***Official NYU C/O 2012 Acceptance Thread***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
BTW, congrats everyone for getting to the 8th page.

😱...oh no, I'm such a dork for being proud of the 8th page. But am I really that uncool? 😎

hey, you took musl off the list.

Who here is a reapplicant? graduating in spring? what have you been doing for the past year?

I am a reapplicant. Graduated in '04 with a BS in Comp. Sci. then took pre-requsites, and applied last year with no luck and got lucky this year with a couple acceptances. 🙂

During the past year I've been blessed with one of the best years of my life. I went to visit VN with my entire family probably for the last time, since all my relatives are coming over in a few months. Fall '07 was an emotional roller coaster, the highs and lows of being in love. Added to that I was on a plane almost every other week for interviews. It was crazy tiring, but I got to see life outside of California, which is like WOW. 😱 I am thankful I live in California, especially Orange County. No place like home. I also got to see pretty cool concerts and partied up like I did way back in the early days of college. It has been a glorious year for me and i still have many exciting things lined up before July.. 4.20 - I am going to see Kanye West 😀😀

I am so ready for the hustle and bustle of D-school. I want to start my career already..

Oh yeah we shall go eat!!! New York street food is so good. I am not too much of a drinker..

Yes, street food is ridiculously good!

BTW, We only have 2 threads that have more posts than we do (2012 TMDSAS & 2011 Temple). Getting close to being on the top!

Congratulations to everyone who has been accepted for this fall! I am interviewing tomorrow and was wondering if anybody could give some words of wisdom. I would appreciate it!

look at sdn's interview feedback and be yourself. i think everyone would agree that it was pretty much a laid back interview. have fun and good luck.

Glad to see the list is growing!

Does anybody know how many seats are still available? I'm getting really nervous!

i dont know for sure, but i would think there are still quite a few seats still not taken. It is an expenseive school, in an expensive city and large class size, most people opt for cheaper options. Im sure people will come and go until just a few days before classes start. Just relax and do your best at interview. Like Don said, it was totally stress free.

soooo... who wants to live with me in queens?

Hey guys, congratulations to all who got accepted and are planing to attend NYUCD. I was in your shoes last year, an now i am really glad that i made the decision to attend NYU. It is a really great school where you can learn a great deal of information that you wouldn't be able to get your hands on in other schools. As you will soon realize it is so important to learn CURRENT information about dentistry and NYU is the school that will provide that for you. Besides that it is a real fun place to be even though it can get tough at times. Enjoy your time off [even if you still taking classes, it is still your rim off, trust me]. Dental School is amazing experience especially at NYUCD, and you all are going to find that out for yourselves really SOOOONNN....

Hey man, I would love to live in Queens if I can find a good place. PM me if you want to go house hunt together.

alright, i sent you a pm. any one else want to join us?

You have a link for the housing you're looking at?

im not looking at a specific place yet. i'm just looking around elmhurst and astoria. where are you thinking of living?

oh thanks for the recommendation. ill check those places out. are Elmhurst and Astoria bad neighborhoods?

no, there is nothing wrong with them. Forest hills and kew gardens are more upscale though due to more houses while Astoria and elmhurst are more urban with apartment buildings. They are not bad at all, just a different feel. i lived in astoria for a while, lots of college students live there. Between the two, i would choose astoria. It is across the river from manhatten, its an older and better known Queens neighborhood. Has a nice park, public pool, and plenty of students our age. If you want an asian neighborhood, elmhurst has a lot.

i would stay away from long island city though.

hey keving, those are nice pics you posted on our facebook grp. I almost forgot what the clinic and sim looked like. 👍

Hi everyone,

I have a question. My application for NYU is under review and I wonder how many seats are available at NYU?

Does anyone who went to interview know about the # of seats available? I applied late, and my AA is 19 and GPA 3.7, I called them last week and they said it is under review by admission committee.

They don't give that info out at the interview.

But my opinion would be that with a gpa of 3.7 you stand a good chance of still getting an interview.

Nah Astoria is not bad at all. I've been living in Astoria for almost 9 years now, since freshman in high school. Now more and more people who work/go to school in Manhattan live in Astoria and commute. Besides those people, there are a lot of Greeks and Italians living here. the rent's gotten a little more expensive these years... but in anyway, i highly recommend Astoria~!

oh, okay. astoria it is.

All this Queens talk lately is nice and all, but is anyone considering living near campus? A short walk to school would be very nice imo, considering classes start at 8. There seem to be a lot of two bedrooms for around 2300-2400. Waterside towers would be even nicer, but I don't have a co-signer. I think they only require one though.

Waterside:

One Bedroom

great view $2,650/mo.
Avail. 02/15/08
View Floorplan

Two Bedroom One Bath

city views $3,250/mo.
Avail. 02/15/08
View Floorplan

BANK!

2 Bedroom for 2300 around NYU does not exist... if there is.. please show me!! Im interested

The housing website had a few of those around 2400. Also, a few people who go to NYU on the dental forum said that Stuvesanttown had good deals, and its really close. But I'm sure some of those suck, we would have to be IN NYC to take a look.
And the waterside with two bedrooms will cost just as much as the dorms. There used to be a floorplan with three bedrooms at 4400. That is a decent deal to live in an amazing high rise.

Hellow NYU fellows,
just a question about the cost of the physical along w/ the blood lab test...did any of you guys get it done? one of my friends got it done for a total cost of $375 w/out the meningintis shot (optional), did anybody get everything done at a lower cost? if so let me know, or else I will have no choice but to spend around that much. Thanks guys.

I have a question regarding finances, I realize that it might seem kind of personal but we are all in the same boat. I haven't actually been accepted yet but I have been doing a lot of research into everythign involved with a dental education.

My question is how are you financing your dental education?

Loans from the bank? Scholarships? Parents? Govt funding?

Thanks, very interested.

100% loans, the max federal loans allowed and the rest will be private. I'll even try to take out loans to pay off my credit cards.

Eh a place around here does physicals for $85ish IIRC. As for immunizations and titers, I'm getting those free at work so I couldn't tell you.

Loans, Loans and more loans! And I have a husband with an income - so that helps. 🙂

The private loans (form banks I assume) all have interest, and the govt loans also have interest so arent any of you worried about the huge abmounts of debt you will rack up? What sort of repayment terms have you found? I recall seeing some with 20+years of repayment...

This huge long term repayment scares me. There is so much $$$ involved and so much debt I can't but help feeling nervous just at the thought of it... any thoughts?

Sorry, the list is shrinking. I received a late acceptance to my #1 school (UNLV). Enjoy NYU. There is no doubt that I will miss the opportunity to live in NY again. I LOVE THAT CITY! Good luck and see you all in the SDN graduation threads in 2012!

sorry to see you go stdmufin27. Enjoy UNLV though 👍

And so the pull out starts. Good luck to you at UNLV!🙂

The list will reduce a bit more in the coming month, I think.

How's it going guys, congrats for making it in. My buddy and I, both current D1s are looking for another roommate, preferably another male. The place is about a mile and a half away from school, so it's probably a 15-20min bus ride. Cross street is Allen and Hester. 1st st. becomes allen.
Rent is gonna be $725/mo. The apt is on the 4th floor of an old building. To be honest, it's far far from luxurious. No elevators, it's a walk up. Room is unfurnished, with closets and windows. It's definitely a fixer upper and needs some work, but we're gonna paint the place and maybe put in some new floors later on this month.
We're going to officially start paying rent in middle of april. If you're interested, pm me.
