In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

Ah - any suggestions on a sweeter red I might like?

I had pinot noir once and I didn't like it because it wasn't dry enough. I felt that same way about Cabernet when I tried it. If you'd like to try something a little dryer, then I'd suggest Chianti, which is my favorite. It's still dry but it's pretty sweet.

Blushes are also really good since they aren't dry like red wines but they still have some of the flavor of red wine in them.

I'm almost 100% certain the scores will be released on the evening of June 19th, 2006
I'd be willing to bet my MCAT score on it.
haha.

you should try cabernet sauvignon. it's a little fruitier and definitely not on the dry side like merlot. if you are looking for a sweet red wine that's cheap but still relatively good, try carlo rossi's sangria...it's usually 5.99 for a big jug of it.

I've never been the biggest fan of sangria. I think that it's because I feel like I'm drinking more of a juice/cocktail than a wine since it's so sweet.

so does any one know when they will be released ONLINE??! anyone??!! THANK YOU!
Dr. Julian (Director of MCAT for the AAMC) said June 20th was the release date for the online score reports. I don't know about the printed score reports. I'll ask her about the printed score reports if you guys want me to do that, but she's very busy, so I'd rather not keep bothering her over and over. So this is going to be the last question, guys.

i feel the same way, but then again, i'm generally a dry wine person. sangria can be really good if it's made well...for ex. my mom makes some really good sangria. but it all depends on the person's taste. it's usually good for people who prefer the sweeter wines, though.

You don't necessarily have to go for sweeter ones -- for some reason, many Americans seem to go in for syrup when they drink wine. The key is to avoid the ones with the tannin-y aftertaste.

With red wine, you really get what you pay for. Chianti and Valpolicella are good. Amarone di Valpolicella is better, if you're happy to spend a bit more money. If you buy Italian ones, look for a phrase (I've forgotten it) with the initials DOC in small letters on the front label. Those are the best. Denominacione di Origine Controllata or something like that.

Yuck! That stuff is a jug of hangover!

If you like frutier wines try a Shiraz/Syrah. They're full flavored and jammy.

ok, well then don't drink it! 😛

i was simply trying to make a suggestion for someone looking for a much sweeter wine.

The irony for me was that I was finishing verbal with ease but on the actual test day I guessed on the whole last passage about...can't say on here....here's to hoping that one was the experimental passage. 😳

All in all is doesn't bode well for my composite score.

Same here lol, during all my practice runs I had about 2 minutes to spare. Hopefully we will be ok🙂

Scentiment--If I do score a 10+ I would faint

My favorite pop red wine is the Shiraz-Grenache blend from Yellowtail. I'm not going to pretend to know more than "I like it."

Here's what they say about it:

w_shiraz_grenache_hd.gif

Winemaker's notes
A classic Aussie blend of the peppery qualities of the Shiraz complementing the upfront cherry flavors of the Grenache. The two varieties come together in a balanced wine with earthy tones, strawberry aromas and vibrant acidity.

This is often true, although I've occasionally had a $25/bottle wine that was equally comparable to a $8 bottle...

Word. According to my bottle right here that my (very nice) boyfriend brought back from Siena, the initials are DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita). Those ones are inspected and approved by Italian agriculture dept.

My former flatmate was a huge wine buff and taught me most of what I know so I knew about looking for the initials on wine.

I know enough to know I like sweet wine and I'm not a fan of drier wines.

Truth is that I"m a whiskey girl. If y'all want advice to that end, be sure to look a sister up.

i switched from kaplan material to all EK for the april exam..damn it totally changed the way i approached the test..esp verbal. boy all the bs about underlining stuff and trying to map the passage is a complete waste of time and is only preached for kaplan's money motive purpose. I highly recommend following EK's suggestions...it will make you think straight and approach the exam on your strengths rather than a stupid kaplan strategy. Hopefully none of us ever have to take this annoying test again..by the way anyone remember what section your test was?? I had BQ!

hey, i had BQ too!! We should chat! 😎

I absolutely adore Electra wine, both white and red.

They're a sweet, orange-muscat based wine:

And you can find them in pretty much any major liquor store (I found them from Chicago to Mobile) and it's cheap - I've never paid more than $8 a bottle.

My absolute favorite is Shawnee Gold from Alto Pass vineyards in Alto Pass, IL. The BEST sweet white wine ever.

If you like fruit wines (not from grapes), then Blue Sky vineyards in southern illinois is awesome.

if you live close to Southern Illinois and want a neat day-trip, especially early fall, check out: http://www.shawneewinetrail.com/history.htm

Ok, y'all, I've heard back from Dr. Julian. I told her about the current angst on SDN, as well as all of the conflicting dates of release. It turns out that apparently BOTH sets of scores (paper and electronic) will be released on June 20th. Here is what she said about the process of MCAT scores being released:

Dr. Ellen Julian said:
ACT sends the scores to us and then mails out the letters. We have to match the scores with our databases of MCAT histories and resolve all discrepancies before we can post them. So, ACT doesn't really know when the actual electronic release date will be, but they do know about the paper reports - because they send them out. That's why I'm inclined to think that the 20th is a good estimate for that, too.

She also commented that while it is true that she and the other AAMC people are indeed sadistic (and that if they weren't, they wouldn't be working there :meanie: ), their need to verify everyone's scores is the real reason why the scores haven't yet been released. So you've heard it first, and you've heard it here: it's not about sadism, people. It's about some of your scores having "discrepancies." 😉

I knew I misbubbled or forgot to bubble something in!

Awesome! Thanks for the advice - I don't know if I have ever tried a wine NOT from grapes so I will definitely check that out.

Maybe they have you as a 42 and 43 so they are trying to figure out which one is right 😀

yeah, that would be freakin' awesome ....

I did get a 42 in my dreams .... unfortunately that is the only place I will ever get one of those on the MCAT. 😉

It is seriously killing me to know that my test probably has a score already ... and I don't know it yet!! AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

I feel much better now after getting that out. 😉

So what exactly is a score discrepancy???

I hope it's not on my test! LOL

I sure hope no one swaps a 30 with a 17 for me!!!!!!!!!!
Nightmare. 😱

CJ here.
Could have used some help there I am pretty sure. I tried to identify these myself but unfortunately for me I am too impatient. It will, as it often has come back to haunt me. Most everywhere in life everyone has that one flaw they are just a little too arrogant or apathetic to correct, that is mine and arrogance is for sure the reason I don't fix it. That'll all change in med school I suspect, when I am no longer the pacemaker but just another graded potential trying to get to threshold. A great subset of minds to be average amongst, hopefully average. Have always enjoyed the fight, win or lose.

This shizzle is making me far too philosophical, I need a beer. In the words of Ray Wylie Hubbard "Screw you we're from Texas".....there I feel better. 😉
hahaaha. I liked the above paragraph. Sometimes our great minds let out a nice spew of poetry.

Haha, yeah knowing that doesn't really make me feel much better. 😉

no kidding. This whole discrepancy thing is freaking me out even more. I have yet to submit my apps thanks to these reindeer games.

Whisky girl, huh? So here's a test for ya....what is your favorite Whiskey/Bourbon?

I happen to be a big fan of this too!

I can't believe how much this thread has blown up today! I had to do some serious catching up! I see that the 20th has been confirmed, and thanks to the detective work of Inspector Q, we now have inside knowledge of the cause of our delay.

I am still going to be optimistic 👍 , and assume that it will not take until the 20th to resolve the referenced discrepancies...I would hope the date they provide is conservative.

Anyone care to join me?

The only correct answer is Woodford Reserve.

If that's the type you go for, you should really get yourself a bottle of Blanton's...you'll never look back (except of course when your budget requires you to)...

Meh...I'm not a big bourbon fan but when it's Derby time, Woodford Mint Juleps are the only way to go.
