Lol this just in... NYU Med is now ranked #3 in US News med school rankings. Last year it was #11, 8 years ago it was #32-34. Insanity!

I'm interested to see how the match list changes over the next 4-5 years since it went from top 25 to top 5 in the past 4 years.

I really really do not think the match list will change that much. I feel like there is some evil genius in the NYU Adcom/board who is gaming the US news ranking system haha. A school cannot rise 20 ranks within a couple years, it is just too drastic.

Eh. Comparing our class to the first year class they're definitely smarter/scarier. I wouldn't be surprised if they did much better than us. I gave a tour to literally just Harvard and Princeton kids a few months ago...

The dean is both dean of the med school and CEO of their health system and apparently he's very goal oriented about this. It might be gaming the system, but if you know what criteria they use in their rankings, I guess you can set goals around those parameters.

CCLCM really 'ought to do itself a favor and distinguish itself from Case Western's main program for rankings. I'm sure they would easily be a top 20/10 program.

They're somewhat merging with their fancy new med school. CCLCM is too unstable, it needs the Case umbrella to survive. Their match list when I was interviewing for med schools was all over the place with a ton of people not matching (the lerner students said that cleveland clinic just took whoever didn't match) whereas Case's match is consistently excellent. Would honestly be surprised if Case doesn't go up a ton in rankings soon.

This match list is actually insane. My college friend goes there and said that almost everyone interviewed at all the top programs and matched their first choice. She said the school emphasized fit and happiness over prestige, so tons of people ranked other programs higher than the traditional old school hopkins/mgh/nyc progs. My so called "top" east coast med school is really inbred so this list is even more impressive that people are actually picking programs that made a good impression rather than just going off of some dumb ranking.

I don't think I've seen a single bad match list from CCLCM, including their inaugural match. If Mayo Clinic can run its own independent medical school, I think the Cleveland Clinic can too.

In terms of residency, CWRU and Cleveland Clinic make a really interesting pair. I hope the hospitals/programs continue to play nice. On one end, CWRU is the more "blue collar" program with less fanfare but make no mistake that it's a top program. Cleveland Clinic's got the name, plenty of the nation's experts, etc. and is also a superb place to do residency and I think this notion of fellow-driven is overblown. I don't want to compare the two against each other and open up a can of worms so I'll just say they're both great places.

Looking through NYU's match vs. Stanford's doesn't rly feel like looking at two schools that according to USNews should now be ranked the same.

This year, USNews decreased the weight on reputation, including from residency program directors, and increased the weight on research funding. This accounts for the discrepancy in perception and the ranking.

Lol Case Western's match list is equally as impressive as CCLCM's I'd say; 11 ortho's, 8 neurosurg, 15 gen surg. etc.

Is it just me or is there a LOT of surgery on that list? Even without ob gyn seems like a lot...
