Congratulations, man! I actually interviewed the same day... Were you the guy who was talking about wearing shorts while in NYC? hahahaha, I'm the guy from MI. Haven't heard back from NYU yet... I hope that doesn't mean I'm not getting in!

Michigan! Glad to read a post from a familiar face. Yes - that was me. The only Minnesotan in the group. Obviously brave/stupid enough to wear shorts in the winter.

Keep your chin up. Many outcomes could happen. I will keep you in my thoughts and wish you the best!

Congrats! Super jelly of all these Temple invites I've been seeing...

Guys! I have been waiting a long, long time to make a post like this:

ACCEPTED!

School: Tufts University
Notification date: 1/17/14
Method of notification: E-Mail
Residency: OOS (PA)
AADSAS mail-out date: 2nd Batch
Application complete date: September due to my 2nd DAT score
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 20AA/21TS/20PAT/No (Second time)

This has been one heck of a journey and I can't believe that its come to an end. I'm certainly a non-traditional applicant who took a round-about way to get here due to me implementing damage control my last two years of undergrad. I have good EC's, volunteer activities, and some research. After my application was complete in September I started to receive rejections consistently through December. December 8 I got the Tufts invite and December 11 I got an NYU invite so this happened pretty quickly once the ball got rolling.

Received interview invites from OHSU, MWU-AZ, and USC all with in the last few days. IS for OHSU. Most likely only attending the OHSU interview.

Received interview invite from Marquette. Will be declining. Already sent a deposit in to UCSF.

Temple rejection via email.

^^^ good work chrism07! now go be a dentist

I've committed to Michigan. Would have liked to stay closer to home despite my Howard acceptance, but VCU hasn't even sniffed my way.

I should have applied to Maryland

Michigan is a hell of a school, congrats! I haven't heard from VCU either, so you're not alone.

Finally got my first interview at NYU!!!!

Dose anyone know about the acceptance rate after interview?

Congrats! Unfortunately, they do not touch on that during the interview but I think someone around these forums has figured that out (based on past numbers and stuff like that).

Interview invite from Upenn...

What are the chances of you attending Penn if you get in? lol
I'm already accepted back in Dec 2, but I'm most likely not attending. Especially if a particular Canadian school gets back to me lol

Has UofT sent any invitations yet??? IIRC, last year they sent invitations in early-mid February or something... Grats on UBC still!

No idea. I didn't apply to UT since my gpa is way below ave for that school. But as far as I know ubc hands out interview invites first

Rejected from Buffalo. No interview. No email either. Found out via aadsas portal. They could have emailed like they said they would in the case of a status change! How rude.

I see the Buffalo rejections are coming out. I feel mine may be coming soon.....just hoping they see my updated marks in time!

Got e-mail from Tufts on Friday for Interview. They gave me 3 date choices, Feb 3rd, 4th or 6th. I am supposed to called tomorrow between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to schedule. 10:01 a.m. I'll be requesting for the Feb 3rd date. Anybody else in the same boat? I am very nervous. I have a solid GPA, 3 years of dental assistant experience, exceptional LOR and Post-Bacc Grades, but my DAT was not good. I choked. Let's not forget my old sister attended Tufts 9 years ago. I am almost certain that played a role in getting the interview, but I don't care! Life is about politics. I only hope I get in! It would be a dream come true!

Anyways, does anybody have an tips on how to deal with Tufts? Interview questions they were asked? I hear they are very relaxed, but nonetheless, I can't stop freaking out.

Thanks

Check the interview feedback page and practice with close friends/family. Good luck! 🙂

Very nice bro. You remind me of an old forum member. Glad to see all your worries were for not.

Very impressive my friend, very impressive.

Ok everyone. It's finally time for me to share my story in hopes of motivating others to believe that it's really possible to get into dental school if you've got the will and dedication necessary. I have relied so much on other people's experiences on here and feel like its now my turn to contribute.

I don't really want to provide any specifics of my situation and what school I will be attending this fall but I will tell you this:

I am the first person in my family to graduate from college and even attempt professional school. I never really had any doubts about wanting to become a doctor, since I was reading anatomy and physiology books ever since I was 6 years old! They looked like really cool picture books to me and I loved learning all the big names! lol 🙂

I absolutely excelled throughout high school and graduated with an Enhanced Diploma. When I got to college, however, everything just kind of fell apart. A combination of having to work a lot to pay rent and having a lot of personal problems stemming from money and family issues finally got the best of me and instead of finishing college with a bang, I dragged through with a whimper. Let's just say by the time I graduated from college, I was sitting on a 2.5 science GPA and 3.0 overall GPA. Granted I went to one of the best universities in the country, I was positive that my science GPA would stop me from getting into dental school anywhere. Being naturally stubborn and extremely persistent, I was determined not to make this be the end of my dream of becoming a doctor. For the next year, I cried, I yelled, I got angry, I gained 25 pounds, and I blamed everyone and everything for my shortcomings....but I never gave up! Then one day, while incessantly googling various alternative programs and paths for people in my situation, I stumbled upon a post-bacc program that seemed almost unbelievable! It was as if this program was catered to me, since its admission criteria was for disadvantaged students who didn't have it easy growing up and had to overcome various obstacles and work harder than other people just to be able to be on par with them. Miraculously, I gained acceptance to this program and was given a second chance to prove myself. During this year long post-bacc program, I excelled in my classes and retook the DAT and scored 20's across the board, improving upwards of 5 whole points in certain sections compared to the first time I took the test 2 years ago!

Now I'm so thrilled to announce that I was invited for an interview to my dream school and based on this school's interview/acceptance ratio, I have a phenomenal chance of getting accepted. :soexcited: When I was told that I've received an interview, that moment became stamped in my mind as the best day of my life.

So my message to you all is this. We all come from different backgrounds and have had various amounts of opportunities and luxuries handed to us. I know some of you may feel resentful about this and think that its unfair, but the good news is that there are schools out there who genuinely take that into consideration and will give you an opportunity to redeem yourself. It's on you to seek out the help thats just waiting to be given to you. Don't ever give up on your dreams and always keep in mind people like me, who never thought they would have a chance, but never stopped trying nonetheless and made it happen for them. Now more than ever, I am a true believer that, "where there is a will, there is a way". I'm sorry I couldn't give more specific names of institutions and programs, but my privacy is very important to me. All I will say, however, is that my post-bacc program was through a California school. I hope that helps. 😍

********Just wanted to update everybody of the fact that I received my acceptance today from this school. Now hopefully there'll be some believers*********
