I'll be driving a 15' Budget truck from Portland, OR on the 21st. Gotta return it on the 30th. If it doesn't require service along the way, I should have use of it for a day or two once I arrive.
I'd really like to go down to Ikea in Pittsburgh to get record shelves, desks, sofa, bed, etc. (just sold most of my large junk this weekend). So, if any of you dig the minimal style, get in touch with me before I leave, maybe we can work out a field trip for getting some furniture after I arrive.

lopez - when you reach the IKEA store in pittsburgh.
Check out the scratch and dent room, down by the check out counters.
There is a room with display models and stuff - super on sale.
I got a few things that the only thing was they were put together already.
Less than half off. They even gave me the allen wrench to tear it apart to load it in my car. Example the one table I got was regularly $99 - I paid $35 for it. Then also a real nice computer desk - the one I was looking to buy anyway for half price too. I think the chair was less than half off too.
Good Luck with the move.

has anybody received any information about the master promissory note yet? case suuuuuure likes to procrastinate (which is, of course, fine if i do it, but it's totally different when they do it (i kid))

Yeah...i got an email from sallie mae about 2 weeks ago. you go to their open laureate site, open an account and your info should be listed when you go into "loan applicant".
BTW--that's for the federal loans. Private loan MPs are via your private lender.

Its probably the standard two science, one non-science minimum. The best thing to do is amass as many req's as you can for your comittee letter.
good luck!

Just a heads up...I talked to the financial aid office this morning. Apparently there was a type-o on the sheet we were supposed to send back in to them after completing step one (loan counseling). They have to have that sheet back before you get the master promissory note...so, don't hang onto it waiting in vain for the MPN to magically appear. Nice of them to let us know about that...no wonder I hadn't seen anything from Sallie Mae! 😡

damn. thanks for the info
Ya. The sheet that told you to do the loan couseling is supposed to go back. The first sentance (or something) said "I have done the on-line thingy and the MPN"exmike said:what? i dont get it. I did the loan couseling online, was i supposed to send something after that? I'm confused.
If we went with an outside lender, we shouldn't have this problem, right? My lender tells me that they have everything they need from me and that they just need Case to certify my loans. I did an online MPN with them btw.Shorti3181 said:Just a heads up...I talked to the financial aid office this morning. Yeah, I think you're sweet...the problem, I believe, is just with the people borrowing from Case.

I know someone was taken off about two weeks ago.
If anybody else is looking for housing ... I just got a charming 2-bdrm 1 bath, hardwood everything ... on overlook (20mins walking from campus) ... the best part about it, it has it's own sunroom (7x9) and library (9x12) ... and not nearly as expensive or drab as the cookie-cutter alternatives ... rent (utilities, parking, laundry, etc included) would be about $550/mo ... pm me if interested and easygoing .. cheers

Wow. That's an offer I can't refuse, especially since I dislocated my knee last week 😛
Hey, all you crazy Spartans:
I have a quick request for you all. I'm really REALLY interested in going to the new 5-year program at Cleveland Lerner next year. If any of you guys are in the program (I understand its started), can you guys give some idea of whats its like?
Also, on somewhat of a nervous premed note, can you give me a sense of how I'll fare in admissions? (3.56, 36, good EC's, good LORs, plenty of research - taking a year off for research)
Thx for your time.

I tried testing mine and got an "SMTP" error. anyone know what that is? BTW i think you have to download and install the virtual private network software in order to access webmail.
SoulRFlare said:BTW i think you have to download and install the virtual private network software in order to access webmail.
Nevermind that. I just tried it with the VPN disconnected and I was able to log in. I just can't send or receive anything.

yep, i got the smtp error too. i figure the kinks will work themselves out by the time we start school.
It worked fine for me (no SMTP error), but I am having problem connecting through VPN. It seems like the standard CASE username and password does not seem to work on VPN. Anyone have this problem??

My standard username and password worked for the VPN.
hi guys, i just got into case! i have a week to decide between georgetown and case, and i'm pretty torn. some info that i'm juggling--i'm from maryland, and gtown's about 45 minutes away. gtown has some well-publicized financial problems (even though they're not as bad as a few years ago), whereas i know case is doing well. i'm kinda blah on cleveland, but i liked it when i visited. what should i do? any input would be of MUCH help, even though i know you're probably biased 😛

I was at GU for my MS. I withdrew from GU the moment I got into Case! Cleveland isnt all that great, and DC is awesome, but you really wont have that much time to notice your surroundings anyway. GU is Honors High pass Pass Fail which creates a really competitive atmosphere, whereas Case is true P/F your first two years. Keep in mind that your preclinical grades arent very important for matching - your Step 1 matters much much more. Case is Organ Based, which I really look forward to after a year of suffering through a traditional curriculum at GU. Organ Based seems to be the wave of the future and more schools are moving in that direction. Case was the first US school to implement an organ based curriculum.
In the end Case's superior reputation and affiliation with Cleveland Clinic won me over. I think you'll have better opportunities coming out of case even though GU will offer pretty good ones as well. BTW I went to college in maryland too. I felt it was time to leave the MD/VA/DC area.
does anyone still need a roommate? i'm clean and friendly, really.

Hi,
somebody is going to have to skewl me on this whole VPN thing and the email thing? What is VPN, where do I find it? What do I do with it? Once I'm on (which I think I might be able to get on since I have been at Case for a long time) will I be able to look at cool stuff like class pages and stuff?
Also, what is all this about your "standard" login and password? For those who were not Case undergrads, where did you get "standard" logins and passwords?
Judd

The way I got my login was to look up my email address (the short email address that consists of initials and numbers--minus the ".po.cwru.edu" its also the username). Then, I went to the activation page and activated my email account--it still isn't working perfectly however.
The VPN is basically a way to access restricted Case pages from a computer outside the network (I imagine that since you are a student, you've already registered your computer and its considered "in network.") So far, I've only needed it to browse the software download center.
Unfortunately, I can't access the med school syllabus page yet (even with the VPN enabled), but you can access the Clinic syllabus page by going here and typing "guest" as your username and password (I tried that on our syllabus page--didn't work)
If anyone has figured out a way to look at our syllabus page, let us know.
Judd,
In order to access CASE network, you have to register yourself on it. If you know your student ID already, then you can register via here:
http://help.case.edu/reg/caseid/faq/caseid-4
Best yet, follow this link and in there it will tell you everything that you need to do to get your computer setup to CASE network!

Oh, here's the link to the VPN Client software
Ok, I've installed the VPN and logged into it. That seems to work OK.
two questions.
1). How does the VPN thing differ from connecting to the Case network, as Musketeer suggested I do (which I have not done).
2). now that I have VPN running, I hardly know it. Other than the gold lock in the lower right hand corner, what sort of access do I have that I did not have before? somebody give me a page that only a VPN client could get into.
Thanks
Judd

Go to this page and click on "software center" on the upper right portion of the screen.
I discovered another trick with Case email. They have an alias for your email address that uses your first and last names with @case.edu. [First name].[Last name]@case.edu is equivalent to the address with the letters and numbers @po.cwru.edu.

What is the secondary application like?
My appl. was verified and processed about long time back and I believe it should be one of the first ones to be reviewed. So hopefully I can get a head start on what it will be like.
Thanks 😎

the only notable aspect of the application was the essay, which went something like this: discuss an activity outside of medicine that has been of great interest to you. i believe the maximum length was ~3 pages.
good luck.
