Received a call from an unknown number

picked up with excitement....

and heard "Hello! You have been selected for a free trip to Bahamas!"

So this happened to me not too long ago, but it was actually from the Indiana University School of Dentistry. I saw the 317 area code, got all excited, answered the phone and heard, "Hello, this is the Indiana University School of Dentistry giving an automated reminder for a dental cleaning scheduled for Luke at this time". I can totally relate to that disappointing feeling haha. And I'm on that "no interviews yet" boat so it's even worse

Wow that's amazing with a 17 DAT score. Also I'm sure you'll raise the score when you take it next. Anything else that might've helped your app?

My community service and work experience is really what makes my application. I have over 500 service hours, a medical mission trip, and have been working two years as a dental assistant. My boss is a great mentor and told me to stress my love of biology and manual dexterity skills. Thinking about bringing in a mini portfolio of my artwork and crown/bridge work to my interviews to show how well I work with my hands. Great LOE as well. I ran out of time on QR so thats really what killed my score the most...any advice?? 20s in OC and GC, bio Qs were all embryology which I barely touched so didn't do well on BIO.

Im going to be brutally honest here. There is seriously something wrong with your application that you don't want to address. There is no way with what you showing you only got 1 interview for the past four cycles. I think at this point it you, not them.

I feel the same way. I was advised to run a background check to make sure there wasn't something out there falsely. There isn't. Plus, I'm employed. But previous cycles I wasn't first batch and I did apply late. That's on me. I also retook the DAT. So my 19 wasn't what I had the first 2 times.

I don't think your stats is holding you back. It might be the timing. But base on the fact that this is your fourth times applying, it show you are persistence and determine to be a dentist. That aspect alone right there should land you a few interviews, but it haven't yet. Idk what wrong, but there definitely something wrong with your application.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. You're not the first person to say exactly that. I requested feedback from all of the schools last cycle. Not everyone provided a reason. But from those that did, the reasons were all over the place from not enough volunteering hours to DAT not high enough (the 19AA). One school didn't consider my postbacc Masters. I got pretty sad when a school that had published lesser average matriculated stats didn't offer an interview. I had a phone consult with the admissions rep in February and I just flat out asked, is there something wrong with me or my app? She said no. The person said I didn't need to take any more classes, that my GPA is good, that my DAT is competitive for them, but they just simply have too many candidates to select from and qualified people will get turned down each cycle. Maybe this sounds stupid, but It did make me feel a little better. It is what it is. There's no guarantee for anyone in this. Just because you've done a lot, earned a good DAT, and earned good grades doesn't entitle you anything. If you get selected and admitted, everyone should be humble and feel fortunate. We can chat privately if you like. Don't want to veer from the purpose of this thread.

I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. I want to help you get to the bottom of what going on with your app because from what you stated everything is competitive. There has to be something other than "we have too many qualified applicants so we can't grant u an interview." But pm me if you want to talk privately.

And truthfully two schools that grant me interviews this year was because I was a reapplicant applying to their school again. So considering this is your fourth times, that should be a major plus on your application.

That is not entirely true. Some schools do not consider whether you applied in the past or not. Just because it happened to you does not mean it will happen to everyone else.

I didn't say all schools, did I? But I'm willing to bet admissions will notice you from the rest of the applicants if you applied every year with small improvements each times. What shows your passion and determination for dentistry more by never giving up. If i was an admissions committee I rather take a chance on someone that is determined to be a dentist no matter what vs someone who has excellent stats.

That's what I said last week. I'll just stay positive and say that every week.
Same here. In fact, I got an email from Buffalo saying "continuing review" a few days ago. Some people said it means waitlist and will never get an interview invitation. I am just going to hold my head up and stay positive. I don't believe everyone who has received this email is forever on this "waitlist".

What are your stats?

sGPA : 3.79
oGPA: 3.79
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 21/19/17/20/None

I do have a 17 on BIO. So the two 17's that I have are what worry me the most.
Your GPA is solid (in fact, I wish I had that). People with a worse DAT score than yours get into dental schools so I say you got nothing to worry about.

Thank you for giving me some confidence! I am waiting for invitations with an optimistic heart. Best of luck to you too!

Has anyone received responses from NOVA? If so, what are your stats? Thanks!

Sry to hear that, how about faxing or emailing the schools that you applied to your unofficial scores.
I could do that I suppose. I've waited over 2 weeks for it to be updated already. Some schools don't take it but I guess I can do the research.

Anyone hear anything from Colorado? I mean, in terms of a confirmation that they received their application or an interview? Just curious because this is one of the schools I'm most excited about. Thanks!

I keep telling myself that as time goes on in August lol, praying next week brings me my Midwest school interviews 🙄

Right! I like applied to all Midwest schools and were just waiting, waiting, waiting haha

I received an email last week stating that my application is complete and under review. My friend who is a D1 there says to sit tight for Colorado, they typically are later than most schools to notify!
