Official ASDOH C/O 2012 Acceptance Thread***

congrats to you all!! i'm a D1 who is more than excited to shed some light on your first week 🙂

the white coat ceremony is on a Monday, which is your first day of school. The ceremony is similar to a graduation ceremony (family and friends, students and admin are there). there will be a few speeches, then they will call each of you up, one at a time and will put your white coat on you and you'll shake hands with the VIPs. This will be a great time! ...VERY emotional for me 🙂 It's the moment that YOU'RE IN! it's great! they'll do some group photos, and then dismiss you for an hour or so. Lunch is provided every day of the first week. Monday and Tuesday were all orientation (policies, student ID pics, gym membership signups, etc...). We started Intro to Dental Anatomy on Weds 8-12 and then colored on stone casted large teeth models in the lab from 1-5. Thurs we intro to preventative dentistry and tours of the clinic. friday was another intro to analysis of dental literature. Nothing in the first week is stressful. It is pass/fail, so don't over-exert yourself, everybody does WAY over passing. In the second week, we started our first "real" class that was graded, which i think was musculoskeletal. You do have to work hard, but the profs are great!

payam...i agree! this is the one we had to get too. it seems bulky at first, but you'll get used to it 🙂

This is from 07, we won't know until March which to buy.
IT told me that it would be the X61 but the new one doesn't have a disc drive, so we will see. They wait so long because they want us to get the newest and hottest IBM available, though some just resell it in the first year anyway.
 
anybody here anything lately? when is the FAFSA deadline?
 
Didn't ASDOH send out their 3rd round acceptances already? Im surprised we haven't heard anyone talk about it yet if they have.
 
verry excited to be accepted! starting july 21- anyone in the class of 2012 looking for a female roomate? i will probably be traveling to the area to look for housing around the first of june. congratulations to all class mates! 🙂
 
I also will be a classmate! we are planning on looking for places to live the first week in june. I received info that we will be hearing from their IS dept on hooking up to their intranet system soon. but possibly other info may be unavail until first part of july. I may be able to get a copy of last years academic schedule. if i can i will post it right away. looking for a roomate- any one else looking for one?
 
Does anyone know where there is a good place to buy a house near the school? By chance does anyone know where current married students live?

what happens if we get our own laptops? is it a lot of trouble?
I don't have any problem with this laptop as long as it has a good display!
 
Man, I'm so excited to start at ASDOH. I just wish they'd send some info already! When is everyone thinking about moving down there? My lease is up in June, so I'm thinking I might go down then.

In response to this question (quoted): I emailed Nan. She told me that they had received everything from me and that I was supposed to wait. They will be sending out more information between now and March/April (this was in January when I emailed her). Hopefully we'll start hearing soon.

I know they want to wait until they have their whole class accepted, but they should at least let those of us who were accepted a while back know that more information is forthcoming, or give us a timeline or something! Anyway, that's my opinion. It is hard to make plans for my future when I only know that school starts July 21.

Someone asked me to clarify on this point:
I haven't sent in anything more than what our original letter requested. I sent in my $1,000, background check, and contract. I'll be sending my second $1,000 by May 1.
 
We are getting another packet at the end of this month, March. Including computer info.
 
And don't ask how I know...I just do.
 
Howdy Class of 2012! -- You made a great decision!

Anyways, my name is Tina and I am just wrapping up my third year of dental school at ASDOH-- and let me tell ya-- It goes VERY fast. I have had a blast. I just wanted to let ya know that I have a room for rent. I own a 3 bedroom/2.5 bath home two miles from school. My roommate (second year dental student) and myself are very relaxed and clean. Was the packet you spoke of the email with out login ID and password? I guess I was expecting a bit more. I sure wish we could get more information sooner. It is very difficult to plan for the future without knowing what my future holds! Oh well.

Last week. I spoke with another guy going to ASDOH who is attending my university. He got the same email. Contact the School if you haven't heard from them.

Don't worry, you haven't missed much. I feel like this is a case of "hurry up and wait!" While I was excited to finally get some information that might get the ball rolling for our matriculation, I set up my student login account, and--well, now I can check Mesa's weather! (Not much is available from the student portal as far as I can see--at least for now. I'm waiting for lateedmd's comments to come to fruition about a packet supposedly sent at the end of March? I don't know.

Quick! Hurry! Call ASDOH to find out about your missing email--but then Wait! 😉
 
No, it was supposed to be a packet. I was told it wold go out the end of March, so it must still be coming.
 
I did hear from a good source that there are 38 females and 28 males...that sucks.
 
I am graduating from ASDOH this year and just wanted to say that you guys have made the right choice.

As many of you have asked about housing I will offer mine. I have a 4Bd/2.5bath house, 7minutes from school. My family has loved our home over the last four years, but we have to leave Mesa due to military service. I am selling or renting this house. So if you are looking to either buy or rent a home close to school, I am offering a good deal especially to up and coming ASDOH students. PM me if you want to know more the house or have any questions about school.
 
What is everyone doing to satisfy Dr. Leibow's request that we all have 50 teeth in formaldehyde (formalin) before school starts? Is anyone encountering obstacles? How are you disinfecting the teeth?
 
I don't know if everyone knows, but a lot of information was sent to our ATSU e-mail accounts last week. It might be a good idea to check it if you're like me and haven't checked it for weeks.
 
If you give Dr. Leibow's request another read I think it says by the second year. My mom works for some oral surgeons just a block away and I already have about a hundred and will have about 300 by next year, so I could help out a few people. Just go to a dentist or surgeons office with a jar and ask if they will put the extracted teeth in it. Collect it every week.
What do you think of the laptops?
 
Hi all! I'm currently a senior at ASDOH. You're going to love it here!!

I have a house for rent or sale...it's about 15 min from campus, 3 bd, 2 bath, gated community. I'm happy to rent to a family, or roommates. It's available now, or it can wait a couple of months. I love Mesa, and I'm not leaving here (it's the house that my husband owned before we got married). I'd LOVE to rent to ASDOH student(s), and I'm definitely willing to cut a break for them. PM me if you want more information!

I just found out this morning that i got accepted into Arizona! I couldn't be more excited!
 
Anyone know what the dress code is for school or is there is one? I thought I heard business casual. Does that mean no jeans or no shorts? Collared shirts?

Also, w/ the laptops... many people say there's no pt in getting the one required by the school. But that laptop is a tablet notebook... do you actually use this feature in class or not at all? I just wonder why they require such a specific laptop w/ unique features, if most kids say it's not worth buying.
