I just sent in my finaid info. hope i'm not too late, i express mailed it. will i ever learn not to procrastinate?! :meanie:

i just express mailed mine out today too

Does anyone know if those of us on the waitlist are expected to do any financial aid forms? At some schools it seems that they encourage waitlisters to fill out the paperwork to keep things running along later.

i've give them a call tomorrow and ask... they've always been very nice when i've had questions.

It can't hurt...besides FAFSA and NeedAccess, you only have to fill out one other short form...were you sent a form on purple paper by any chance?

Nope haven't gotten anything but my waitlist letter. I have done FAFSA and indicated Case was still an option on that form. What is NeedAccess?

Thanks!
You got it 😉

*Gasp* Well that's a lot of forms. I think I will wait and see if I get in before worrying about the NeedAccess mumbojumbo. It is probably futile if you are not in need . . hence the . . need. .

I just mailed my "Please-consider-me-some-more-I-still-love-you-Case-Western" letter today 😀

Since this is the case thread, I was wondering if anyone here had been through the smep at case in the last couple of years, if so, how was your experience?

I have a question for you guys. I completed my application sometime in October, but haven't heard anything back since. Do you think this is grounds for getting my application money back? (seriously)

DOUBTFUL. sounds like you are not interested in going to case at the moment. why don't you try it?

Well, I've already received an acceptance someplace else. I'm just pretty disapointed with Case admissions. If I haven't heard from them at all, they must have lost my application (I don't know how they could have, it's all electronic), never having looked at it. If this is so, what did I pay for? I think I'm going to give them a call....

I agree with this. INterviews are over and you should have gotten at least a rejection by now. If they have not bothered to review your file, I think you are entitled to your application fee back. Although, you can confirm the status of your application at Case by checking online. I think if the screen is blank, you are entitled to your app fee.

I'm suprised you didn't call earlier in the app process to see the status. I did that only to find out they didnt get my check, and subsequently got an interview and acceptance. In any case (no pun intended), it wont hurt to ask for it back.

Has anyone got their financial aid info? Or know when we will get them? I'm waiting on Case's Financial Aid packet before making a final decision.

I called and they said that they will go out tomorrow, and so you will have it a few days after that.

so delivery of my express mailed w2/tax information was attempted today, but not made. i'm sorta bothered by this, since everything is due tomorrow... and i waived the signature requirement and everything... i just don't understand why there isn't someone at a national university picking up their mail. think i should email them tonight or just wait a day and see if tomorrow's delivery attempt is successful?

Hey everyone, just wanted to say hello! I'm pretty sure I'll be attending Case next year. One random question: I've looked over all the stuff Case sent out and there isn't anything about sending in a deposit, so we don't have to send one in to hold our spot, right? Hopefully I'm just being paranoid by worrying about this. Also, has anyone gotten their apartment for next year?

Welcome aboard! I was having doubts about deposits too (my sister is in the process of applying to dental school, and she's had to pay deposits of ~$750 everywhere...$3000 in the case of BU!) but I imagine we'll only have to pay one after may 15th, if at all.

haven't looked for an apartment yet. I'd like to get one now, but I can't afford to pay 4 months rent. if only you could find one and place it on "hold."...I think I'll probably go in June to look for/secure a place. BTW there are some links earlier in this thread to apartment websites, and there are more to be found by searching here it's a great site, although i don't think the "distance from school" feature is too accurate.
congrats and see you in august!

Hey everyone,
Will you guys accept a new comer to the thread. I am going to the dental program can anyone tell me if there is much interaction between the two schools and does anyone need a roommate. Thanks

Welcome! Yeah, i dont know if case dental and med people mix... but they should! I'll probably need a roommate if i end up at case. but i'm not gonna worry about that until a few months from now.

Are any of you guys annoyed by how little info is on the Case med home page? A lot of of the links dont work and some of the "latest news" is from 2002! I hope they're working on a new page. If they're serious about the new direction they're moving towards, a nice web page would be a great start!

(I'm talking about the med school page http://mediswww.meds.cwru.edu/ , although the admissions page could use a remake too http://mediswww.cwru.edu/admissions/index.htm )

yeah...and i wish they'd send finaid/orientation packets out so we have some new things to read! I'm sick of reading biochem! lol

Hey Case Western peeps! I just heard from a friend of mine that certain Ohio schools require you to practice in Ohio for some length of time after residency. . . is this right? And is Case Western one of them? I just sent in a letter saying I really like the school and the location to entice them to take me from the waitlist, but I don't want to lock in for a state of practice! I hope I didn't miss this info. somehow?

Sean

I know this is not true for Case (it basically has no commitment to Ohio residents anyway) and I'm pretty sure it is not true for any of the ohio schools. I have not read it anywhere. Many of the ohio schools do say, however, that a large percentage of their grads stay in Ohio. But I think that just reflects the demographics of the classes. Remember, most of the state schools have a strong preference for state residents in the first place.

Judd

I agree that the case med website is an abomination for school that prides itself on being technologically advanced. As a long-time student of the university, I recall studies being done in the early 90's which almost always put Case among the "most wired" universities in the country, and in fact it had ethernet connections in all its rooms quite a bit earlier than most.

Today, they are now among the most "wireless" universities as well. Here' s the article. Case is #4 on the list, I think.

http://www.intel.com/products/mobiletechnology/unwiredcolleges.htm

Given this, I am at a loss as to why the website is so devoid of information. I know there is TONS of content given that much of the curriculum is web-based. Unlike some other schools, however, I suppose Case simply does not make it available to the unwashed masses like us. I saw in the job listing section that the med school is looking for somebody to do web designing for the medical curriculum office (or something). So, I guess that means they intend to do something about technology, but it also means that have some ground to cover yet.

The goals set forth by Case in that long paper are admirable and far reaching. But I'm not even a student yet and I can't see any changes taking place at the med school which suggests to me that they are serious about being as progressive as they say they are. This is not to suggest that they have not (or are not) doing something in this respect. But there is preceious little news on the website to inform us of that.

In any event, as I have said I'm not even a student there yet but I have certain expectations which I think it is incumbant upon Case to advance given its fairly high ranking among the medical community. This includes, first and foremost, an indepth curriculum in public health matters, nutrition and medical ethics. It also includes the establishment of a "clinical skills" lab that students could spend the first two years learning how to do basic stuff. UC is ahead of the curve on this, and I think it's high time Case hit some big corporate donor up for a lab with the equipment we need to train us to be good clinicians.

Anyway, I went a bit far afield. Sorry.

I thought I remembered from my Case interview that the tuition is fixed for each class. ie. entering 2004 will pay $37,200 for each year, but the entering class of 2005 and so on will pay more. Is this true? I thought I heard this, and the sample budgets in the Case financial aid book would suggest it's true but I can't find any info on the case financial aid website. Also, if this is true does it apply to the University and College programs? Thanks.

yeah, its true they fix the tuition so case looks worse when you compare schools going in but you've gotta remember that the other schools will be worse $$$-wise coming out.

oh, and about hte clinical skills stuff, they just don't take the time on interview day to sit you down and blab on and on about diagnisis class....you do PD throughout year 1 and 2, and in real exam rooms in the hospital instead of a fake one with two way mirrows. also, word is that your class will be doing preceptorships throughout year 2 where you spend 1/2 day a week with a physician...pct does it already, and its supposed to be good prep for year 3

I can attest that CWRU, OSU, and MCO dont require it. So it is either wright state (which I doubt), or NEOUCOM (probably this one)

No no, that's my point. It is no longer true. Case no longer locks the tuition for four years, starting with our class. For us starting in August, tuition WILL go up each year. That's iron clad. I've called them twice on this very issue.

Glad to hear about the other stuff. Looking forward to it.

On the other hand, tuition only went up 700 bucks from last year. not bad.
