I hate all of my classes, and all of the other grad students are in love with them lol

Dev. Biology is completely irrelevant to medical school, as we are learning a "research focused" dev biology, where we talk only about model systems (mostly sea urchins)

And the rest of my classes were never relevant to medical school and being I'm accepted I have no desire to learn any of the material.

I am under the impression that pre-requisite courses are only there to assess your problem solving ability. I'll be the first to admit that I don't love science one bit. Anyone who does is either lying or a complete utter nerd. It is very useful though.

So question- how are you staying motivated?

how are u able to take college algebra and calculus at the same time? lol...

Had a couple of good tests, and I'm still in the running so far.

Anatomy - A
Physics - A (97 on last test)
Gen Chem - A (BARELY. 89.6, actually might be a B)
Biochem - B
Med Term - A
Orgo Lab - B

Big anatomy test thursday. I have the horse by the reigns in Anatomy and phyics. Biochem and gen chem are still toss ups, and orgo lab needs some serious attention.

Hows everybody else doing? I only have 1 or 2 tests left in each class.

I can't comment about med school, but on my mcat I had questions coming right out of my dev. bio textbook.

But, yeah, I hated that classes and I don't know how I managed to pull an A in it.

I can't believe the semester is almost over. Spring registration starts next week for us.
Also I'm kicking ass in all my classes. Maybe a B in Cell Bio if I screw up the final.

I have a 79 in Chem, trying to finish with a B so I am conceding. All A's in the other classe however.

I dropped BioChem and picked up another religion class. And I failed my second devo test (after getting a B+ on the first test, go figure) which means extra pressure to do well on my remaining test/paper/final. Sucks, especially with interviews coming up. I have a solid A in everything else though.

Can I just ask why you are in College Algebra if you are in Calculus? This does not make sense to me..

Got reamed by Pelvis/Perineum Anatomy exam today. Don't know if I can pull off the 4.0 as I was borderline 93% on Anatomy going into this exam. Hoping for an A- in that class.

Otherwise, currently As in all other (3) classes with Psych Final tomorrow morning, and Histo Final on Friday.

Then break for 2 weeks... it can't come fast enough. Hello Financial Aid? I'd like a refund... I quit.

Damn man. 😳

Good luck. **** sounds crazy.

Okay I survived the first round of exams (barely). Here's where I'm sitting so far:

Anatomy - A
Quant - A
Physiology - A or A-? (86%, don't know the curve yet but it should be pretty large)
Med micro - B

I need to step up my game for med micro - it turned out to be my hardest class. Otherwise things are looking pretty good for a 4.0 this semester. Good luck to everyone else!

Update for me: thanks to a generous amount of extra credit and a 49/50 on the last exam, I'm sitting at a solid A for med micro. A 4.0 is looking pretty possible for this semester!

Welp, A- in anatomy for me. No 4.0 this quarter *le cry

Unlesss..... they throw out a question, which is probably unlikely, but never say never.

Update: I'm on my way for A's in everything except for Human Anatomy. Muscles killed me. I'd be happy with a B+ in this class. Unless my professor curves generously, I'm saying bye bye to 4.0 🙁

DrWily, aren't you in med school? if you are, and have taken anatomy in undergrad, how do you compare it to medical anatomy?

Yes, I am. I didn't take anatomy in undergrad though. Medical school is all about fast pace. We learned three parts of the body in 10 weeks which include dissection of each part. So this quarter we did: Back&Thorax, Abdomen, and Pelvis/Perineum. Back&Thorax was maybe 4 weeks, Abdomen 2 weeks, Pelvis/Perineum 3 weeks to get down almost everything in each section: Muscles/Nerves/Circulatory

A quick question,

In my class, we skip about 40-50% of little details presented in the textbook (I mean the very little details, not the concepts). Is that also true in med school? or you pretty much responsible to memorize 1270 pages of anatomical names and functions?

No, we skip some things. Mainly focus on big picture stuff. Give me an example of some things you skip and I'll let u know if we have to know that.

Here are examples I can think of,

We need to know the roman numerals of the nerves passing through certain skull foramina but we don't need to know the name of these nerves.

In muscles, we learned about all of the muscles in the arm but not the little ones in the hand.

When it comes to sensory and motor pathways, we learned about the main ones only (leminscus, spinothalamic, and pyramidal).

When we studied about the brain, we skipped the diencephalon completely (thalamus, hypothalamus, and epithalamus).

These were only example and I'm sure there are a lot more.

We do more than that based on what you are saying, but we havent done head/arms/legs yet so I can't compare to what you have for examples. It's not much more though; definitely do able.

However, anatomy is my worst subject because I loathe going to lab.

dissections are cool at first but they get old and tedious very fast.

Bumping this thread so that everybody with 4.0s can tell the world.

I did end up with a 4.0 by my university's standards (A- still 4.0). I'm amazed since I put in less than 24 hours of work outside of class total this semester.

Dev. Biology (3): A-
Applied and Environmental Micro (4): A
Biomedical Ethics (3): A
Bioinformatics (3): A
Graduate Seminar (2): S

I ended up with 3.75 this semester:

Ochem- A
Physics 2- A-
Calc- B
Soc- A
College Algebra- A

No 4.0 but I'm still happy with how I did this semester

😱 That is amazing. I put in >40 hours of work per week outside of class this semester, but I probably took an unnecessarily difficult course load so it's my own fault.

So far I have confirmed A's in 2 out of my 5 classes. My last two finals are tomorrow and one final is still being graded, so I'll hopefully know by the end of the week what my final grades are.

Good luck to everyone else who still has finals left!

Let's do this.

My schedule:

Quantitative Analysis + Lab - 4 credits
Human Anatomy + Lab - 4 credits
Systems Physiology (med school class) - 4 credits
Medical Microbiology - 3 credits
Total = 15 credits
Goal = 4.0 GPA

This will be my hardest undergrad semester, but I also expect it to be the most interesting and relevant (aside from Quant :ninja:). Good luck to everyone else shooting for 4.0's - we can do it!
My final grades are in - I got the 4.0! Definitely glad to get this grueling semester over with and end up with A's across the board. Congrats to everyone else who busted their butt to get good grades this semester. 👍

I like this thread! Can't wait to come back and tell you guys that I got that 4.0 :xf:!!!

14 credits of sci retakes and some non sci stuff + 4 hours of volunteering per week + some work (don't have all the details at hand right now) + mcat

Good luck everyone! 🙂

I'm new here so no one knows me, but might as well update that I managed the 4. Next sem will be a lot tougher though. Also, not too happy about how my mcat prep is going. Wish me luck :xf:

Virology (400 level) : A
Genetics (300 level) : A
Epidemiology (600 level) : A
Research Rotation (600 level) : A

Mission accomplished!

I finished my first quarter of a post-bacc program with a 4.0. My schedule looks pathetic compared to everyone else I'm reading about on this thread, but I'm still happy.

Virology: A
Biochemistry (1st quarter of 3-quarter series): A
Environmental Microbiology: A
Biology Seminar: A
