Hey everyone,

I have two things I'd like to share/ask:

1.) I submitted my app to Upenn, temple, columbia, rutgers, harvard, and maryland, but I only heard back from and interviewed at temple. Is there a cause to panic? At first, I wasn't finicky, but now that we are halfway through November, I'm starting to legit panic by butt off. I just don't know how to feel and what to expect. I was at least hoping to hear back fro rutgers and maryland by now. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I really don't. It's so awesome to see some recent people here get interviews to uPenn. I genuinely feel happy for you, but it's starting to make me concerned about my app honestly. (App verified early July and DAT scores officially verified mid August). GPA: 3.92, DAT: 20. I don't know anymore friends :/

2.) This academic update period kinda had me like "what?" Is AADSAS asking me to send in my transcripts again ONLY once my Fall grades come out (which is end of December)? I don't know what to do about this. I am graduating this December too, which was unexpected.

Just looking for some comfort honestly. Best of luck guys and many congrats to the recent interview invites!

Well im by no means an expert or an authority.
Id say your GPA is awesome.
Whats your DAT break down?
Whats your major?
What research did you do? Havard is bigtime on research.
What did you do for volunteer work and hours?
Why did you only apply to 6 schools? I think the average is like 10ish? I applied to 18 got 3 interviews i have these stats for comparison:

3.3gpa 20AA 20ts 19bio 18gen 24ochem 21pat 22read 16 QRT
1800hrs as RDA
100 volunteering with families to freedom driving abuse victims to shelters.

My volunteering probably got my interviews for me as it was brought up everytime.

The bad news is that pre-dec interviews are about over, good news is post dec still rolling in!

Temple is my number one school honestly, but it is still disheartening not hearing back from all the others. I don't think there are any flags in my PS. I would describe my PS as typical, but nicely and honestly written. I'm not expecting to get into Harvard at all. It is a reach school, and in a way, so are Upenn and columbia. But I was at least expecting to get an interview fro rutgers and maryland (maybe even penn or columbia).

Some of my stats:
- science and overall GPA: 3.92
- Extracurricular activites: - 200 hours hospital volunteer
- 25 hours ortho shadow
- 35 hours oral surgeon shadow
- Temple dental school extern (40 hours)
- Research in chemistry 1000 hours (with a first author paper just submitted for review).
- Rec letters: committee + 3 science letters (all very strong).
- DAT: 20AA, 20PAT, 20TS
- DAT: 19 QR, 19 RC, 21 ORGO, 25 GENCHEM, 17 BIO

Chemistry major, undergrad is Temple.

It's whatever honestly :/ not much I can do anyway.

yeah for academic update send it once your fall grades are in
As far as you not getting interviews, your 17 Bio probably plays a role, I know Rutgers especially like high scores in the sciences
But with your stats you have very high chance of getting into Temple so at this point just wait until Dec 1

I feel your pain man. I could only afford to apply to 4 schools, including Maryland just a few days ago. Shame we do all the work then get somewhat held back due to financials. Hopefully we both get good news though.

It's such a shame that financials hold students back. Its a capitalist society, and I understand why it is that way but still sad to see people who can apply to 4 schools competing vs some people who have applied to 26 schools. Best of luck though!

Thank you I really appreciate that. I also understand the capitalist society, it also makes me appreciate alot of the dental school's policy of trying to somewhat offset that by favoring the "underrepresented and underserved" as far as acceptances, grants, etc. That's not to say anything against those who haven't had a rough time financially, I'm pulling for us all.

How many general dentist shadowing hours do you have? I didn’t see you post any.
 
Anyone know what the "check back Dec 1" status update on AADSAS might imply other than the obvious? I had interviews at 9 schools so far and Iowa is the only one that's made that change. I haven't received any rejections either. Thoughts?

Stalk previous years and you'll see dozens of people driving themselves crazy trying to decipher this. As much as we all wish there was a secret code, it means what it says: check back dec 1

Application opens same day every year...I'm not privileged in any way and so I knew that I was applying this cycle so rather than waste money applying numerous times, I saved up towards this. It was hard, but it's a present sacrifice that'll be worth it.

Sorry I wasn’t singling you out. I was just quoted your post because I was responding to that whole conversation. I also hope everyone gets in December 1st. I just want people in the future who read this to think about how present sacrifice can hopefully help relax them a little bit...if we can even still relax. Haha

I have applied to quite a lot of school but I am not receiving much replied back from school either positive or negative.
I keep seeing a lot of people that have heard back from the schools that I applied, and I am getting somewhat worried but I guess it is my fault that I applied too late.
Should I be hoping to receive interviews for after December 1? How difficult is it to be accepted for interviews you schedule after December 1?

YaY!!! I'm so happy for you!! Take a sigh of relief with all those interviews you just got 🙂 Did aadsas show a status change or did you get any emails prior to notification from WesternU? After completing the secondary, I have heard nothing from them. I'm getting pretty curious. Does anybody know if they started to send out rejections?

Some people get rejections before december 1st (as I have been reading around here). Would it not make more sense if they just rejected you immediately instead of having you wait until December 1st to reject you?

Sure, but that doesn't change what "check back dec 1" means. Plus, all those rejections have been coming without interviews... no school has rejected anyone who's had an interview yet (to my knowledge), so the fact remains that post-interview acceptances, waitlists, and rejections will come Dec. 1.

Thanks! Nope, still no change in status on AADSAS. I have no idea about rejections.. maybe check on last year’s WesternU interview/acceptance page.

Western doesn't seem to be using the aadsas portal at all this cycle, at least for updating app status.
