For all of you who took the exam in May:

This is the official score release thread for the May 2007 MCAT dates. Feel free to post serious information and announcements about the impending score release. You can post your scores in here when the time comes as well.

This post also serves as a warning to remind you guys that fake threads stating "SCORES ARE UP" will give you an automatic post hold for one week.

Best of luck to everyone waiting! :luck:

PS 13
VR 10
BIO 11
P

My highest practice and exactly the same distribution on got on AAMC 7. Happy, but obviously wouldn't mind another point or so in Bio.

Is "P" considered ok?

I am unbelievably amazed at the scores!!!! I never in my dreams expected this: 40S!!!!!

PS 15
BS 14
VR 11
WS S

My goodness, on the AAMC practice tests my average was a 33 or 34, and I took all 8 of them. My highest was a 37, but that was only on one of them. This is such a shock to me, it still hasn't really hit me!!

And I'm glad to finally be posting on this thread! It feels SOOO good to finally be done with the MCAT!

Congratulations to everyone!! 🙂

And if anyone has a question about study tips, I'd be happy to share what I've learned! 🙂

Nice work! 👍 Please do post your study tips in the 30+ MCAT study tips thread. You can find the link in the MCAT goodies sticky.

PS, BS, VR: 14 across the board
Writing Sample: Q
Total Score: 42Q

I was flabbergasted. I've never scored higher than a 39 on my practice tests, and my average was ~36.5 or so. I feel like this score isn't even mine. 😀

Good Job! How did you feel about each section coming out of the exam?

90.6-93 percentile overall

To be honest, I am disappointed in my VR, PS and WS sample score. I only took AAMC 7-9 but at my worst I got a 12 PS and 11 VR, plus I felt I wrote very well for these particular prompts. The other problem I have with my PS score is that I am a mechanical engineer major so I expected to ace every physics question on the test. My only guess is that I screwed up on the inorganic chem questions.

I also always staked my claim on being very good at VR type stuff, but I do remember the passages being very esoteric so maybe that screwed my score.

As far as the WS, I guess I always tended too write poorly as far as people are concerned. I guess I write too much like and engineer and a Scottdman (too much brevity for most graders).

All in all I can't complain too much so I will accept the score I have, no retake on my part. Still would have liked to have done better in PS, VR and especially in the WS.

Still, from what I have learned most schools don't even look at WS except for as a tiebreaker so I think I can at least expect to get into a state school.

GREAT job. Why do you feel this happened? Were the topics on the exam, namely PS ones you were more familiar with?

That is an amazing score!!

Congratulations! I was averaging 32-33 on my AAMC's too...so, hopefully when my 5/25 scores come out, I will be as happy as you

41S Baby!

13/13/15/S (phys,verb,bio,writing)

2 pts higher than my highest practice test and I did the best on the section I was worried about most.

11 PS

WS O

Boo I got an O on the writing saple but I know it's because I didn't finish writing. I am pretty satisfied with teh rest of the score though YAY I don't have to take it again!!😀

Who knew that the essay section would be my best showing? I barely practiced it at all.

Please note, all you non-trads, the I took Physics and OChem over ten years ago. I learned all of that info solely from EK and Kaplan. I did take gen chem again, and I thought that really helped a lot. I also took Genetics, Cell Biology and Physiology which really helped me prep for Biology.

My practice tests ranged from 30-35, with most of them seeming to be around the 32 that I actually received.

I recieved my scores yesterday:

L!?!? 😕 I'm quite certain that there is a mistake in the scoring. Anyone else out there experience the same thing with the May 16 MCAT?

I had invested a good amount of time preparing for the essay. My Kaplan instructor graded several of my essays and I never recieved less than a 4.

I wouldn't worry about it. Your MCAT score is awesome, despite your WS score. My understanding is that most adcom members don't put a lot of weight on it. Just write good essays. I think you'll be fine.

GREAT job. Why do you feel this happened? Were the topics on the exam, namely PS ones you were more familiar with?

Yes, I was familiar with the PS topics, and I'm a biomedical engineering major, so I knew that would be a strong section...but I was definitely averaging 12's on almost all my tests for PS, so I was really surprised at the 15. There are always some questions that have to be guessed, and I suppose that the ones I guessed, I guessed well. This test also seemed to test more of the fundamental concepts, like Newton's Laws, etc.

After coming out of the MCAT, I just felt relieved to have finished it. I didn't think I had done a much better job than the 33-34's I would average on my AAMC's. So I was incredibly surprised at the 40S. And another important thing is to stay calm and confident during the real MCAT.

I hope that other people have the same experiences!! It's true in many cases that actual MCAT scores are higher than the practice ones! 🙂 Good luck to all!

been a long time lurker here, but just got my results

Total: 33R
PS: 13
VR: 9
BS: 11

a bit disappointed with verbal but it's always been my weakest section.. overall happy and relieved!

congrats and good luck to all!

Lurker here but finally glad it is over.

I know this doesn't look like much next to the 40,41, and 42 but were are not all little dugey howsers.

Never give up!
My Kaplan diagnostic was a 16 overall
My first MCAT was a 27 (10P/7V/10B) august 06🙁

My new MCAT is 33 (11/11/11) may 16🙂

I don't think it had anything to do with paper vs. CBT

Good luck I hope to meet some of you in medical school:luck:

Nice job. 👍 You don't need a score over 40 to get into med school. Very few people get scores like those; the SDN sample is not at all representative. Best of luck to you from a fellow Floridian. 🙂

I'm glad to hear that most people think the WS score is not too important. Other than the M, I am pleased.

34Q I must admit I was hoping for another point or two in Verbal but I definately can't complain. Anyone who doesn't have to re-take the exam is in a good place.

Best of luck with the admissions process.

Congratulations to everyone on your scores!!! They sound amazing! I wasn't so lucky as you guys......I have no idea what happened....
21N.....7s across the board....

I'm so glad that studying every day for 7 months, taking 15 full length exams, and consistently making 27s and 28s payed off so well. That's only one more point than my KAPLAN diagnostic. I didn't think this was even possible to score that low....Oh well, re-taking in August.

Keep trying. If you got a 20 on your first diag then it is definitely possible to do much better then you did. I have found that most people max out at anywhere from 12-15 points higher then their first diag when they put their all into it. don't rush it either. If you feel you are not ready in august then take the 6 month plan and study and practice until you know everything cold and I think you'll do better. I think a 28 or 29 is not out of reach if you just reassess what might have gone wrong.

Agreed 33 is more then enough. There was a girl a few years ago who got into Hopkins and Umich w/full scholarship with that score and exact same breakdown numerically.

So 33 is definitely a good score.

For fl. schools if the rest of your stats and ECs and everything else is solid you'll most likely fair well in the admissions process.

You know one of the girls I talk with on here got a 40 or 41 on her MCAT last year and the day she got out of the test she was saying on here that she was crying so badly cuz she thought she failed it and she had the surprise of her life and that her real score was higher then any practice test she took.

Things always have a strange way of working out even when you feel like you totally bombed the test.

Congrats on doing so well. I find that a lot of engineers do the best on MCAT or at least get 28 at the lowest but more often then not break 30 easily because of the conceptual nature and problem solving skills they learn through engineering courses prepares them well. On the other end of things, a lot of engineers also tend to be in the top tier of test takers too so that also contributes to their higher scores so I'm not surprised in the least that you did well. Congrats and good luck with the admissions process.

You did good and dont need to worry about WS unless you are in Canada. Write good essays on AMCAS and Secondaries and you'll be fine.

So I am thrilled... the highest I had made on a practice beforehand was 30, with 10-11 on PS and BS...Maybe the graders made a mistake, if anyone is looking for their scores let me know.

Your application looks very very very very very impressive. Where are you appying to besides Tx schools? I think you have a shot at some of the top tier schools.

I received an "N" on the 5/16/07 essay. In two prior MCATs, I scored a "Q" on each one. With this last test, I had plenty of time, wrote what I felt were two fine essays that were arranged logically and covered all of the salient points. Also, I had plenty of time to proof them. I was fairly confident they would receive at least a Q but, somewhat unbelievably, they received an N. Go figure. The adcoms seem to ignore the essay score anyway.

I'm in the same boat as you! I also did well on practice writing samples. I had them graded by two different professional editors that had experience with MCAT grading and always received good scores. On the MCAT, however, I got a 34L. I am very confident, like you are, that the L is incorrect. I looked at the AAMC website to see how the essays are graded. One must use incoherent sentences, not answer the questions properly, and have multiple errors in punctuation, syntax, and grammar to receive an L. Basically, I would be incapable of writing this paragraph if I deserved an L. Are you getting a regrade?

Ugh, threads like these really make want to punch anyone who got a 32+ and is wondering, "Should I retake????????? I got a 36P but the ADCOMs might not like my 10VR and the P! Damn that writing sample!"

Amen to above.

Hey everyone, I'm new so I haven't really posted much, but I really need some advice. I completely bombed the VR... got the same as my diagnostic. I have no idea how this happened. 🙁 I signed up for a retake on August 20, but do you think that's too late and how much will that affect my chances at a good school? My scores are:

PS 11
VR 06
BS 14
------
31P

Any input would be fantastic!!! 🙁

don't feel bad, i got a 6 on my VR and an R on my writing.....what does that mean, i can write but not read?

11V,12PS,12BS - 35-O

I am fairly happy with the score. Its funny how it works. The week before I got my score I would have been thrilled with anything above a 32. Now that I have a score all I can think about it "you could have done better." I think anyone complaining about a 30+ score should think back to before they knew what they had and ask if they would have been happy then with the score they got. Most would probably answer yes...

I know everyone says the writing sample doesn't matter, so that makes me feel better. I was actually shooting for an O because I figured thats about as neutral as it gets and I didn't prep a single bit for the essays.

I'm another "non-traditional" and found that the classes I decided to take before the mCAT were really helpful. I took molecular biology, cell physiology, and the second semester of organic chemistry. I haven't been in school in almost 4 years and haven't taken my basic biology/chemistry classes in about 7 years.

My diagnostic a while back for Kaplan was a 26, but it was a 14V, 6PS, 8BS. So my verbal went down a good bit but I brought everything else up.
I didn't do any verbal practicing and just took it for granted, so I'm sure that hurt me.

Ah well, all in all, I'm certainly happy. I'm trying to go to LSU - New Orleans and a 35 is a lock.

Hey all! I took the MCAT on May 25th and I was wondering if when you log in to check your score, is there any history record showing that you took the exam or that your score is pending? I am getting anxious about score release and all sorts of thoughts are going through my head...what if my score didn't register???

Nope, it will say "no scores" until they upload them Wednesday. Good luck!
