know this wasn't a mistake". After that, I ignored the thread like the plague because I knew looking at it would just make me upset. I successfully ignored it for about a month, and then got a notification that someone had quoted my post in the thread. Someone quoted my "someone needs to post an acceptance" post to say they had been accepted A MONTH LATER. It was like they did it purposely to make me feel bad. I said so, something like "Thanks a lot for doing that" and they liked the post, as if they thought I was serious! I highly dislike that person.

I could totally see you being Tyrion Lannister in real life.

At this point, I've accepted failure this cycle and gotten the cry out earlier rather than later..
My existential early-life crisis lasted a solid 2 weeks but it's all good now. An extra gap year never killed anyone!

Plus, an extra year of meaningful experiences could make one more viable for high(er) tier schools.

Didnt apply thank god...wow so late.
It looks like everyone who was not offered an interview was rejected today. Someone said the last interview are 12/18. I don't know if that's right but it looks like it

This does not solely pertain to you but I wonder what the people in here would say...

Would you rather graduate from Podiatry School in 4 years on full scholarship with $0 in debt or attend an Osteopathic Medical School, graduate with say a 200 Step 1 Score and $250,000 in debt? I personally have little to no interest in Podiatric Medicine but I'm curious if some of you would take the former over the latter.

If there are people in this thread that would take the former option, then they obviously don't want to become a physician. You'll be in debt either way if you chose to go to medical school (unless you have a full scholarship or are pursuing a PhD)--debt shouldn't be the reason you choose to pursue podiatry.

$250,000 of debt is terrifying if you don't have a way to pay it back or if you have a terrible-paying job. $250,000 of debt with even an average-paying job is actually less scary than you would think it is. Take it from someone who has student debt (not 250K but still) and who's worked an average-paying job for several years.

A monthly check and leftover money after all necessary expenses have been paid will change the way you view debt. It's all about being able to visualize the end of the tunnel where you pay off all of your debts.

Yeah but the question here is whether someone would chose one career over another based solely on debt, and I don't think that makes for a happy person in the long run. Debt can be VERY manageable as a physician if you live cheaply and only take out loans for what you absolutely need to pay at that moment in time.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Some people enter medical school with certain areas of medicine in mind and if they were to perform poorly on the boards and are only able to match into primary care or psychiatry that might be a problem for them, not for me, but for some it might. An individual that falls in love with their ortho rotation and is only able to post a 200 step 1 score may have been better off never going to Medical School, accumulating 250k+ in debt, and work in an area of medicine that they are not super passionate about. I am by no means trying to compare Podiatry School to Medical School or orthopedics to podiatry, they are very different fields/level of training, however if one is unable to get accepted to DO school after a couple of cycles and have an interest in orthopedics, the possibility of performing surgery on feet, receiving a scholarship or full ride to Podiatry School does not sound like an awful option.

Yeah, but now you're juxtaposing two different arguments--one is that someone hasn't been able to get into medical school after a few cycles and the other is that they couldn't match into their favorite specialty. For the former situation, I would agree that if they have an interest in Podiatry, that would be an option they could look into, since they can't seem to be able to get into med school. For the latter situation, there is a time debt for a person who can't match into ortho and decides to go back to school. That person is losing 4 years of their life and 4 years of salary they could be using to pay back their med school debts if they decided to pursue a primary care field (PCP physicians earn on avg. more than $50,000 more than podiatrists annually). Now, if that individual suddenly realized Podiatry was their dream, then I can justify that decision, but otherwise...not so much. If ortho is truly the only specialty they can imagine doing, why not shell out some cash, get a step 1 tutor, and retake the test?

i thought you cant retake step 1 if you pass?

I suppose the point of my post is that no, I would not chose one career over the other based solely on debt because, for the reasons I mentioned, debt is manageable and should not be feared.

I just got my first interview. On my last day of such a rough semester I get an interview invite to one of my dream schools. It's truly a Christmas miracle. I'm currently openly sobbing on a bus ride home. You will all get what you deserve, I know it! Thank you to everyone on this forum for helping me through this difficult few months.
