**Official Maryland Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread**

For those who have interviewed would you please let me know what you thought of the school/area? If you can share about the interview day structure as well I would appreciate it! Also does anyone know the chances of offer after interview?

Hey ya'll, just wanted to reach out and see if anyone in the upcoming class has any questions. I'm currently a D1 here at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and thus have been in the same shoes each of you are in right now! Below are some stats about me, and best of luck with everything!!!

P.S. I am an HPSP army recipient

Stats:
GPA: 3.3
DAT: 21
schools applied to: roughly 20
Home: San Diego, California
Extre-curriculars: a lot

Can you get instate tuition after the first year? How close would you say your class is? Any major pros/cons? Tips for interview?

1) Yes you can but typically you have to to get a butt ton of community service hours to "prove" that you plan on making this your permanent home. I do not know much about the process being that I wont be changing my residency

2) I am surprised, we are incredibly close!!! we have multiple class GroupMe's revolving around fun socials, memes, or study materials that we have all generated. Additionally each and every one of my classmates look out for each other to make sure that we're academically and mentally good with each passing week.

3) Could you clarify with the "pros/cons" question in regards to if you're asking about the school, field, etc?

4) I love what my old mentor said, which is that Treat the Interview like a date!!! Have fun with the whole experience, don't be afraid to make joke or to disagree with a statement, and always remember that it's just as important for you to love them as they love you. I would much rather get rejected to a program that I would not be happy being in then end up saddened for years to come. In regards to actual tips, be friendly with EVERYONE (you'd be amazed how far a smile and sincere compliment can take you in life) and DEFINITELY WRITE A THANK YOU LETTER. I personally made mine very personal (saying thank you and 2-3 sentences for each person that i remembered) following the interview, and I am almost positive it helped my case.

If I get an interview (doubt it'll be pre-Dec at this point), would you like to hang afterward?

Hey! Do you if it is actually true that every person that gets a secondary supplemental application gets an interview?

Thanks for all the great information!! I meant pros/cons for the school itself? Perhaps if some things stood out to you after being a part of the school.

Oh got it, in regards to the school itself (and all subsequent dental schools) the real determining factor is really the surrounding community in my opinion. Given that we are in Baltimore a LOT of our patients will have relatively bad mouths and ultimately we will get some amazing cases 3rd/4th year. Additionally university of maryland is a world renound school, so definitely getting the brownie points for prestigeness. My only complaint is more of a personal one in that I'm 2700 miles away from home, but it was DEFINITELY worthwhile for me.

Personally when deciding what school is the best for ya i think it's important to look at what factors are important in your life and always remember the #1 rule; The best school is the one you're in!!!!!

Hey don't put yourself down!!! I applied twice to the school, once in late september, and got an interview both times!!!!!! and definitely, just tell me when ya get in here champ 😛

Can't wait!!! You're amazing! <3

Anyone know how late in the cycle they send supplementals? Is it worth reaching out if we haven't received one yet?

Does anyone know how many students Maryland typically interviews each cycle?

Is there anyone who has submitted their Secondary Application in August or September, but haven't heard back from the school for an interview invite?

I submitted my secondary on 9/6/19 and still haven't heard back since. Looking at all those who were invited for an interview, it seems like the interviews were sent out for most people who submitted their supplemental by the end of August.

Any thoughts?

Based on last year's thread people received secondaries in Feb and interviewed the week after.

Have you tried contacting them? I'm currently sitting on 30days after sending my secondary and wondering what the typical wait is.

I received my interview on October 10th, and will be interviewing on November 20th.
OOS, cGPA 3.88, DAT 23AA, 21 PAT.
AADSAS verified 6/6, Maryland supplemental received and submitted on 8/9, email saying my supplemental was received on on 8/30.
Maryland was the last school to get back to me! So I think things are moving slower on their end.

Last one to get back to you? I’ve only heard from 2 of 16 so far. I applied mid-July.

No. I haven't contacted them yet because by monitoring the SDN forum, I figured that it is very likely that UMSOD is processing their secondary at a slower pace and in the chronological order of when the school received the secondary applications. In addition, in every e-mail sent out by UMSOD, they have specifically said not to contact them, so I've been holding off from contacting them.

If I do not hear back in the next two weeks, I might consider contacting them.. haha.

Has anyone received any additional interview invitation since last month?

I've submitted my supplementary application 2 months ago and haven't heard any updates.

Anyone?

Anyone know how many applicants they plan to interview this cycle and if they fill most of their seats with pre-december interviews?

the admissions staff said that they send about 700 secondaries out of ~1900 applicants. I assume they send out like 400 interviews, this could be less could be more. maybe they send out 700. its ~15 per interview session assuming they are all the same amount of people per time. and i doubt they interview every day. I am unsure about them filling seats with pre-dec interviewees. This is life so anything could happen. Decision day is the 2nd and the 16th. Good luck!

Does anyone have an idea of how many of the pre-Dec interviews get Dec acceptances?

Received an interview invite this morning! Submitted my application 6/12 and received supplemental 8/30

Does Maryland typically reply when you send thank you notes via email?

Just received my invite OOS
Application was complete on August 16
Interview date is for post December.

I also received an interview invite. I submitted my supplemental end of Aug.

For those that received interviews today, what is the date of your interview?

Interview #9
School: Maryland
Notification date: 11/22
Method of notification: Email
Residency: NJ
AADSAS mail-out date: 6/4
Application complete date: 7/13
Secondary received/completed: 8/28
GPA (science, overall): 3.48, 3.64
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 25/24/24/25/None
Interview Date: 1/15/

Also - Since this interview is pretty late and I’ll hopefully hear back from some of my other schools on Dec 2, would it be frowned upon to cancel this one? I want to keep my options open and who knows, I may really like Maryland once I visit!! Additionally, would it be bad if I deposit at another school and still attend the Maryland interview? I don’t want any of the schools to think I’m not serious about them but I just REALLY want to make sure I’m informed about all my options to make the best decision. Thank you in advance 🙂

What you are describing is essentially what all other students who receive multiple acceptances do. You are accepted to many different schools because you are a good candidate, so they know that choosing between schools is inevitable.

If you end up canceling interviews, the earlier the better it is for others because it obviously opens up an opportunity for another candidate. 🙂

For those who have interviewed, how many interview session was there? One 20 minute interview, or two 15 minutes with faculty? Or was it with student ambassadors?

If anyone can share a bit more info, it will be appreciated!

One interview session for a max of 30 mins! It was a 2 on 1 interview with one faculty member and one student
