Official: Countdown until October 15th, 2006 Thread!

One week-ish! I don't think this week can go by fast enough. I've been doing this whole "If the Rangers win, then I'll hear good news on the 15/16ish." It's my own little superstition, but it's usually right. I did that before the August MCAT scores came out last year, and I was right. So for every preseason game I said it for, and for the past 2 regular season games, the Rangers won, which means I should be getting good news from Tufts. Yes I know, I'm nuts.
 
How long after your interview does it usu take rolling-admissions schools to make a decision?

It'd be nice to have just one acceptance, so we could finally enter the able-to-turn-down-other-interviews status and save some $$!

Yeah I hear ya. Some schools, depending on if you had an interview early, will start telling people on Oct 15. Others (like NYU) wait until December to send out the first batch, and then do another batch in January.
 
I'm not gonna be able to sleep later this week..I can feel it.

LOL, nice. I'm the same way (but a Devils fan). The April MCAT was on the first playoff game between the Devils and Rangers (sorry to bring back bad memories) and when I got out of the test and heard the score my confidence in how I did shot up.

We can be nuts together :laugh:

Hmm.... so I'm not hte only crazy one. Actually, one of my student interviewers said he did the same thing, but with the Bruins. So maybe it's a common trait among med students. Although I gotta say, the first game of the season, they won in style. Last night against the Cryers, they won an ugly game. My mom said to me, look how hard they're trying to get you into med school. And funnily enough, when I was playing my "guessing game" during the preseason, the 2 games I didn't make a med school prediction were the 2 games they lost. I might just have to keep this up all of next week until Oct. 15 just so we get a few more W's.

And btw, last year's playoffs are not bad memories. I was happy with what they did. When everyone picks you last, and you almost get hte conference, that's doing something. And the end of game 4, when all the fans were in the Garden chanting Lets Go Rangers and gave them a standing O, even though they lost, it brought a little tear to my eye. They really were something special.
 
Anyone know anything about how GW and Tulane are going to let us know?

Hope you all get to post on it! Pritzker and GTown told me this weekend that they hate my guts! Hope you all don't get too much of that! Cuz it sucks!
 
arghhhh....this thread is probably not the right place to ask, since we are all probably thinking the same things, but i seriously can not get my mind of my first interview. they're going to send letters snail mail sometime after oct 15th but before the end of the month. i think about my interview driving, walking to class, going to sleep, in class, basically 24/7, i think about what i should have said, added etc. i really think i'm going crazy!! this was my very first interview ever and my first time applying and the idea that i'll hear from them in a week or so is not doing anything. it's like the closer it gets to the day i might hear, i think about it more and more and more. any tips of other things to think about???

i'm not thinking about the interviews...i'm thinking about when next week i could know...and what i'll do if i'm celebrating. if i were you i'd hope to find another pre-med to comiserate with, knowing that no-one else really understands (i'm in the same boat...i want to keep talking about how if the letter is being mailed this day, it'll probably get here by that day...) but no one really wants to hear that more than once, even though i keep thinking about how the day is getting closer.

:luck: and, once you know, the worrying will hopefully end...and not just move it's way to the next interview. (also, something i've been thinking about is how many of the schools accept the majority of their early interviewers...that's gotta be good for us, right?)
 
I have a question. A friend of mine is applying right now, he interviewed at EVMS already and got waitlisted. He wants to know when the waitlist starts to move. In December or late March or what?

really? is that true? i mean, i know there's a difference b/n now and like march...but i wouldn't think that we'd be that heavily favored overall. i'm just straight buggin...i'm in an smp too so buggin time is not a good thing.

if you tell me what school you're thinking about, i could probably make a case for it, but i'm making a case for my schools to myself 🙂

take mcw, i've got data from 2004 that says they interviewed 693 and accepted 486. I know that people who interview later there are interviewing for the waitlist...so, people who are interviewing earlier have awesome acceptance stats, right?

yeah, good point. i've heard my school is 50/50 overall but don't know what it would be from sept-nov vs. dec-feb. argh! i guess i should cheer up, that's the best odds i've looked at yet in this process. in retrospect i just wish i had just connected w/ my second interviewer more, and i think it was mostly my fault. hindsight is 20/20 though, and who knows maybe the tape i keep replaying in my head is distorted. if i don't get in i'll just really feel like it was the interview and i'll be so upset.

i think we remember the not so great moments in our interviews more than the moments when we said things just right and got the point across. also, i've heard many stories about people who didn't feel like they "connected" with their interviewer, and people who didn't feel like their interviewer was comprehending what they were saying, and yet their interviewer wrote great things about them. (i hear this more than the opposite) i'd guess a lack of connecting is more the interviewer's style than something you did. and if you got an interview, you're well on your way there. :luck: and i'll be looking forward to hearing you share your news (i'm hoping for good...it's good to hear someone else thinking about this like i am) when you get it 🙂

Hey, anyone receive the mysterious snail mail correspondence from Pitt yet? I know bunch of us got sent something on the 5th, but still hasn't shown up in my mail yet. Just curious if it may be an ourtight reject versus a hold.
 
So I called EVMS today and I got wait-listed. I was sort of predicting this though, so I'm actually not that bummed. The impression I got was that they really only want students who are super excited about going to EVMS and not those who are using it as a backup. I think it's a good place to be while I go on my other interviews and later in the season if I decide that EVMS is the place for me, I'll be all set to write my letters of intent that they seem to place so much weight on.

9/13. I guess some people in my group found out last week, but they hadn't made my decision yet which is why I called again this morning. I get the feeling that they have their meeting at the end of each week.

i called last wednesday i think and they said the decision wasn't ready yet.. i dont want to call!!!

They actually ask for your name too, so just knowing the AMCAS ID won't fly 😉
 
I would have to make my voice deep and pretend I was a guy too....haha...Rob, but call, you will feel better! I don't think it would be worth my calling yet...it's only been a little over a week.

haha i just called and .. NOTHING!@ lol. the hold felt like eternity (again). i asked how often they meet and she said every week but not sure when they'll meet this week!! argh. the lady was real nice though, i am still shocked that some of the people over there have been mean to other SDNers.
 
Good job finally getting up the courage to call. I can't believe how slow time is moving these days!

Hey Snowboarder! Sorry about your waitlist. I interviewed the same day you did and was also waitlisted. WHich candidate were you? Which interview room? PM me if you want to swap stories.
 
Anyone remember how/when Wake said they would contact us? I think they said something about the 18th....is that right?

What about Michigan State? I am mixing dates up in my head....I should have written them all down.....

i'm looking more at the week of the 15th (next week!!) I don't think that any of the schools I've interviewed plan on letting us know before then (mailing out letters...so we'll see how long the mail takes)
 
Ill know three schools by next wednesday. Im hoping for one acceptance!

My primary was verified early and I am receiving secondaries right now. However, I retook the MCAT on June 14th and won't get a score until July 15th.
