Official July 11th score release countdown thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The demographic here is definitely not representative of that of the whole test taking pool. There are far more 'gunner' types here and people who are more proactive in utilizing resources such as this forum. Also think of this as a thread about penis size; guys with a large penis are far far more likely to post their measurement versus someone with average or small penis.

Never thought of it that way. No wonder women love SDN.

Got my score at exactly 1100am, 231/83 and pretty pumped! Yall are some smart and motivating people. I learned a lot from this thread and I thank ya for all the help 🙂

Hey got mine yesterday at 11 and got a
252 / 87. Why do u think my two digit was so low? was it bc of the curve? Are ppl scoring higher now? Average lately is like 224 standard dev of like 22. That's pretty ridiculous. My score doesnt feel nearly as competitive as I thought.

I honestly think you're worried about nothing.

YO. long time reader, first time poster..

Typically, i don't take anything i read on sdn at face value (yall be cray), it's just interesting sometimes to see what people are saying about things i'm worried about. whatever.

So my test experience (took step1 on 6/7/12) was awful- an actual power outage mid-second section where we had to leave the room for 30mins, plus I totally blanked on super easy questions, etc etc. I almost walked out after the second section, thinking i would just explain this by saying, "blah blah, you know, there was a lot of noise in the test center, then there was the power outage, etc etc." But i decided to hang in there and get destroyed by another 5 sections. Left the exam not knowing what hit me- totally thought i failed (not failed failed, but was pretty confident i didn't get above a 220- which to me was completely demoralizing). I had taken one formal NBME- i think it was 7- and got a 242 (i took this with 2 weeks to go, thinking i didn't wanna take another one closer to the exam, since if i did well i would be cocky going in and if i did poorly i would just be pissed, so i spent my last 2 weeks cramming and doing like 10% of UW for a second time).

Then i got my score back yesterday, and for some crazy reason it was 252/86, which was needless to say far above my radar screen post-test. Scoring above a 250 was my original goal going in to studying like 6 months ago... funny how ish turned out.

So, basically, to all those people who took it and thought they failed it miserably, maybe you didn't! the main reason i'm writing this is because i felt awful after taking my test and was searching for some post like this one for reassurance, but never found one haha. i guess its all good in the end.

all the best to those waiting on scores and waiting to take the step... SLAP THAT PIG!!

(i imagine some people may want to know what i did to prepare- so ill just write that down now:
first aid 3X, UW once thru like 70ish% avg, and then i did 10% of UW a second time, with an avg score of 94%(i remembered the answers... prob didnt help me that much), then with 3.5 weeks to go i did DIT straight through, finished with like 5 days before the exam.. didnt even get to review most of the quiz answers and dit notes i slaved through. and that was about it. also i did one bootleg practice exam like 3 weeks pre-test- NBME#2-->85% correct. and then i did NBME #7 2 weeks pre-test online and got 242. That's it. )

Dude, a 250+ and you are worried?? Look at the 2011 charting outcomes, you are more than competitive for everything. SDN is out of the ordinary, probably every 250+ in the country is accountable through this forum alone.

Haha after reading SDN I have to go back and look at that PDF to remind myself that a 253 isn't a bad score

2-digit score has been rescaled. It means absolutely nothing though, and your 3-digit score is all that matters (in other words, no two people can have the same 3-digit score and different 2-digit scores.. they're pretty much based on the same scale)

Hope ur right. Resident just told me two digit was important too. Not sure what to think.

that's because for that resident the 2 digit score had more meaning then. I think it was in the last 2 years that they rescaled the 2 digit to an absolutely meaningless score. Don't ask me why.

One kid at my school said he thought it was your percentile specific to only your test date. So, you can compare your June 7th score to other June 7th scores but not to tests on other dates. No idea if he's correct, though haha

Well honestly its too late now lol. Its over. My score is very similar to yours(250+) and I'm very pleased. I'm done letting this stupid test stress me out. Besides, the mean is a 224, you're far above that. In addition, I'm not sure how much they can get from the 2 digit score b/c I've seen the same 2 digit score that goes along with 3 digit scores within +/-2 points of my score. I have a friend is in there last year of derm residency at an Ivy league school and he told me that my score would get my foot in the door anywhere( I don't want to do derm for sure, but its on my list of possibles). He also said once you get above a certain # other things in your application matter more...( experience in your field of interest, LORs, extracurrics, etc). So don't give yourself a heart attack over something you can't change, be happy.

It's not a percentile. 260+ is 97th percentile based on NRMP data from 2011.

The 2 digit scale is a truncated 3 digit scale. You can't represent every score between 140 and 300 in a two digit form, so multiple 3 digit scores result in the same 2 digit score. Ex. 269 and 272 result in a 91. It's not a % correct or a percentile. It's a two digit scaled score, just like your other score is a three digit scaled score.

Anyway it's not reported to residencies so no one but you sees it. It's a relic of a time when certain state boards had to see a 75 to count a STEP 1 score as passing.

Checked my score today. Waited till Friday. 249 (87 2 digit score if you are keeping track of those) so a little below average. Just kidding. Absolutely ecstatic. I am pretty sure if I get hit by a semi right now I will just walk away.

Great explanation. Maybe it's been a long sleep-deprived week or something, but I get absolutely frustrated when people don't understand this lol.

you, my friend, have the ultimate willpower. but just think about how much happier/relaxed you could've been over these last two days if you had checked on wed 🙂

Similar experience to an above poster (and probably all the neurotic people out there taking Step 1). I walked out thinking I under performed. I spent the month between test and score upset at myself for choking in the moment.

In reality my score was 13 points above my best NBME. If I am honest with myself, I admit I got a bit lucky and could easily have done 10-15 points worse if I retook it a day later - and I would still have been satisfied with my score.

263/90

Good luck all.

wow

Glad I passed my comlex but wasnt expecting it to be sooo low, 450!
I got 460 and 472 on COMSAE A & B.
I am soo worried and thinking of taking USMLE as I think now I know how to study for it.

Any advice would be highly appreciated. Please help me out here..

Do I have any chance of getting good residency?

most people here will have no idea as you are posting on the USLME thread. Ask your school advisor. My guess is that if you do well on the USLME you will have a good shot...but that is easier said than done. Given that your complex score is poor, I'd imagine this will be a uphill battle. Good Luck bro.
