Hey everyone...

Anyone planning to goto MCG next year? I know it's kind of early, but I'm sure there are some of you out there..

Is MCG a non-AAMC school? Non-EDP decisions won't be out for another week and a half. 🙂

MCG is an AAMC school.. I just got my decision via early decision process... Several others I know may have as well.. I understand regular decision acceptances start Nov 1..

Yo, I got accepted EDP. See you in August

hey that's cool.. Where'd you do undergrad?

I graduated from UGA in 2001 with a B.S. Biochemistry&Molecular Biology.

Anyone interviewed or been accepted lately? Any ideas on housing, etc..

DW,

Have you gotten any love from MCG yet? Interview or acceptance? Anyone else? There are still probably a lot of open slots..

I had an interview on the first of November and am anxiously checking the mailbox each day. Regular admission notices would have been started to be sent out about that same time? Can't wait to hear something!

i interviewed early november i think and got an acceptance this month. don't think i'll go though b/c I really didn't like the school. for those of you who applied ED, just wondering why? Did you really like the school or was it b/c it was just the in state school for GA residents? I've somehow gotta justify why i'm going to go into debt to go to a private school or out of state public school...just looking for feedback as to why you liked or didn't like MCG

Pillow,

I eventually choose to go the EDP route at MCG for a couple of reasons..The atmosphere is very friendly and seems to not be as competitive as others.. The faculty I have worked with have been great. The match rate is really high for a state school and you can't beat the tuition period, and that is key for almost anyone, unless you want to go into academic medicine. I decided not to apply to other private schools in the state, even though my stats were certainly more than likely good enough for those reasons.. You really need to ask yourself what you are getting for your money b/c many a resident has regrets over drowning in debt.. As far as drawbacks, I don't think Augusta is the most happening place to be but you aren't going to medschool to party anyway.. Go to Atlanta or buckhead for the weekend.. Hope this helps,

Thanks for the input Rampant. It's a tough one. I'm deciding between Emory, UAB, and MCG which are listed in order of preference (w/o regard to finances). My long term boyfriend is probably going to be in grad school in ATL (both our families are there too), and we're talking marriage and that kind of stuff, and I just don't know if I want to be far away from him again (we've been doing long distance a while). Obviously, you can't beat MCG for value, and if I weren't attached, I'm almost certain I would go there.

Anyone else?

Ah ok,

Well then of course you need to consider the family situation. In fact, I understand somewhat b/c I will be away from someone close to me for approximately a year, but we'll be together on weekends. Best of luck with your decision..

I just got acepted to MCG. I'm really gonna have a tough decision on my hands cause I've also been accepted to UVa.
Based upon my interest in program alone (not considering location, cost, etc.), I'd chose UVa hands down. But considering proximity to my family, and COST, among other things, its gonna be a tough decision. I just don't want to have a huge debt load hanging over my head, especially heading into todays managed care environment. My decision is gonna depend heavily on the FA package I get from UVa and whether or not I get a need-based scholarship from them.

Good problem to have I guess as I'm fortunate to have a choice between two fine medical schools. 🙂

Any news out of mcg lately.. Anyone know any ms1 or ms2's that are going there right now. Just Curious

ERMONTY,

When did you interview at MCG, and do you know when the adcom meets?

Thanks

PLD,

I interviewed at MCG on Nov. 15th and got my acceptance on Dec. 31st. The admissions committee meets on Thursdays. They meet long enough for each admissions comm. member to bring up ~ one candidate to the comm. The comm. reviews the candidate's file and votes to accept, reject, or waitlist. However, the order in which comm. members bring up candidates to the comm. is not based on interview order, but rather how well the comm. member liked the candidate. So they are being literal when they say on interview day that it could be the following week or it could be May before you here something. Hope this helps!🙂
