U Kentucky and Medical University of South Carolina is considered top programs for Neurology.

For my learning purposes, why is UK a top program. It is ranked 63 on Doximity? I know Doximity can overrate certain places but I’ve never seen it put a top program in the 60s. Similar with MUSC at 51.

Doximity's ranking by reputation is only good for top 10-15 programs.

U Wisconsin - Madison and Minnesota are another 2 examples of highly reputable neurology program that is ranked low on Doximity.

So while yes - UK and MUSC are not top 10-15 material by prestige - they are certainly among "most desirable" programs.

Their Neurology match was also crazy. 8 matches ALL to top programs.

Looking at this list, while Georgia did awesome, I actually thought Temple had the strongest Neuro match of the average med schools:

- Rochester: Doximity top 10; cranks out academics all over the country
- Cornell - ivy; top 15 or so
- Yale: same as Cornell
- Barnes-Jewish (WashU): elite tier, top 5-10 nationally
- NYU - tough to place, but much higher than Musc or kentucky; probably 20s on par with Sinai
- UCSD - low 20s
- Stony Brook - probably on par with MUSC has strong presence in AAN and president of AES

The only non-high end place on that list is probably Westchester.

How would you rate MUSC and UK in terms of Southeast neuro programs? Certainly very reputable academic focused programs. I would rate them just below Emory and Vanderbilt, but above other state schools like MCG, LSU, Louisville, various Florida programs, Mississippi...etc.

I wouldn't rank them over U of Florida, Miami and U of S Florida...

I agree UMiami is among top tier programs, but I would put those public Florida institutions below MUSC and UK. This is very Neurology-specific.

I know, but I was told that U of Florida neuro is on par with Miami...

By whom? Neuro people at U Florida?

I go to a school in Southeast and interviewed at almost all the neuro programs in the region. It is clear that Emory, Vanderbilt, UAB, and Miami are top tier. Then you have MUSC, UK, UNC, Cincinnati, UFlorida as reputable academic programs. The rest - so-so programs include LSU, MCG, Wake Forest, Tulane, Louisville, UCF, USF, Oschner, South Alabama, Mississippi...etc.

It is kind of a moot point to talk about tiers for Neuro since there are always more fellowship positions than residency grads. No matter where you go - you will go your fellowship specialty of choice - its just where you will go for that training. In the end of the day it does not really matter if you go to WashU or South Alabama.

Urology at Mayo, a top program, is impressive. Does anyone know what the average step score for uro is? Not interested in uro, but the data's not on matching outcomes.

Low to mid 240s.

240s sounds about right. I'm sure the cut off is higher at top institutions. I believe that gentleman scored a 258 to secure his spot at Mayo.

Looking through NYU's match vs. Stanford's doesn't rly feel like looking at two schools that according to USNews should now be ranked the same.
why y'all so offended by nyu's ranking? I thought rankings don't matter?

Best IM match of all time that I've seen from an unranked state school. MGH, Duke, BWH, Emoryx3, UABx5, Mayo, BU, OHSU, UVA, UTSW...are you kidding me? These kids must be amazing. That's nearly half the class at top programs and another 16% at decent midtiers. What's the story behind this? Does MCG do an amazing job at keeping talent in Georgia with scholarships? Is there amazing mentorship/research experience on a silver platter for each student..I doubt that because 36 applying Internal's still alot.

Which of those do you consider top programs and which are decent midtiers?
