Kaiser....the most overrated hospital employed podiatry job in the profession. Used to be the gold standard now its just above working for the VA.
Never understood the kaiser obsession. They never paid well. Some bigger names worked there which I assume is half of it.

But the salary was crap in high cost of living areas.

Many prominent attendings have also left to join more lucrative and less demanding positions. It will continue to be a golden opportunity because of the terrible terrible PP offers in CA

$67/hour is probably what a kindergarten teacher makes in Orange County

I hope your plans are flexible
I'd say pretty rigid like hallux rigidus. Fresh pod school grads and young pods have loans averaging at 250K or more hence why us as 3 year surgical residency grads need that high paying salary.

Kaiser....the most overrated hospital employed podiatry job in the profession. Used to be the gold standard now its just above working for the VA.
I heard kaiser is the only system that respected podiatry sharing the table with the other surgeons. The pay seems pretty competitive too with nice benefits its just that there are gatekeeper boomer pods who won't accept anyone that is not "fellowship placebo" trained and/or know would pull the classic frat move of "who do you know here" at interviews if you make it that far. As with Cali Kaiser, the bulletin for hire has been up since like 2+ years ago so not sure if they forgot to take it down or don't want to hire out of the 1000 apps they gotta scan thru

Kaiser has like 4 round so of interviews....I made it through 2 or 3. Those cali places are SUPER expensive to live in. If you don't already have a house or family there and are buying at today's values ...good luck that 3 large won't get you much after cali taxes and student loans. Better than PP

California is great for pods. You have all these Ortho guys who grew up in Kaiser system so they are used to pods doing big stuff. They are like yeah cool, here you I have seen pods do this before .

I hate jobs that don't put actual numbers. Competitive with what? My bills? The garbage dumpster?

Best opportunities for podiatry in no particular order.
1. Practice owner/partner
2. Hospital employed
3. Ortho or MSG
… I guess VA/IHS behind these

Even if you have one of the above there is no guarantee you make over 300k though. Likely after 1-2 years you will if you get production bonuses in the top 3.

Most of the employed jobs are already taken or you are competing with pods who have more experience than you. Job market sucks though and I really feel for graduating residents in our job market and economy.

I think your best shot at getting a good paying job right off the bat is find a community hospital in a rural area and get in touch with the CMO/CEO to see if they want to create position for you. Probably works better if you have some ties to the area.
Any take on university jobs?

This guy is awesome... lists "Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery" on his profile and talks about "last associate got board numbers (RF and FF)"... yet he didn't pass ABFAS cert either part. Classic podiatry.

Classic podiatry! Credentials for thee, not for me

wait a second... did the associate from the pre-pod thread back out of the job?
I'm just doing the Lord's work on this forum. I have no skin in this game. This looks like a good gig for someone that wants to live in that area.

Some so called "ortho groups" or MSG are even paying pods less than that now because they know they can get us for cheap.

Podiatrists are simply a dime a dozen. Never in the history of surgeons have surgeons been so cheap to hire and replace. Anyone cutting on another human being to save lives (or limbs) should be valued but unfortunately we are not. They won't even pay us to take hospital call but that's another topic. That horse been beat to death.

I think he just meant to draw a comedic connection between the similarity of the pre-pod job and this job ie. that they were both $170K-ish. I'm sure someone appreciates you sharing it as I still believe its $50K higher than most jobs out there.
