**Official Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread 2014-2015**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For all schools.... why do you think this process took so long? so you can make one template acceptance letter and just change around the school names once december 1st hits so you can guarantee a spot. Based on your acceptance letter accepting their acceptance letter, there is further review that is updated on AADSAS. Once they accept your acceptance letter accepting their acceptance letter, you are officially in dental school.

I've already sent mine.

This is the greatest thing I've seen on SDN in a long time. I am actually laughing out loud in the library right now. hahaha

Does anyone know how to write out an acceptance letter to confirm your acceptance? Like a proper format or anything?
wait we have to do this?? or is it school specific

Sending your initial deposit and any associated paperwork is usually what is required.

Good News!

Nope, still haven't been offered an interview. Up to to the 5th rejection, 9 more schools remain.
Hang in there. I applied to 18 schools. I got rejected from 5, continuing review from 1, 1 interview from UNE with no decision, and 13 silent ones. I feel your pain. My science gpa is 2.9 so I'm pretty much screwed.

will all schools be sending acceptance packages?

I've got a science GPA of 3.0 and a BCP of about 3.2. so I'm with yah there haha. I applied to twelve schools, no interviews yet but I applied pretty late in the cycle. I got an email from Marquette saying my application is on hold so I'm celebrating that little bit of ...something. It's not a rejection so its something haha.

It ain't over yet, I got two interviews with a 2.9 sGPA, no word yet either. Stay positive!

Oh I'm sorry. I probably will be too but I'm hoping! I was rejected from WVU and they have relatively low averages compared to most schools. I applied there hoping I could get an interview with their number of OOS students (looked promising) but was rejected. My first one. I would literally go to dentals school in Antartica if It meant I could be a dentist (I know many share these sentiments haha).I'm practicing to take the GRE after break and applying to masters to improve my application. Anybody else?

I'm considering it too. I graduated in May and am spending a year in a dental lab so idk if I need to. I retook both organic chemistry classes so hopefully that recalculated gpa will be enough. I don't wanna spend 80k on a SMP

I might apply to business school for a co-op MBA next year as a backup if I still don't get into dental school then. They practically pay for themselves because of the work terms, and I think having some business background is a good idea for a dentist.

Wait listed at UNLV, Columbia, NYU, USC, and UCONN. Well Columbia said that they haven't made a decision. Any suggestions?

I'm doing a masters because I'm addressing the problem which are my grades or GPA. I would love to work in a dental lab; I actually got the opportunity to work at an oral surgery lab full time as an assistant but I don't think it would work in my favor since it's my grades that are the problem :/ oh well. hoping for the best!

Ditto. I'm applying for Master's Program just in case I don't get in this year.
Zero interview invites so far so I've pretty much given up hope.
Good luck buddy!

Hey guys, so I have been rejected by UCSF, and had an interview at temple on Oct 8th. I still have not heard back from temple or 6 other schools that I applied to, which include maryland, BU, tufts, columbia, pitt, and penn. My application was sent on 22nd of august, and my recommendation letters were uploaded on Sept 16th... Any thoughts on what may be going on???

I was rejected Dec 1st without an interview from columbia, so no news may be good news, and I applied to tufts around the same time and just heard from them yesterday. It sucks, just hang in there.

Applied to 20+ schools (see signature). I had an interview at LECOM in September (rejected Dec 1), and other than my other rejections, an 'app still with committee' email from Western, and 'still want to be considered?' email from CWRU I have heard nothing from any other school. I'm really hoping for some post-December love. I will be adding an A+ for my biochem class and an A (this prof doesn't do A+) from another grad-level bio in a couple weeks for the academic update, which will bring my GPA up by .05 so that'll help a tiny bit. Plus I'll have another 200 volunteer hours but I can't add that in AADSAS.

Is there any hope left for me????

Hold my hand as we walk through this together. hahaha

I interviewed at UAB, UNC, ULSD, UTHSC (Tennessee), and UTHSC (San Antonio). I received a wait list from Louisville and have not heard from anyone else. I got rejected from two schools but I didn't even interview there so I was expecting that. UAB is my state school and my first choice so I'm a little bummed. I didn't think this week would be so depressing!

what do you think you'll be getting your Masters in? I'm still hoping to hear back from my state school and get an interview there. If not I'll be trying again this summer haha.

Man I see you everywhere. I'm always checking to see if you received more interviews. I'm so surprised! I'm rooting for you!

send a letter of interest to uab. tell them that they are your #1 choice, give them an update on what you've been doing these last 6 months.

It can totally be done! I have a 2.9 sgpa as well, lower BCP. I applied after 1 semester of my masters program. I got 4 interviews and ended up with 3 acceptances this week, the 4th one was a waitlist. Just need a decent DAT, a well rounded application, and you have to apply early! That part is so crucial.

I didn't know if maybe they don't like receiving new things from applicants? Like they're just so busy that it gets in the way or something. Do you think it would be better to email it to them or snail mail?

Thank you so much for the suggestion! I might as well give it a try!

Accepted to UoP! (on 12/1)
Waitlisted at USC and Mid-Az

Also just got an invite to interview at UCSF, so I got that going for me which is nice!

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, how did midwestern az notify you that you were on the Waitlist? I've been calling and they say a decision hasn't been made

I know this is a little late but on Monday I was accepted to 6 out of 7 that I applied to:
Iowa, Marquette, Michigan, UCLA, Case Western, and NYU

Still waiting to hear back from Harvard.

However, I just payed to reserve my spot in Michigan, so I'll be going there. Best of luck to everyone else!!!

Post-Dec Interview Invitations notified on Dec. 4th: UCSF and Michigan- both OOS, but will not be going to either
Will attend: UConn as OOS 🙂

Withdrawing Acceptances to: UF and Columbia

Joining the bandwagon here 😛 I will probably put my deposit down at Buffalo, so I'll be opening spots for y'all who want in on NYU, UNLV, and UDM!!! Honestly though, it breaks my heart a little to have to decline my spot at NYU and UNLV...I loved both of those schools, totally genuine people and beautiful facilities...but...the money's where it's at so SUNY Buffalo it is!

Accepted: Buffalo, NYU, UNLV, UDM
Waitlisted: USC
Denied w/no interview: UConn
Withdrew/Denied: Roseman, VCU
Going to interview at Pitt and UCSF😍 in January

Wait listed at UDM. Thanks for letting us know which schools you're declining! Hopefully the wait list moves!

You guys are throwing in the towel way too early. It is good to have a backup plan, but the cycle is long for most schools. Its not over till its over!

Are you in-state or out of state? I'm in-state and would really love to go to U of M!!

Is anyone else deciding between Temple Dental and Columbia?! So torn between the two schools and would love to speak to someone who could give me some advice.

I will be deciding between them... once I get into temple for Christ sake haha. But from what I got out of my Columbia interview (I interviewed with a successful alum and from the students I talked to), it is basically a place where everyone either specializes or does a GPR (like 95% of students), which is great if you want to do either of those things. My impression of Columbia was that it is didactically focused, yet easy going and not very competitive (Regarding the pass/fail thing). But basically the students there told me they don't really feel ready to go out and practice in the real world after graduation, as they don't have a required number of procedures to graduate, but rather a required number of hours spent in clinic (I could be completely and totally wrong here, that is just what I think I remember someone telling me). Also, the Alum told me that I should definitely do a GPR if I go to Columbia. But with all that being said... its COLUMBIA! Great name and when I tell people I got accepted there and am deciding between schools, they are far more impressed with Columbia than any other school, and instantly seem to become more interested in the conversation (if you care about that kind of stuff)

On the other hand, I have quite a few family members and friends who went to temple dental, and what I get from them and from my interview there, is that it basically is one of the best schools for turning you into a dental machine. As in, you can come directly out of school and be very confident with your ability to do quality work at a decently fast pace.

So for me personally, if I were to get into temple, I would go there. I am a PA resident, making it about 100 grand cheaper than Columbia. I have a close relative (temple grad) who I will be buying a practice from when/if I graduate, so I don't really need to impress my future employer with the Columbia name. And I also have no interest (yet) to specialize for various reasons. And if I don't want to specialize or do a GPR, then I would like to be as prepared for the "real world" as possible on the day I graduate. But im pretty sure a dental degree from an ivy league school has never hurt anyone.

These are just a few things I have thought about and considered, so hopefully they are of some help to you.

That was all very helpful and I'm glad to see someone else in a similar position because like you just said, once people hear the name Columbia they definitely become more interested/impressed and are always shocked to hear that I'm considering Temple over Columbia. It's extremely tough for me because I do want to specialize, and don't have a practice to take over, but at the same time, am also a PA resident so the 100 grand cheaper tuition pertains to me too. Also living expenses in NYC are incomparable to Philly. Do you believe it is possible to specialize at Temple? Does Temple also have an uncompetitive environment? (based on what you've heard bc I understand you are not a student but seem to know a lot about the program!)
