When you withdraw your application after you’ve scheduled an interview, have people just been withdrawing the application on ERAS or also emailing the program coordinator? Email the PD as well?
I sense a large number of soaping programs coming.I wish everyone the best of luck. I am not much hopeful about my chances myself with only 4 interviews.
No worries. I know someone who got 10 IVs and did not match. However, two of my friends matched with 3 IVs and even just one. If any programs rank you high ( especially 1 to 3 ) you will be in....Period. Good Luck!I wish everyone the best of luck. I am not much hopeful about my chances myself with only 4 interviews.
I dont think so tbh, I think this is just a weird year where people may go really far down their rank list. I have been several interviews and have seen the same 3-5 people 3+ timesI sense a large number of soaping programs coming.
Can only speak for others who just didn’t rank enough places 7-10 who were just picky about location. The rule of thumb is if you are desperate to be a GI doc, rank every place you interview at. Also don’t believe anything anyone says to you until match day.Can anyone on here comment on why they think they didnt match last year, how many Invites they had?
Just to clarify, are you saying 7-10 is not enough? Or people ranked less than that? Can only speak for others who just didn’t rank enough places 7-10 who were just picky about location. I think that what he meant. If we assume that (1) the top tier applicants go to more interviews this year (makes sense but nobody can be sure) and (2) programs do not offer significantly more interviews than last year (seems like consensus of this forum and I also asked my PD) then it makes sense that the mid tier and below programs will fall further down their rank list since the number of total applicants do not increase significantly from year to year (3rd assumption but backed up by some data). As in programs will still fill their spots despite plenty of the same applicants overlapping and overlapping applicants may drop lower than expected on rank list?
Just to clarify, are you saying 7-10 is not enough? Or people ranked less than that?
Also, I guess U of A Tucson is just gonna take internal applicants and be done then? Can I ask for my money back?
I received an invite from Tucson yesterday- why do you say that? (was not planning to accept the interview anyway because of scheduling conflicts)Also, I guess U of A Tucson is just gonna take internal applicants and be done then? Can I ask for my money back?
the typical saying is that if you rank 8-10 you have a high chance of matching. i dont think that applies to GI fellowship because usually, people are applying for only 1-2 slots at a given program's track. ie, there's 1 T32 slot, 2 clinical slot, 1 hepatology track, etc. thus with 8-10 ranked programs you are effectively ranking only about 10-20 slots. so yes, rank as much as possible.the people I know who ranked 7-10 and didn’t match were picky. They didn’t rank multiple other places they interviewed because they didn’t like the location and received false hope from their more favorited programs.
Oh I didn't see it on the list and was hoping for one. I guess they just ignored me...I received an invite from Tucson yesterday- why do you say that? (was not planning to accept the interview anyway because of scheduling conflicts)

I think a lot of people in the mid range will have a lot of variability this year; meaning people with 3-5 will have a lot more matches than prior, and 6-8 may have less; I think the people with 10+ will have same changes of matching...Oh I didn't see it on the list and was hoping for one. I guess that depends on how high is considered high. The only stat we have is from 3 yr old NRMP that said if you rank 9-10 then probability of matching is 85-90%. All the things you said about track apply to everybody so...

Anyone know if California Pacific, USC or Cedars-Sinai have any more interview dates or have they finished their interview days?
Anyone able to gauge what programs think of you in terms of rank preference during interviews? I'm halfway through 20+ total as well, and have no idea how im doing lol
Haha understood but it's also about matching well right, like I am trying to gauge if some high tier programs frim which I completely did not expect to receive an interview, just wanted some safety numbers for themselves or if they're actually interested 😛With 20+, if you don’t match then you have more personality problems to worry about than your GI career.

Shh! Don’t reveal the secret! That personal touch from a PD who cares can go a long way.words of wisdom: rank programs based on how you feel about the place and based on your feedback you received from fellows during your interaction. Never rank based on how they communicate with you after IV. I am sure majority of the people know this but year after year, few make the mistake of ranking a low tier program high coz the PD made a personal call or email

Absolutely true. However. The margin for error is less. If a couple things go the wrong way an otherwise competitive candidate can end up not matching. It absolutely happens. This kind of thing almost never happens for IM residency for someone ranking 8-10 programs since the programs are huge.
Anyone interview at medical college of Wisconsin on 10/12? Have you received itinerary yet?
they are always late with giving itineraries..partly because they have 1 pc dealing with 4-5 fellowships... email to PC..mostly she won't reply...
For an interview on Oct 5, I got my itinerary on Sep 30.when to expect the itinerary for upcoming monday? any idea from past interviewees? I emailed the PC but hasn't gotten response
i interviewed there last year..never got the itirenary. i had a friend interviewing at the same day.. got the timings from him...everyone interviews with the same faculty (had about 7-8 interviews)when to expect the itinerary for upcoming monday? any idea from past interviewees? I emailed the PC but hasn't gotten response
my advice is to rank all programs... you can get x academia and publish after getting from anywhere... even if u don't publish much during fellowship..if u have a very focused fellowship and academia does not workout it's hard to get x private practice... eg let's say you are interested in IBD..And you focus on pouchitis and have 15-20 papers , and some early career grants etc... you don't get tenure at a place of your choice due to no vacancies (happens too often even for ivy league type ) , and u end up in some mid tier program with /without academic tenure , and remain stuck there .. you won't be able to go to private practice because all u did was ibd and publish papers about pouchitis ...Personal reasons and conflict dates. 2 programs were due to conflicts (1 conflict was because they scheduled me for an interview during ACG) the rest just seemed like terrible community hospitals in fairly horrible places to live, where they use you more as cheap labor than provide a teaching experience, think the programs that "guarantee" that you'll be ERCP/EUS certified after 3 years.
Did anyone who interviewed at Stanford get asked to interview with the division chief separately? Are they doing this for all applicants?
Is anyone familiar with the Kaiser programs? Seems like nearly all the graduates stay with Kaiser... is this an expectation? Other pros/cons?
20 years to 50% pension plus health insurance for life, counting training years. If you do residency + fellowship there only 14 to go.
Anybody got an invite from Sunrise Health in Las Vegas but unable to schedule interview? From ERAS dashboard, I went to Interview -> Invitations but nothing there to schedule. I was able to schedule for other places. Thanks.
Any thoughts about how I should rank the following programs?
