In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

So I kept posting that someone should call and demand answers from the MCAT people...but now that we have answers, I'm not satisfied. Nothing except the actual scores will make me feel better, apparently. Damn.

Ah - any suggestions on a sweeter red I might like?

try a pinot noir or maybe a red zinfandel from the US. Beaujolais is pretty light and fruity as well or skip the wine and try a ruby port 🙂

20th seems late being that the 8/20 test came out at night time on 10/13

That's because first deadline dates for schools are October 15th. If it weren't for that, I'm sure it would be exactly 60 days too. Its still lame though that they aren't giving you guys your scores.

I don't want to be a wallflower anymore!!!!!!!!!

I know exactly how you feel. I am so nervous about seeing those scores, though!!! After the test, I felt like I did ok (except on VR).....as the score release approaches, I keep feeling like I didn't do too great. I hope my first feelings are right!!!

Good luck to everyone!!! :luck: :luck: :luck:

So how are people here going to pass the time until next Tuesday, which seems a decade away. I know my apps are going to be slightly late out. I just know it, and then my interview schedule will get all messed up. Im still waiting for decisions from masters programs, contingent upon my MCAT, which then means i have to wait for those application decisions, so I could add it into my amcas app. Ohhhh the humanity....

premdAshley--
I'm on the same boat as you are. I am getting more and more nervous as the score date nears let alone the fact I am checking this site often. I just keeping doubting my performance!

Anyone else think that the THx page should contain a link or a number to a suicide prevention hotline?

 I agree. Or we should only be allowed to open our scores in a padded room with no windows.....

Yes. 🙁 I've been wishing the world explodes into oblivion before the 20th.

This wait is awful!! I just want to know it and get it out of the way.

I've heard of a few people actually offing themselves back in the early 90s because of bad MCAT scores. One was supposedly at my school and one was at a school near here.

In case you didn't see this post in the other thread:

All right, I've got some useful news for you April MCATers. I didn't want to post that I was doing this until she got back to me, but I contacted Dr. Ellen Julian, who is the Director of MCAT for the AAMC, and she confirmed that your scores would be released online on the 20th. So you guys can stop checking obsessively this week. I don't know why some of you were told the 12th/13th, but again, Dr. Julian said the online release would be June 20th.

Q, can you ask Dr. Julian what my score is? 😍 If the score discrepancy is my 44/45 tell her I'll take the 44 and to release the scores !!!

What do you guys think AAMC would do if let's say there were ten people who scored 45 during one administration (clearly cheating somehow) but AAMC could not figure out how it was that they cheated and thus couldn't prove it?

BioMedEngineer said:
They should leave those people alone!

So you say suffer the consequences of cheaters and go on with it? No...I am sure they would be forced to take these guys out of the curve (somehow) or we all would have lower grades. For me I would just take them before Chuck and let him issue out the necessary roundhouse kicks until they confessed to what they did.

I was only kidding 🙄

i wish there was a way we could have a text message sent to our phone when scores were up. i wonder how we'd go about setting up a database of our numbers and an automated announcement letting us know. i'm serious too about this idea, cause this is really nervewrecking, as everyone here already knows.

and btw, i was a newbie but i never got the handclapping smily face or the welcome to the family, and that just makes things so much worse...

Welcome to SDN 😀

Well its officially the 13th in Chicago...one week to go everyone, can we do it...I think not...AAMC bastards....

Now I can't sleep because I KNOW that the scores are out their in some safe or sitting in some big box.....this is so cruel lol. This week will be hell...I wish we had some secondaries to work on 🙂

well the way i see it... there is no sense in being nervous...nothing you can do about it now, it is what it is, i know i did my best...i didn't dare go into that thing half assed, i just want my score so i can either apply or figure something else out

I hope that I'm one of the suspects, because I didn't cheat and I'd be stoked to have a 45! Whoooohooo!

I really need to finish my personal statement, write an autobiography (for our premed comm letters), poke some people to finish sending my transcripts ordered weeks ago, study for my summer classes, study for finals next week (I was really hoping the MCAT scores would be out this week so I could deal with that before finals, oh well), and constantly check my MCAT scores online. Ugh...not a fun week.

I don't understand all of the time it takes to "verify" scores. In the past, they have gotten the scores online early, like a week early. Now, it seems like they are taking a hard-line approach, artificially setting a date for release, and sticking to it even if the scores are ready. Maybe some new policy change at the AAMC by some obscure committee. Gotta love big organization committee-think, believe me I've been there! 🙂

60 day thing is ridiculous to begin with.

I don't know any other test that takes that long to grade... maybe the AP tests back in highschool but it certainly wasn't 200 bucks and nobody cared nearly as much as people do about the MCAT.

Why 60 days?
do they really need all that time or was it just a somewhat arbitrary number that they decided on during some sort of a ******ed meeting?
Whatever the reasoning may be, it infuriates me.

when do your classes end? Its a bit late to be having finals this time around no?

Well, I'm a little suspicious too... but on the other hand, did you guys hear about all the mis-scored SATs this year? I would be willing to wait a week if it meant guaranteeing that didn't happen to any of our MCATs.

I'm still not convinced, of course. But at this point I'm cranky enough that nothing really will convince me. 😡 Thanks for getting us the official excuses anyway, Q! 🙂

Does anybody actually get a 45? I realize that if anybody does, its not many, but is there actually anybody that can get a 45 without cheating. I mean hitting the 40s at all seems like getting a 9000 out of 1600 on the SATs.

that is a v. good point. i would rather them take a few extra days than get the wrong score.

Yeah, I did hear something about that! I didn't hear the whole story but someone told me it was on the order of thousands of tests that were screwed up. How did they even catch the errors??

Does anyone know how AAMC came up with the stupid 60-day period? They might as well release it 66 days after... Ugh...

im sure there are, to be honest, i think the people who hit in the the high 30s and 40's arent necessary super geniuses per se, but just really really good at taking tests, theres much to say about test taking methodologies. half of taking a test is knowing the material, the other half is testing taking strategy. most of us here probably know the material that these guys do, but are nowhere near as good in test taking strategy as those 40 guys do. but hey what do i know, i probably didnt get anywhere near a 40.

I am getting moe and more nervous by theminute. I mean the AAMC almost has me wondering if I even took the freakin exam... I think I was there, I meant to be there, but I don't have any scores. Maybe I just forgot to take it??

The thing that worries me is not that i'll have a bad score...but that if i have to do the CBT test, VR will be even worse!! VR is the score i'm worried about and if its bad again (below a 10...we need a 10 for canadian schools), then i have to re-take on CBT....which will be much much worse. I cant do the august test this year because i'll be starting a new grad program soon....
:scared: 🙁 :scared:

I think to some extent all standardized tests are reading comprehension tests. Can you read fast? Even the physics and bio require u to read a passage and regurgitate it.

I think that test-taking strategy and sufficient practice are THE most important things for doing well on the MCAT. It's really not mainly a science or content test; the four pre-req courses are sufficient to prepare you for the content aspect of it. Those of you who are biology majors know way more bio than I do, for example, especially considering that I took biology in the 1990s. :meanie: So obviously it is not necessary to have such extensive bio knowledge. In fact, the highest scorers as a group on the MCAT tend to be humanities majors, even though they presumably have the least science background. And it may be coincidence, but it's interesting that both lorelei (who scored a 43 in April 2004) and I were double majors in physical sciences and foreign language. (She majored in engineering and German, and I did natural sciences/chemistry and Spanish.) Anecdotally, I've had a few students who were philosophy majors, and these guys are MCAT naturals. (If you've ever argued with a philosophy major, then you don't need me to explain why. 😉)

dankirsh, it is possible but very difficult to get a 45, because each section is scaled independently, so you must earn three individual 15s. As far as I know, all of the people on SDN with 40+ scores either got one 15, or none at all. Also, as far as I know, no SDN member has scored a 44 or 45 yet, or if they have, they're not telling. 😛

morriske, I swore that I wouldn't bother Dr. Julian any more. You don't want to make a liar out of me, do you??? (On second thought, don't answer that question! )

i seriously think im going crazy

This year's release has been anything but ordinary. Apparently, from what I have heard from multiple friends they will be mailing out the score reports this week...meaning you may get the paper copy before the online one...

...very strange.

I think if everyone tried to get the folks at AAMC in D.C. to release the scores (which they control), we could have scores by the end of this week.
