OFFICIAL JULY 24th PRATICE TEST SCORES THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For that person who was disappointed with their 32 on CBT 3 and it was your first one:

I took CBT 3 and scored a 25. It was my first CBT and my timing was way off. I wasn't used to the format.

Then I went:

CBT 4: 10P 12V 10B
CBT 9: 9P 10V 10B
CBT 5: 9P 10V 11B

I've gone up substantially since my first one (4-7 pts). If you go up that much, you'll be in good shape.

I am starting to freak out though. My scores are way too low, especially in PS. I would be happy with a 30 on the actual MCAT, but I wanted to get my practice test scores in the mid 30s to ensure this. What do you guys think??

Scores are good. You should of course try to work up your PS. But there should always be a cautionary rejoinder about using the AAMC to predict your exact scores. You will get a score in the range of your practice scores, but it can fluctuate more than you think. Just do your best to make sure you end up on the right side of that fluctuation 👍.

Usually, it is within 2-3 points of your practice scores isn't it? Any tips for working up my PS?

That seems like a reasonable number to me as long as you have a consistent thought process. But with the May 31st test, I feel as if all bets are off, as after all your scores also depend on how others do. So its kind of hard to predict your score to a T. But that range seems reasonable.

I would suggest going through those AAMCs that you took and looking at the questions you've gotten wrong. Identify your weak topics in PS. Then drill, drill and drill using some workbook like EK's 1001 books or TPR's Science workbook. Try your best, in your limited time, to turn your weakness into a strength, and if not that much, then just eliminating the weakness outright. It's really up to you if you want to take any more practice tests this close to the test. Lets see what others think about that.

Just thought I'd join in (I'm starting to get sort of freaking-out-ish and could use the company!)...

1st two practice tests: 26 (that really old TPR "Flowers and Silver" pratice test book before I was done with my content review)

AAMC 3 last week: 33 (10P, 11V, 12B)
AAMC 7 yesterday: 38 (13P, 13V, 12B - I practically fell off my chair when I saw this, by the way... I have so much trouble with physics in general - like, to the point of having intense trouble with pulleys, let alone fluids - that it didn't even seem possible to me... does 7 have a reputation for an easy physics section or something, by any chance?)
AAMC 5 just now: 35 (13P, 11V, 11B - kind of mystified... traditionally, bio is the only science that I'm "good" at... so I don't really get why it's become my lowest section. Perhaps it's orgo's fault? And the verbal fluctuation is a little worrisome, too...)

Ack. Me = scared. All of the May 31st horror stories are making me very nervous... especially since I need this test to compensate for my somewhat tragic science gpa.

PS - VR - BS
9 - 5 - 8 - 22 diagnostic (hadnt done phys or chem in 4+ years...)
11 - 9 - 11 - 31 Kap FL1 (2/3 through kaplan course)
14 - 10 - 12 - 36 Kap FL2
12 - 10- 15 - 37 Kap FL3
13 - 8! - 14 - 35 Kap FL4
14 - 10 - 12 - 36 Kap FL5

13 - 10 - 12 35 AAMC
13 - 10 - 11 34 AAMC

I feel like I vary so much on PS and BS, but on VR I just can't get over 10 no matter what I do...

AAMC 3 - 11 PS, 10 V, 9 BS
Kaplan 1 - 11 PS, 11 V, 9 BS
AAMC 4 - 11 PS, 10 V, 13 BS
AAMC 5 - 11 PS, 10 V, 11 BS
Kaplan 2 - 13 PS, 8 V (?!), 13 BS
Kaplan 3 - 11 PS, 12 V, 13 BS
AAMC 8 - 13 PS, 11 V, 12 BS
Kaplan 4 - 11 PS, 12 V, 13 BS
Kaplan 5 - 12 PS, 13 PS, 13 BS

Kaplan Diag: 23
Kaplan FL1: 34
Kaplan FL2: 36
Kaplan FL3: 34
Kaplan FL4: 35
Kaplan FL5: 38

TPR 8: 29 (10 9 10)

AAMC 3: 33 (13 10 10)
AAMC 8: 31 (13 8 10) <-- not sure what happened on verbal here 🙁
AAMC 6: 33 (13 10 10)
AAMC 7: 35 (13 10 12)

and i just shocked myself today with AAMC 4: 38 (13 12 13)!!!! 😀

i wish i could take the mcat tomorrow since i'm in a good mood lol, especially since everyone says AAMC4 is supposedly the hardest one. i think EK 101 Verbal has helped - at least with my speed and guessing accuracy. Either that or i just got really lucky. PS wasn't too bad. BS was strange (more comprehension, longer passages, narrow topic range) but i did good anyway

exactly one week of studying to go!

and i just shocked myself today with AAMC 4: 38 (13 12 13)!!!!

me too! except the shock factor was with AAMC 5 for me 😱

so far:

AAMC CBT 3: (32) - PS10 V10 BS12
AAMC CBT 4: (30) - PS10 V10 BS10
AAMC CBT 5: (37) - PS12 V12 BS13

omg...8 more days....

Is there anyone normal?

I mean everyone here gets 30+.

SDN is a honors MCAT society..😀

Good luck!!!

I can only imagine if the students who take the MCAT consist of people purely from this board. The curve would be something else.

AAMC 29
AAMC 29
AAMC 29
AAMC 34 (!)
AAMC 34
I feel confident, just reviewing some stuff before test day and anything 30+ will be fine with me

decicco what is your avatar? reminds me of the fountain head...

AAMC Cbt 3: 8/9/10 - 28
AAMC Cbt 6: 10/7!/10 - 27
AAMC Cbt 7: 10/9/11 - 30
AAMC Cbt 9: 12/9/12 - 33
AAMC Cbt 10: taking this Saturday

I took each practice test every Saturday since 5 weeks ago. I guess you actually can improve in a month haha. I'm just praying that my verbal will not go below 8, then I'll be freaking happy. Good luck to you all!

So I wrote earlier saying I had been having a streak of 30s.
I finally broke it!!! I just got a 31 on my practice test (AAMC 9). It was 11/11/9. Yeah, gotta bring up that bio.

I'm so happy 🙂
I wanna go over the test but I promised myself 7-8 hours of sleep per night this week.
I'm gonna study so hardcore this week, I even asked for some time off work. (I spend a lot of time at work, it's supposed to be 8 hours/day but it usually winds up being 10 hours/day with overtime and transportation.)

Sorry to ramble, I'm just happy.
I hope my grade jumps to 33 by next Sunday, and then to a 35 on the day of the test. 😉 Just kidding. I'm hoping for 30+.

damn...so i have an average of 31 on my 5 kaplan tests i have taken so far..and today i took aamc 4 and got a 27, 8ps 10vr 9bs...damn that KILLS my confidence

Let me boost it !!!

AAMC 4 is considered by many to be the hardest AAMC.

Take some more AAMCs, then judge.

Ughh.... i hope.. thanks man.

I just went through it and i still had about 5-6 DUMB mistakes...but overall i had a better percentage than any of my kaplans..

Im going to take at least 1-2 more aamc before the real thing.. but do you think that my kaplan scores were worthless as a diagnostic tool?

Well, I have not taken it yet, but from other posters, they say the real is somewhere between AAMC and Kaplan and then a little different.

I like Kaplan because it is harder and makes me think more. The curve balances it out near AAMCs usually.

Practice makes perfect. No matter what.

So, I think they serve a purpose. Just take an average on all test.

I say practice until you feel confident you can get close to your desired score and go take it!! If you were wrong, adjust, and take it again.

True, the practice is valuable no matter what.

I think im gonna take it anyway next week..i HOPE that its just i wasnt used to the test and how it was written..

Thanks for the encouraging words though

wow just took Kaplan 7. I thought the PS raped me (VR and BS werent bad, surprisingly) but i busted out a 39 (14PS, 11VR, 14BS)!!!!! 😀

i know with the curve and all it doesnt mean much. Taking the raw score and using AAMC's scale its about a 31 (~10 10 11) which is great for a tough test!

either my reviewing has seriously helped or i'm getting lucky. either way, at least i'm getting some confidence

Hello, I'm a repeat offender (33Q (12P 10V 11B)) in 2005 - paper/pencil exam). I studied for three weeks last time, and this time I had about 5 weeks. I am not done studying for bio entirely (need to study molecular bio, embryology, reproduction, and populations). But, I decided to start taking the practice tests because there's only 7 days left (give or take a few hours).

Kaplan FL 2: 14P 12V 12B (I took the old version (dunno if there's a new one to reflect the reduction in length)).

I was pretty surprised by the generous curves on this test. Definitely happy, but the passages were my type of passages, to clearly there was a bias. Now, I plan to take a test a day (two, if possible) to see what my problem areas are and to try to beat the test. I only have the old versions of all the test (I have kaplan and aamc). I'll end with the CBT3 to get a feel for the shortened nature of the exam.

(In case you care: for physical, this time I read Asimov's Understanding Physics: Electricity/Magnetism (or something like that), which was interesting. I know my mechanics well enough and this book sorta helped with getting the big picture. It was an easy read, and I think worth the effort if anyone has time to spare.)

AAMC 6: P11, V11, B10, Total = 32. I have a steady downward trend. Splendid. I think it's official, though: orgo hates me and it's mutual. Looks like that's what I'll be doing for the next few days... although for some reason I keep missing easy bio questions, too... gahhhh.

To rukh214: Not that I know the background story or anything, but... how come you don't like your 33? I mean, of course uber-high scores are always good, but I was reading one of the post-your-score threads once and most people seemed to feel that upwards of 30 is a pretty decent score!

Heh: It's true - my 33 was a good score, one I am proud of. But I had only studied for three weeks, and I felt I could do better. Also, I want to apply to top-10 and, while I know that having a high 30 is not a guarantee at all, I will feel more comfortable if my score is at or above their average. I didn't go to an ivy league school so I don't want the adcoms to discredit my gpa (or at least not dismiss it as overblown).

AAMC
4- 34
5- 32
6- 33
7- 36
8- 29
9- 33
10-31

Kaplan Diag- 26
1- 31
3- 33
5- 34

I feel like I could either get a 38 or I could get a 28, depending on some luck. Oh and I have officially not been able to bring myself to study more than 2 hours a day for the past week I dont know why. Oh well.

took aamc 5 today and got 8ps (lammmme) 11vr 11bs

So I got raped on the VR for AAMC 9...

Got an 8 :scared: because I ran out of time and guessed on the last 2 passages! Granted I got 3 phone calls in the middle but I paused. Maybe it has something to do with concentration? I guess rereading the passage also hurt me. Hope that's true. I've been getting 11 and 12's on other AAMC passages so I don't know what to make of it.

Retaking the verbal part tomorrow WITHOUT distractions! Haven't looked at the answer yet so it should be good practice.

yeah, i dunno it seems like a damn toss up for me...today my concentration wasnt there, but i did well.

i hope we can pull it all together for next week!

AAMC 4 - 32
AAMC 9 -29
AAMC 5 - 30
AAMC 6- 31

I'm hovering in the low 30s. I would be happy with a 30, but I want to allow some room for error. I was thinking at least 3 or 4 points. Now, I have finished all of my EK books, but I haven't gone back and reviewed anything. That's what I was saving this last week for. I know its not the best strategy, but its the best I could do with time constraints. There is a bunch of stuff that I just need to memorize (i.e. some physics equations, a lot of organic reactions, and hormones, etc.). I think going back and reviewing will help me more than taking more practice tests. I keep scoring about the same. I was thinking about taking a couple more practice tests though. What do you guys think??

Well, I think it depends. What are you missing your questions on? Pure knowledge or inability to SYNTHESIZE the knowledge in the passages? If it's the former, then yes, go review. If it's the latter, I'd say your best bet is to do more practice. Also from what I've heard regarding other exams recently, much more of it is passage based rather than purely knowledge.

sweet. i did good on AAMC 5 today:

11PS 12VR 13BS = 36 🙂

PS didnt seem hard. I made a few stupid mistakes and i shouldve easily had a 12 but i rushed and didnt check my work (still had like 15-20 min left). VR was usual. BS was stranger than usual

Haha, wow. I took AAMC 9 today too and got a 12PS 7VR 11BS. I'm coughing this one up to loss of concentration and energy. These passages were soooo boring and I just was not awake. I'm glad I wasn't the only one though 😛

Is anyone using energy drinks on test day? I'm planning on buying a sugar-free energy drink because something like a 7VR is ridiculous.

I'd say that it is mostly pure knowledge (or lack thereof). The stuff that I can recall I rarely miss. It is usually like an organic mechanism or something or a certain hormone I can't recall the function of. That's why I think that review will help me the most. I am definitely going to supplement the review with practice though. I actually haven't done any of the 30 Minute In-Class Exams in the EK books and I was thinking about using those and my old PR books for review.

:sigh: 12P 10V 12B - at least it's better than what i got the first time. the physical was easy - made stupid mistakes. the verbal was tough as well (i second the sentiment regarding the picasso passage, and i also hated the scheme passage. yech). biology, stupid mistakes - coulda been a 13. oh well. on to one more test (hopefully) tonight and then relaxation tomorrow = go to the city and enjoy the metropolitan museum, where i can hate picasso in person 😀.

good luck with studying!

Is anybody planning to take energy drinks on tuesday? I really want to but i'm worried by the time bio comes around i'll have nothing left in me since i don't plan on leaving the testing room until i'm finished. Maybe a powerbar?

AAMC 10 today:

14PS 10VR 11BS

PS was total luck (that one passage about anodes near the end was insane but i did some lucky guessing). VR was normal again but i couldve done better. BS i felt i couldve done better, oh well. I'll be more than happy with that score (even a few points lower) on the real thing

Good question! I thought about a red bull before the whole thing, but I dont want it to mess with my nerves... So im not sure right now.

I'm definitely bringing a sugar-free energy drink AND a power bar. My scores in VR depend on my energy level and because it's sugar-free drink it prevents a crash. It's never a bad idea to bring one just in case. You don't have to use it if you're perfectly fine. Sugar-free Rockstar works great and if you need the constant sugar, suck on a jolly rancher.

FOR THOSE OF YOU SCORING IN THE MID THIRTIES....YOU AINT SEEN NOTHN YET....

everyone says that Kaplan 10 and 11 are insane and not at all representative - very hard and very harsh curve.

most recommend not taking it especially not so close to ur test date (since its so demoralizing). I decided against them all together - i'd rather review content than have my confidence destroyed

Yea I really don't care about the score I knew it was going to be horrific. I am taking AAMC 10 tomorrow so it doesnt matter. I thought the score was actually kind of amusing.

FREAKIN FINALLY A 30!

TPR Diag 1 (4110): 15 (BS: 7 PS: 4 VR: 4)
TPR Diag 2 (4120): 21 (BS: 7 PS: 4 VR: 4)
