A program scheduling interviews via thalamus will always send you an email first though, correct?

Yes to set up the account. The email will be from Thalamus. No email from eras or the program itself

Anyone get an interview from U Tennessee? All of the thalamus dates are full, but I dont believe it.

Yup. Same situation.

X3, guessing they messed up Thalamus.

As a side note, you will all be fine. As someone who has been through an interview season/Match before, I know it’s stressful, I know everyone says to relax and it’s annoying but it really is the best advice. Also, do your best to have fun on the interview trail, for most it’s a ton of traveling to relatively new places - honestly is responsible for getting me out of comfort zone when it comes to traveling.

When things get rough, just remember you could be going through this (and paying for it) a second time - haha.

The only thing concerning is being told that they had in fact filled up when I called about it.

It’s super early in the game. From the majority of us who haven’t even gotten a single invite yet, just be thankful you’ve got that..

i dont understand how all the interview spots are full already, if they supposedly haven't scratched the surface with interviews

A lot of places won’t start sending interviews until the MSPE is released on October 1st. I know we’re all Type A but the time to panic is if it gets to be middle to late October and you have no interviews, not five days after ERAS has opened.

I looked at last year’s spreadsheet, most programs I applied to gave their first invites after MSPE’s went out.

Did many more interviews come out later in the season? Even for those who didn't get any interviews early on?

Do they send out interviews in waves randomly? Both my Anesthesia letters didn't get uploaded until this Tuesday and now I'm worried that I missed the interview invite window for the schools that already sent out interviews 🙁

Do you think you (and, more generally, any of us) can count on our home program to bail us out should things start looking south come mid-late Oct?

No. Your home program is not going to “bail” you out and match you.

Dude id wait until mid to late october to start addidng more programs and other specialties if needed. Dont depend on your home program to bail you out if you didnt earn it. In fact i wish i had a home program to bail me out ha

Generally speaking, more invites came out in the first two weeks of October than the end of September for all applicants.

Yeah, my home program has already told me I'm not strong enough to match there (even though I'll get a courtesy interview) and to apply broadly early on. Just part of honest advising I guess.

Looking at the 2017-2018 spreadsheet, only 55 of the 132 programs waited until after the MSPE to send out ANY invites. But like you said, it seems the greatest number of invites went out after October 1st. I think most programs just start sending a few early and it gets us all worried over nothing.
You need to realize the spreadsheet is from a sample of SDN.. even if programs send out invites prior to MSPE, it’s likely just to the rockstars. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not other programs that have sent out invites and we don’t know. There were people in late October who had step scores 211-220 with nearly 20 invites. Interview season goes beyond that and people likely stopped updating once their obsession with the match faded and it became more routine.

I'm starting to think I sent out too many applications...242 Step 1, MD. 50 programs+TY/Prelim

Did anyone interview at LSU today? where was your impression?

Feels like i'm just waiting for the big northeast invite wave, hopefully they start pouring in, so i can curb my spreadsheet addiction

Yes. Wear scrubs (not joking you will interview in scrubs) and prepare for a very low key and enjoyable interview day. Program is great, awesome attendings, friendly residents, great exposure to complex cases, program director is like no other in terms of supporting residents and providing research opportunities, solid work schedule with plenty of time to study, can moonlight. I have nothing negative to say about the program what so ever after spending a month down here. Highly suggest you all come see for yourself!

Just to calm the fire on all the anxiety about not receiving interviews. Look at how many people actually got interviews prior to october 1st.... NOT MANY . Things pick up after , so here enough proof for everyone to relax

PSA: Somebody keeps deleting my posts in the spreadsheet's chat column about interviewing at UT Knoxville. In light of the ongoing discussion about whether there was a glitch in thalamus, I thought it might be helpful to let people know that I was, in fact, able to sign up for a slot. While I was signing up, there was only one spot per day left, so I wondered if they only interviewed one person each day. This post got deleted from the chat. I then posted again, asking why it got deleted, and that got deleted again.

1. Please see the screenshots of my thalamus and the confirmation email attached, because apparently that's what it takes.

2. It is completely unacceptable that somebody is just deleting posts left and right without actually looking into their accuracy first. It kind of defeats the purpose of the spreadsheet, which is supposed to provide helpful information about this interview process to other applicants. It makes me feel like I can't trust a single thing that's posted, and that perhaps more schools have sent out interviews and we don't know about it because someone deleted that information. Everyone told me not go to on SDN during this process, guess they were right. This is much less helpful than it is anger- and anxiety-inducing. I will not be posting into it again. Just wanted to provide my n=1 experience and hopefully make someone question the power trip they're on of deleting other's contributions. Thank you, and good night.

Thanks for sharing, unfortunately this year it does seem there is someone deliberately messing with the spreadsheet... changing numbers, dates, deleting chat, etc. It is pretty embarrassing that someone at this stage of the game is so immature. We can only hope that this person is not actually going into Anesthesia as I do not wish to have this person as a colleague. You can lock your chat box so only you can edit it but it isn't ideal.

That is very disappointing. we should all be grown adults but I suppose some people still act like children. I suppose you could lock it? Or is that not possible on the spreadsheet? The only other real thing you could do is just post on the page if it’s a new school that you don’t see on there.

Ok serious question....what's the way to go about pulling out of an interview if one of your top programs offers you an interview on the same date? I already scheduled a few interviews, and so far none of my top choices have sent out their invites yet.

Is it just me or Thalamus has crashed? This kinda stops me from refreshing it every 5 minutes like a crazy person

Yeah seems like it's down.
People who got USC, Irvine, or Columbia interviews already--is this your home institution or do you have ties?

just assigned my fourth letter to programs, is there anything else i have to do in that regards? or does it just automatically update, whenever they download the application

Did anyone hear back from Dartmouth after responding to the email with dates? I emailed and sent one through ERAS - wasnt sure which to do.

Can anyone fix the "Q&A" and "Common interview questions" on the googledoc? Looks like a troll deleted it all...

Send an email stating that you’re unable to make it for the scheduled date but you are still very much interested in their program and would like to reschedule if possible. If that last part isnt true then don’t ask to reschedule but thank them for the opportunity. You won’t be the first or the last to reschedule/cancel this year.

Ps it’s kinda early to cancel. Unless you really don’t like the place, I’d reschedule.

Which 2 schools did you get so far?

Same situation haven't heard back after sending dates to Dartmouth or Stony Brook. I just sent an email for both.

NYU and Stony Brook. Stony hasn't emailed me back confirmation either, so don't worry.

Seems like Columbia/UCLA/USC, which I applied to, have already sent out interview invites though 🙁
Anyone know if there will be more invites from these programs sent out later or if this is it?

Ok friends...this is gonna come off like a humble-brag but that's not my intent, just looking for some advice here.
Stats are 246 Step 1, 262 Step 2, first quartile, no research, no red flags.
I think I might have overapplied (31 anesthesia programs + 10 IM prelims), 6 anesthesia interview invites so far (5 of those are regional).

I have a strong preference for categorical programs and considering withdrawing from the prelims and the 2 advanced only programs I applied to. This would decrease my chances of matching places that offer both categorical and advanced spots, but might relieve a lot of stress of dealing with the prelims?
Don't want to shoot myself in the foot here...is it safe and a smart decision at this point to do this and go straight categorical? I know a lot of people apply only to categorical, guess I'm just looking for reassurance that this isn't a mistake

It depends, I have a similar Step 1 worse quartile. If you have your heart set on a specific program no matter what, keep the advanced for them. If they're all pretty similar to you, you can afford to do categorical only.

When are these waves pre mspe? October 1st ? Then what nov ?

Yeah I heard it was Sep, Oct, Nov/Dec.
I was tripping about not getting an invite from Columbia and USC but if they send me one next month then I still got chances

Here's an exhaustive list of the advantages of withdrawing early:
