Mayo Rochester does this also but when Mayo does it, is only for their top applicants they know they want to rank 1 to 7.

Others do it so they don't go unfilled.

A GI program concerned about getting filled ? Now I have seen everything...

Is a GME thing, all of the programs of that institution will do it. From residency to fellowship.

some programs do go unfilled. Some go all the way to their number 14 or 15 on their rank order list.
My program usually goes to number 5.

but I do know programs that do end up not getting ranked high enough by the applicants so they end unfilled. Look at the data from previous years.

to that point , i know some programs rank people they know want to come to them higher to fill earlier..particularly programs which knows they want to keep in house + candidates with connection...i also know programs who interview the most qualified and rank the most qualified to the least...such programs sometimes end lower but probably get more competitive applicants...

What I find irritating is that some pds are too stressed about where the program ends and screw up the rol in that process...
 
Hi y’all!! I think the season is almost over!
I received a total of 8 invites.. for an img from community not terribly, although there is no in house fellowship where I am. So.. I’m a little bit worried about the match.
What are your thoughts?

Great job! Short answer is you have a decent chance to match, 67% to be exact (based on last year's stats). Long answer is that it really depends on the makeup of programs you interviewed at. I wish you all the best!

They all take IMG, however mainly males, I’m a girl so I’m very scared about that.

exactly wow some programs really try to figure the best ROL and that does tilt the whole thing. everyone, program and applicAnt rank should be based on what they want not some order you or them think is better chance of matching. Rank how you want and where you want.
 
Hi everyone! Any input on KU? Do they not like females? Only one of their 12 fellows is a girl and seems like this has been a trend.

I am an IMG (J1 visa) doing residency at a community program. I have 7 interviews, including my home program (but there are 3 other people applying from my class; we have 2 spots). What are my chances?

in 2019 gender should not be an issue.... i think its all imagination for most part...

Mississippi is starting to be good.but KUMC if is the one with Dr Sharma if I am not mistaken is golden. They are very strong they do take a lot of in-house but the PD is one of the top 10 interventional Gasteoenterologist in the Nation

tell them in your program do you offer FMLA also report this program ASAP this is against the rules.

please tell us which program it is.
Women in GI society is a strong society and this program needs to be addressed properly.

also if a program asks this just run away Or walk out.

I once had an interview at a community program in NY , the PD asked me how are you allowed in the US aren’t you from countries at war. I was like dude I am Canadian first of all second this is Wrong, is people like you who spread propaganda. What’s funny is that the PD got fired or left 1 month or so later. I also walked out of that interview.

anyways point of the story is that programs want you. And if you don’t like it. Report it here and GI world is small we will be all behind you.

I think this question is very inappropriate... granted GI is very competitive and people get asked illegal questions much more often than other specialties , but this is wayyy over it... I am in favor of reporting it.... If the question was asked as framed the interviewer is perhaps not fit to practice ...

Another female applicant also had similar experience with the same individual. We were planning to report it ASAP. We are just afraid of damaging our careers. But I left like crap after that.

This is the 21st century. Do not be scared. plus when they ask you this is total violation both ethical and political.

I think we're getting to the point where many will be asking for help ranking their top programs. Good problems to have 🙂

rank where you want to be, based on your plans after graduating and where you want to go, do not rank based on what we recommend or what we think.
Everyone is biased against some program due to their own experience or lack of knowledge of the program.

Could not agree more! If your goal is PP in a certain region, you may not rank the same way as some hoping to have a research/academic career, or if your goal is a subspecialty then you may rank based on that. Also personal reasons (family, preference of location, etc) will factor in differently for everyone.

I had one place say no thank you also. I wrote a hand written thank you card. And the PD wrote a hand written thank you card back at the same place telling me no thank you emails please and is not needed.
Maybe they meant no thank you email so I wrote one and got one back.
 
What is the University of Michigan interview day like? I applied to both the t32 clinical research and the clinical scholar tracks. It's not clear if I'm interviewing for both or just one.

The day goes until 3pm. You will interview with about 6 faculty, a couple of breaks in between. They have multiple presentations one of which is about t32. They will tell you that if you're interested in the t32 you should fill and submit a form (that's already available in their website). Good luck.

Regarding the t32 is that still an option which the J1-IMG can't take or has law changed
