*~*~* Official AACOMAS Questions Thread 2016-2017 *~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks, also what do you out down for volunteer, part time, temporary, I'm confused about that part lol
Depends. I wouldn't put down temporary, as that's usually associated with someone filling in the place of someone else at a full time job. If you volunteered everyday, say from 9-5 then it would be full time. If you volunteered maybe 3 days per week it would be part time.

lol how about once a week for 4 years lol. i guess that is part time. i usually associated full and part time with employment so aacomas is throwing me off there but ill give them a call tomorrow just to double check what they prefer!

LOL yeah they really aren't giving a whole lot of options here but I'd say part time.

I hate that we only have 600 characters WITH SPACES to describe achievements and experiences. So ridiculous. How am I so supposed to describe a 2.5 year long internship in 600 characters WITH SPACES. Thanks AACOMAS.

No kidding. Try during a deployment to Afghanistan! Just remember that everyone gets 600, so no one is writing a novel on their experiences.
Thanks for your service on this memorial day weekend m8! Good luck to you this cycle.

for those of you who submitted, is your essay just one big giant paragraph or did you have breaks in between paragraphs?

One question: How do you listed your wife in your application? I only see parents information but not your others information.

would I be considered earlier if I submit my application now than jun 15 or it wouldnt make a difference?

Hey all,

So during the experience/achievement section did you relate all of your experiences back to medicine saying something like "... will help me with being a doctor" or no? Also, did you submit your app with or without your letters of recommendation? I am using interfolio and most of my letters are uploaded; still waiting on one. Thoughts?

If your app is fully ready now, go ahead and submit asap. It'll give you time for your app to be verified before schools begin receiving apps on June 14th. BUT, if you need a little more time to hammer out the details, submitting June 15th is perfectly fine and still considered early for the AACOMAS cycle.

For shadowing hours, do you list separate experiences with separate doctors, or combine them altogether?

I list separate experiences though. Cause they are from 3 different sources, and we are required to input contact of each source.

AACOMAS lists contact as optional. I listed the five doctors I shadowed under the description and they all were employed by the same hospital too. You think that will be appropriate?

I think it will be fine in your case. I just list them separate just in case AACOMAS want to contact them individually. Plus, they're all different specialties so I can put what I observe in each different shadowing experience. Honestly, I don't think it is that matter though, after all, it will be gathered in one "Health-care experience" when you are verified.

Applied for a fee waiver on 5/27, transcripts were received on 5/17. During this time, I could not submit because my fee waiver was still being approved and all the boxes were grayed out. I then was approved today 6/1 and submitted my app today. 15 schools cost me $480.

That sounds relatively worth it then. I applied to 10 schools and it cost me $445 without the fee waiver.

Yeah, I just wrote this because someone in this thread was wondering why their boxes may have been grayed out.

how much does the fee waiver reduce your application costs? and how do you know if you qualify for fee waiver?

The first three schools are free to apply to, the rest are $40 for the primary. I also heard many schools may reduce or waive secondary fees as well, which is also major savings.

I’m a little confused. For the AMCAS we can only submit our application on June 7th. Is that the asme for the AACOMAS? The site says “June 15 was when schools began receiving information from applicants”. Does that mean I can send it in June 15th or can I send it in anytime?

Ok so I'm trying to submit my application to one school to get verified. However, I don't have all my evaluations in as of yet (I will have them by the time secondaries come, presumably). When I go to submit my application to that one school, it says it will lock my evaluations? Is that a problem? Can I still submit more later?

Your evaluation won't effect the submitted applications. Once you submitted, the entire application will be locked so be aware of that

how do LOR work? Like can you submit your app without the letters then submit the letters at a later time? And when you apply for say 5 schools - does every letter get sent to every school?

anyone else's AACOMAS portal lagging like crazy?

Submitted last Thursday and verified today! Man, a 4 business day turnaround is pretty awesome.

How many experiences have people put down? I put down about 12. I know quality over quantity but I was just curious... This is the last part for me before I submit and I want to ensure that it shines.

Also has anybody who has vague public health courses who were verified by aacomas get such courses included into their sGPA?

I had 15, I just kept them the exact same as my AMCAS. 2 of the 15 were honors/scholarships and 13 were activities, volunteering and jobs.

15 is the max for AMCAS, I did not know that? And yeah I would also have 15 because of 3 "achievements" I listed.

Submitted on 5/17, still not verified. Starting to get annoyed here...

That's odd, I submitted after you! The guy I spoke with said it's only taking a week right now. You should call and assure nothing is wrong.

I am planning on submitting my application around June 9, 2016. AACOMAS already have my transcripts and all my LOR are in Interfolio. Is this too late to apply since the application has been open for about a month now.

I have a question regarding course entry. My Bio 2 lab was actually called Animal Diversity Lab on my transcript. Should I enter it as bio 2 or as animal diversity? Thanks y'all

You should enter it as exactly how it appears on transcript

I'm doing an MPH program and have a choice to choose my electives for next spring semester. However, I do not know which electives I will be taking yet. I have already entered the mandatory classes that I will be taking from next summer to spring and the last 4 electives are the only things left to enter. How do I enter that in my transcript entry section?

Also if you have AP credits for a class what semester and term or semester do you place that in?

Your transcripts can only be verified after you submit. Maybe all of your sections aren't completely filled and that's why it's still gray?
I'm a reapplicant and I just found out that the letters of recommendations on my application are removed from last cycle. I just emailed all my profs to resubmit their letters, but should I submit my application just as it is without any letters of recommendations? if so should I only apply to one school then add other schools when I receive the letters of recommendations?

I just got verified today. How do I know if my repeats were properly calculated? On my intro bio repeats it says "repeated" in the special class section of my PDF transcript. On other classes that I intended to have repeated, it doesn't say that. Can that be fixed?

For your experiences if I was on SGA should I say University of x - SGA or just SGA?

I would suggest submitting a single school if you are not confident in your professor's timeliness.

The most important thing right now is to get your transcript, MCAT verified before the rush of applicants comes in and you have to wait 4 weeks. I submitted mine last week and it took two days.

what difference does it make?

Have to use inter folio or virtual eval (Costs $$$$) to complete secondaries. Its much cheaper to use AACOMAS and submit LORs to schools through this route.

I knew my professors could not give me a document until july. I felt that personally this would be too late to submit a primary and I would be too far behind.
