Official 2015-2016 Pulm/CCM Fellowship Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I fully agree with his sentiment. What our esteemed moderator is trying to convey is if you're going into pulm-cc for prestige or. Bragging rights, you will burn out and be miserable

I just want idiots to start thinking a little bit for themselves. ONLY a little bit. Not even that much. Just a bit.

Disagree. I didn't know I had a full 12 inches until the ruler came out. I think your sister knew. Oh yeah. It's why she loved it so much. But then. She's a size queen. And everyone hates those.

Were you born after 1990?
I have a theory about these things.

Wow. You are on quite the tear. I like it.

When do IV's stop coming in, Usually? and if some of the more experienced people can elaborate on, generally how many IV's does it take to match. Someone earlier said 8-10 is a safe bet. I have 7 so far 50/50 community programs/university.

There were people noting offers and rejections in the first week of October on last year's thread.

I guess so, every season seems a little different then the one before. If I had to guess, would say there are still more IV's to come!

What do you mean by "I guess so"? You asked a question, I provided a factual answer. There's no guessing here.

Unless you or someone else here has a crystal ball or a time machine, my answer is the best one you'll get.

I am agreeing with you, keep your pants on!

Baylor Houston vs Uni Of Tennessee based on reputation? can any one give me a perspective?

Can't speak for University of Tenessee, but Baylor is a top notch program. Good reputation, solid clinical training. I know their residents are very busy though, and that probably is true for the fellows.

Just got my St. Louis Uni invite.

Hey need help. Any interviewed at Detroit Medical Center, Wayne state university? What time interview day ends there?? I am trying to book return flight asap.
Thanks

Call me crazy, but why not just call them and ask?

Some of these posts are just needlessly abrasive. Having used this forum for the better part of a decade, I find that posting on SDN is sometimes like walking down a busy street in New York City with a fanny pack and a map.

Would you say so about their crit program as well?

Obviously I did that first [twice]. No answer. I cant leave voicemail as its full, and they haven't reply my email for 48 hours. Ticket cost already went up by 50 bucks meanwhile. :/

Man there is a lot of action on this thread! Why can't there be more action on the interventional forum?!?!?! Nobody is talking!

Hope interviews are going well for everyone! Good luck!

Can't speak for that since I haven't interviewed yet, but I know from prior experience that they are extremely clinically strong in just abt everything. You may get a more prestigious name somewhere else, but you'd generally be hard-pressed to find better clinical training. Then again, I don't need the competition, so feel free to go to TN! 😉

To quote a bigwig in the IP world.

Which of these is different?
A) interventional radiology
B) interventional cardiology
C) interventional Pulmonology
D) a large cheese pizza...

C, the rest can feed a family of 4

Nope.

Here is the official charting outcome published by NRMP for match year 2015

GI- 63.7%
PCCM-65.5%

Pulm is not necessarily more competitive than cardiology. Their are more people applying for cardiology then pulm. So although The percentage is lower from pulm than cards, this is with a less number of people in the applicant pool.

Anybody know anything about Georgetown PCCM fellowship? Georgetown vs UT Houston?
Cooper? I know it has Dillinger, but anything else there good?

U Ten for kind enough to adjust dates! Also, with your list like U Colorado/Yale/John Hopkins/Stanford.....Baylor doesnt stand a chance!

There are less number of people applying to Pulm/CC because there are lesser positions. I thought the concept of "percentage" is meant to eliminate the number of applicants and seats as its gives you a ratio and not an absolute number. Also, as the number of applicants goes higher for a the same number of seats, the percentage should go down (increased denominator). So in all, I don't get it !

Though I prefer it to be less competitive so that I can get into a better program 😡

Lol, I'm not doing Hopkins or Stanford. But I actually have been to Baylor before and love it. Plus Houston is great. I actually figure that it'll probably be pretty high on my list!

I know I'm keeping my Georgetown invite but I will probably not schedule UT-Houston. Take that for what you want. Houston is cheaper than DC. Georgetown *may* still be on paper charts. UT-Houston has to compete with Baylor locally. I've interviewed at both for different stages in my career and preferred Georgetown. :/

Most CCM programs go out of match from what I have heard which is not cool.

How about UCSD vs UCLA?

How about UCSD vs UCLA?

Didn't apply to UCLA (didn't want to live there and already knew I would prefer UCSD). Love love LOVE UCSD though! But you probably shouldn't go there... Seeing as I want your spot and all! 😉

Baylor and UCSD spots? That shall be a tough commute for those damn central lines and a-line in the middle of the damn night.

Lol, we'll the UCSD fellows rarely go in when on home call. And I used to live like 10 minutes from the Texas Med Center, so that's not bad, either. Optimism, my friend! 😉

Traffic even in busy metro areas is thin in the middle of the night.

Though if you get called in for a line you should be pissed. That when you walk the resident through the line yourself and tell them to ****ing learn.
