*** Official CCOM Class of 2011 ***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Happy New Year everyone!
Has anyone received their CCOM email and password?

I received all of my health services stuff (imunization and physical requirements and info) Jan 4, then today I received my email and financial aid info. Ahh so much to do. Wait till you all see the immunization requirements..LOL. I have already had my 2 TB tests, only to see now that I have to have them redone...why??? because My results say negative as opposed to mm of response. Oh well hoop # 100 here I come.

Marcia

Copy That !, I got mine too although I am out of the town so I won't find out until I really get home.

got my health stuff last week but still no financial aid info.... the amount of money I am gonna have to borrow is really kinda scary... how do you even pay off that much debt after school is over???

I also received the Health Services packet, and it is rather confusing. Lots of stuff to take care of. I'm starting to realize that the hoops and paperwork won't end until we retire 🙂

I believe that's why they gave us that presentation with that nice woman with the cute accent... I think aside from some scholarships and grants if you qualify (academic & need based...), the bulk of your schooling will fall onto maxing out your federal stafford and then covering the rest with either PLUS loans (which are like 8.5 fixed APR or private which may be less APR but non-fixed...)

The packets she gave us tell us HOW... although it still remains rather overwhelming to think about 200,000+ dollars of principle debt when it's not on a house... haha. But, we're not the first to do it nor will we be the last.

They just received my initial matr agreement on the 4th (that's what it shows on interact now). So i should be getting more info in the mail soon, I'd hope. With no more interviews on the horizon, looks like I will be heading to CCOM in the fall. I got myself a navigation system so I am not overwhelmed by the Chicago highway system which is chaotic in comparison to rural pennsylvania.

I called WVSOM to make sure they knew htat I was officially withdrawing, although I already let the deadline run out for my 2k deposit.

Yea, just wait until you get here... It takes about 20 minutes for the email page to load and we get about 20 copies of everything... the least they could do is spend some of that tuition money on upgrading the servers

If anyone important is looking at this.. Buy some new equipment!!!!!

I too got the fin aid, vaccine/health, email mailings. I am now bracing to pay the $750 matriculation deposit!!! After acceptance is a long road to matriculation with all this paperwork!!!!!

Excited to meet future classmates here! All the best!🙂

Laboholic...
Did you do your undergrad at the Univ of Iowa?? just asking cause your location is in Iowa City... I went there for undergrad so maybe we know each other...

But the glory of having the acceptance letter in-hand and the matriculation agreement signed with the deposit made is that you can take your good-old time getting all that bull--- back to them. Enjoy, you're finished with ass-kissing for few months of your life 🙂

Is sending 2nd deposit online fine or do I have to send the voucher by mail too???

I called and asked the admissions office that very question. They said no...you don't have to mail the voucher.

I like this thread, but I don't usually have very much to contribute. I sent my second deposit a couple days ago.
Right now, I'm starting to think about housing (we have a dog, so we might have to look around a little bit more), when to quit my research job, and when to move to DG. Stressful stuff, but hopefully it will also be exciting!

When are you all planning on looking for a place? When will you move? Will you find a mindless job to help with expenses until the big FA check come in? I live in MN currently working in research and can't wait to move to Chicagoland!!!

Sent my deposit in, got my 1st Hep B shot. Now the waiting begins...

I sent my deposit on the 23rd via priority certified snail mail, but it hasn't gotten there yet. This is not good.

I paid my second deposit online. I wouldn't worry if they have not received your deposit yet because I believe it only has to be postmarked (not received) by the 26th.

Question-- it sounds like many posters in this thread are non-traditional students, are there any traditional students out there?

I should have paid my deposit online instead of putting my future in the hands of USPS. I'm a *****.

I guess I'm a non-trad since I'm 25 and married. I think that most CCOM students are pretty young though. You will in the norm there.

Hey, I am a traditional student. I am graduating from U of M this spring.
Is anyone else out there from Michigan?
Is anyone planning to live on campus in the dorms? (I am)

Is it the married part that makes you "non-trad?" I'm 24 & married. I think 24 is the avg age for matriculation, so you're not too far off the mark age-wise.

Did anyone else here interview on 12/4/06??

Well, I'll be 26 by the time I start school. I guess I also feel like a non-trad because I have been working full time for almost 4 years and I wasn't really pre-med while I was in college. I took most of my science classes post-bacc. Its more the post-bacc classes and not the marriage that make me feel like a non-trad.

I'm traditional... graduating from University of Illinois. I'm surprised how this thread went from a dead thread to so many posts in a day. ANyways, back to anatomy...

Supervic, Are you a bio major at UIC? If so, I bet we have been in classes together. I am very non trad because of my age, but I am just getting my degree now, not doing post bacc or second degree.

Marcia

I've gotten a packet in the mail for financial aid and immunizations... but where can we find the illinois residency status form? Thanks

I'm actually down at UIUC... but I am a MCB major 🙂 Do they have a distinction b/w MCB and IB at UIC? (whew lots of abbrevs)

Congratulations guys! See you in the fall 🙂

Remember they gave you one form to be filled out at interview??? Ya, that is the Illinois Resident Status form. So, you already submitted that. Congrats on the acceptance.

Thanks Bill. Just curious.. but why does my interact now still say that it's waiting for my Illinois resident status form?

I had the same problem. I emailed Michael Luken, Director of Admissions, who checked my file and updated my online account. By the way, the admissions is not updating the website regularly becuase they think it's not that urgent, so if some documents that you submitted are not showing up on the webstie account, don't panic.

I got into CCOM today.
Quite excited.
I have one more interview this Fri, but CCOM looks to be the place for me!
I can't wait to sit in that interview and just think, "you know what buddy, I already got in. tell me why you want me. muahahaha!" 👍
CHEERS!

I just got the acceptance phone call today! I am very excited to join the CCOM class of 2001, can't wait to meet everyone! 😀

Congrats to sdl2011 and bigdog8829!

Maybe we'll see you on July 30!

Since I just got the phone call yesterday (acutally, a voice mail), I was wondering...how much is the first deposit? Just curious so that I can start figuring out how much money I need to pull together!

I can't belive we start July 30th!!! Time is going to fly by until then!

Congrats on the acceptance! The first deposit is $250 and the second deposit is $750. It's so weird to think that we start 6 months from today!!!

Does anyone know good areas to look for off campus apartments? Trying to search for an apt is really hard for me since I don't know the area! I am looking for somewhere that is fairly easy to get to the train staion and to campus. Thanks, I appreciate any help!

So, I signed a lease on DG condo yesterday and paid the second installment of my matriculation deposit today. I’m officially broke. This is all becoming frighteningly real.

Sdl2011, I live in the Chicago area. I’m not from Downers Grove, but I started apt hunting early, so I'm kinda familiar with the town. There aren’t a lot of apartments/condos for rent near the main train station. PM me if you want more details. I’d be glad to help out.

for the CCOM interview - did they only call you guys, or do they also do interview invites via mail??

as far as rent goes - theres a really nice apt building within a half a mile of school for around 850 per month with parking. i forget the name but you guys can pm me if you want the info for it. - it's prorated rent for CCOM students. your best bet is to go on craigslist - chicago and search the housing ads
downers grove, there are some good finds on there at times.

They called me, but I was interviewed because of a cancellation, so I was called on Halloween night for the next morning.

Dr. max, whats up?
why are you ragging on my post?

Is anybody planning to purchase a condo/townhouse/house while they attend school? My husband is interested in purchasing something, but I have major reservations considering the amount of debt I'll be in from tuition. I'm also concerned about the rotations during 3rd and 4th year because they may be all over the Chicagoland area. I'm afraid to settle in the DG area for 4 years. Anybody else in the same boat?

We're kinda in the same boat. We're in Chicago and will be moving to DG in July. We've signed a lease on a condo, but still have an option to buy it anytime. We're in the process of determining what kind of loan we can qualify for…then we'll decide how to proceed. On one hand, we figure now's a good time to purchase. We're going to be shelling out >$1000/month for rent, we might as well get some benefit (tax and otherwise). Also, I'm worried about qualifying later with massive med school debt. I figure if we buy, we'll stay for 4 years of school and then relocate. However, I do share some of your financial concerns.

I've heard that many students move into the city for rotations. This doesn't make much sense to me, especially if I'll be rotating at all in the ‘burbs. It is much easier to get downtown on public transport (METRA has an express train from DG to the city…travel time is about 27 minutes). Once you get downtown, you can get anywhere in the city via train/bus. In fact, my husband will be commuting back to the city for school/work. I'd rather be based in DG, drive to the surrounding suburbs for rotations, and take public transport to the city if necessary. Driving in and out of Chicago sucks. Also, I don't want to have to move at the end of 2nd year when I'm taking boards & preparing to begin rotations. Those are my thoughts, whatever they're worth.

The facilities at KCUMB are amazing. Prob the best of the do schools i've interviewed at (DMU and CCOM and KCUMB).
Problem is that the rotations at KCUMB are not to my liking. with the lottery system and the best location, in my opinion, being detroit.
I'm from chicago and biased to this area, but the rotations really turned me off at the other schools bc they're all over the country.
I've chosen CCOM.
