Holy crap Ortho, you are a type C personality? right?
I freakin go to DMU and I haven't even looked that deep into the rotation time periods. I'm pretty sure we have a lot of elective rotations especially in the 4th year. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd year can clarify this? You might be looking at the REQUIRED rotations we need to do. That is what's cool about DMU, you have a lot of freedom to "focus" your rotations in a particular area. I believe that is what the "extra" time is for. Can I get a witness?

BTW, Ortho it's a freakin Saturday night. What are you doing home posting about DMU? No life and posting on SDN on a Saturday night is reserved for medical students only. LOL!! I seriously have to meet you. 😉

LOL!! Ditto, jbone!! 😀
Actually I'm more of a B, I think!? You'd never know it b/c the application process has brought out the C in me... This is what it's come to... me looking at teeny tiny details to find that final piece of the decision-making puzzle. LOL!
My friends who have been practicing docs for 15+ years told me today they had a little trifold brochure from the school that had a few pictures and a couple of sentences to go on when they applied. Here I am on Saturday night figuring out how many weeks I'll be here, how many there.....😕 "Is it a good thing to have that much freedom, or will I be scrambling around for 2 years..." on & on.... Sometimes "less is more"... It's a sad, sad thing...

It is March 1st!
Got the new student portal stuff in the mail today, too.

Does anyone know why in Year 3 there are only 40 weeks accounted for, and in Year 4 there are only 36 weeks? What's up with that? Last time I checked, there's 52 weeks in a year...

Orthodoc,

I PM'd you with details.

Don't listen to FS-Pro.... hes a freakin "genios" with his photographic memory and all.... the rest of us people who have to wear helmets and saftey shoes (thats for you Bone Sawz) so we don't hurt our selves have to study quite a bit to just keep our heads above water....... tho I have to say it is quite manageable. I have a little girl and a wife and I study at home so I see them a lot during the day. 😴

test time.jpg If you ever need a tutor, Here is a picture of janitor99 to help you find him. He always helps me with micro ever since I glued the velcro back on his shoe.

Just another little plug for all you people new to the DMU '11 thread. My wife and I are selling our townhome. I'm a third year, so if you have any questions about DM or the school or anything, let me know.

Thanks!

I was thinking type A. So you fit right in with the rest of us. Except jammers, he's a type F. Poor guy.

Explains a lot, though...

Maybe I am a type A. The doc did tell me my bp is high now - ever since I began the application process, actually....:scared:

I got my portal stuff today, but I am having trouble logging in. Anyone else having trouble? I went to the web address and typed in the network user name and password they provided, but it denies me 🙁. If I have to, I'll wait till tomorrow.

No problems once I figured out the O in my password was an O and not a 0.
BTW, I hope we can change our password cause there's no way in heck I'm gonna remember THIS piece of jibberish!!

lol! That is what I thought too, "Can't wait until I can change my password!", but you can't change it until you get on campus, so after four months of, "o4mR...." I knew it as well as anything else, so here it is a year later, still my password!

Everyones sucks, yet everyone keeps it. "whCq". It just sticks after a while.

I love my password, it is Fluffykitten, I don't know why they gave me that password but hey, I love it.

LOL! Too funny. Yah - sounds so natural....I can see that...

Is that because you asked them to reset it so many times, that it randomly just happened to come up with that combination? It was bound to happen EVENTUALLY, wasn't it?! 😉

Does UMDNJYJMYYHJGYGYGJJJJJJJJ give you cool passwords?

So I was looking online for apartments and I really like the 3000 Grand apartments right near campus. The problem is that, online it states that pets are welcome but only cats. My girlfriend and me were dead set on having a dog , a really small dog like the size of an m&m, so I was wondering if anybody knows someone who lives there who was allowed to have a dog or knows the landlord and would be willing to allow a small dog as a pet. If it is not possible at all then we will just have to find a different place. Any recommendations?

I live in 3000 Grand and they are very strict about dogs. i remember when I first moved there seeing signs that a dog has been seen on the grounds nad there were flyers all over about it. Basically, I don't think they will let you. Sorry. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

I see...thanks! I will go and inquire the landlord about the possibility of having one anyway. I guess I will probably have to find another location.

I saw that you asked 'the masters' my type C question, jbone.
Thanks for that - nice to have you old pros lookin' out for us bewildered newbies. Or whatever it is we are, and you are and everyone is...or maybe it's just me.😕

Sorry Orthodoc, but I asked about the 3rd and 4th year rotation weeks at my interview way back in november, but Hay! If they want to give out vacation time, no complaint here. Also, to all my fellow DMUers I bought a house on the NE sode of town.

Show's you how much I pay attention to things....

Well, vacation is nice, but I'm not paying tuition for a full year then.

Feel free to give me the money then, I could use it.

No one will have to worry about me being at the top of anything in this class (except maybe age). I may have finally figured out how to post the complete 2006 match list they sent to me. See if this works.....

PS nice chart Jamers. Except I'm only mean while driving.....!??

I have not posted since I got to skool in the fall. I guess that I fell out of the SDN loop. It was fun to drop in on the DMU 2K11 Thread. Congratz to all that are going to be at DMU in the Fall. I have enjoyed the city and the school. More Later

Does anyone have the 2007 match list? I know it just came out, but it would be nice to take a glance at if its around.

Toohotinvegas,

It will be quite awhile before you are going to get to see a 2007 match list. First, only the AOA match has occured so far & only 40% of students participated in the AOA match this year. It would obviously be very premature for any school to release a match list w/out roughly 60% of their results.

The ACGME match occurs second week of March (I think?) so you aren't likely to hear anything before then. For some reason, I doubt that you will even see the 2007 match list within a month after that since DMU still has the 2005 data on their website. It seems like I.T. works a little slow around here now. M1 year we used to always get our exam results back w/in the day & usually by 1600 or so...now we are lucky to get them back the next day by 1800 👎 I can't imagine what it's going to be like in years 3 & 4. J/K of course, but seriously they really do hate on the second years.

what's up everyone. I just need to know that when I arrive in Des Moines this fall that I will have fellow XBOX 360 gamers there with me who are willing to forego large amounts of sleep/studying to jam away on Halo 3, gears of war, madden etc.....you know who you are.

What is the difference between surgery and surgery-preliminary? Is it an extra year, or simply called that at some places? I was happy to see some big names on there.

Hey everyone!! Just wondering if anyone here was accepted out of last week's interviews..8th or 9th...or anyone in the know... when will that info with be pass down to us lowly pre-acceptance wanna be DMUers???

There is only room for one hourglass in this thread life_sucker. +pissed+

It took 13 days for me.

thanks for the info...email or snail mail??

Yeah I saw that and changed it up quick...didn't want to cramp your style...anyway the hour glass was making me look at the clock way too much. 😱 Now I'm just slicing my way through the day...with much honor I might add!! 😀

Basically a preliminary surgical match means that after 1 year, they have nowhere to go. In spite of the 'big names', it's not a desirable place to land up, so I've been told. :scared:

I wouldn't say that a prelim spot isn't desirable, but it isn't ideal. The idea of doing a prelim year at a big, competitive place is to show the program how good you are. If you end up being a good resident, the hope is that you can either be bumped into a PGY-2 spot, or at the least, a categorical PGY1 spot & 'redo' your intern year.

Also, some people that match into a prelim year of something like G.Surg are in a combined sub-specialty such as plastics or ortho. That way, when the prelim surgery year is over, they head into the specialty training program. Hope this helps.

What a Great post, orthodoc. It's so neat& organized & easy to follow- definitely worth the wait. So, you've decided on DMU, I hope. I 've been trying to keep track of the issues concerning the DMU class of 2011 & saw you were deciding between 2 schools for a while. Hope to see you in Aug.!🙂

Is a fat dog heavy?? Oh yes baby, I am down...that is if you can hang with a 2nd year. 😳
I got a XBOX 360 this Christmas from my bro. Sad thing is...I've played it only twice since then. LOL! Love the grind! But when Halo 3 comes out, I might have to repeat my second year just to enjoy the master chief and all of his goodness.

But if it says specifically "preliminary", doesn't that mean it is not a linked position at all? Of course, I'm only going on what the 150 people have combined to tell me about this stuff, so that's all I can do is re-quote them all... but they tell me that while people will TRY to match into a PGY2 spot this way, it's nearly impossible since they are going to be filled by the people who did their PGY1 there the previous year but matched into the linked spot.
No?

So a PGY1 would have to drop before 2nd year in order to stay there? Can those people tansfer to other residency programs as a PGY2?

You are correct that it is more difficult to match into a PGY2 spot & probably does not happen very often. The more likely & most frequent scenario is that they take the prelim spot as a year long job interview (think The Apprentice 😀 ). They then proceed to apply to residencies again through ERAS for a PGY1 spot at the institution they are at + few others to be safe.

So a PGY1 would have to drop before 2nd year in order to stay there? Can those people tansfer to other residency programs as a PGY2?

There are a couple ways in which a prelim could become a PGY2 that I have heard & one would definitely be for a categorical to drop out of the program (which isn't all that uncommon in the surgery world b/c of the demands of the job). Another scenario would be that the program may make one less PGY1 spot for the following year, thus having the funds for an additional PGY2. I don't think the second way is very common, but I could swear that I heard of it happening a few years ago. It's probably reminiscent of the 2.9 GPA & 21 MCAT getting accepted somewhere. Does it happen often? No. Has it happened before? Sure.

2nd year or not, I have to game! 😀 This quarter I haven't been able to play my 360 much either so I can only imagine what med school will do to my game time but still, can we hook it up on campus somewhere too? I just remember at my KCUMB interview they had a big screen in one of the lobbies and students were jamming away.

The student lounge in the SEC has 2 good-sized flat screens (one on each end of the room) that would make a great place to get into some sick CTF and deathmatch games. It would have to be sometime other than over the noon hour though - lots of little kids in there with parents!

BTW count me in, I need to fine-tune my rusty Halo skillz...

How about the good old bar games? I remember foosball, but does DMU have ping pong, pool, and darts too?

Why are kids in the student lounge?

thanks for the info...email or snail mail??

You'll get an email the day they get the decision from the dean. They mail you a letter the same day.

If all is well, the subject will read "DMU offer of acceptance"
