For all of you who took the exam in May:

This is the official score release thread for the May 2007 MCAT dates. Feel free to post serious information and announcements about the impending score release. You can post your scores in here when the time comes as well.

This post also serves as a warning to remind you guys that fake threads stating "SCORES ARE UP" will give you an automatic post hold for one week.

Best of luck to everyone waiting! :luck:

F*#&. I mean. Yeah. Whatever. I got that 30, but I was absolutely right about PS. Got an 8. And knew I did well on VR, got a 12. But I really thought I nailed BS, and got a 10. I never really practiced for writing and I got an S. woo.

So:

30S - 8 PS 12 VR 10 BS

My average score was a 30. My range for PS was 8-10, range for VR was 10-12 and range for BS was 9-11. ARGH. I was really really really hoping to get my high score, a 32. I know I shouldn't be upset. I'd be massively upset if I got below a 30. But I was really hoping for either a 30 with no lower than a 9 in any one section, or if I got an 8 in PS, that I got at least a 32. Guess I can kiss any shot at Northwestern or Chicago goodbye. And why bother filling out apps for Cornell, NYU or a number of other schools at this point? Ok, someone give me a good hard kick and tell me to stop moping.

My other stats and relevant data are in my mdapps profile below.

I'd still apply to some of your reaches if your ECs are great. I have known people both on SDN and in real life to get in schools like Cornell, UChicago, and Upenn with a 30 or 31 MCAT score.

so I went up but I am not sure to be happy or not...I don;t know if this will get me into Umich or not but:

April 7th exam: 9 PS 11 VR 9 BS for a 29R

June 15th exam: 10 PS 11VR 10BS for a 31R

**I just wanted to add that I am extremely happy that I improved and that I know I can get in somewhere, but I just really wanted UMich because it is the best option for my family!!** No complaining from me!!

Dude congrats with the score and improvement... its very consistent throughout. As a Michigan native, good luck applying to UMich! Go Blue! 🙂

38N !

I am extremely happy! A little surprised, my highest subsection on the practice tests was always in the physical sciences, but who cares? Never practiced writing so I am not shocked 😀.

KRACKEM WITH A K! (With a little bit of princeton review hyperlearning)

But I don't think that Northwestern has ever taken a non-urm with an 8 in any section. At least per mdapps. SIGH. Should I consider retaking? I'm thinking no, because it could go down, but it's killing me. I would have been SOOOOO happy if I'd gotten a 9 11 10 breakdown instead of an 8 12 10 breakdown.

I wanted a 35, but I'll take what I got.
PS: 12

Give us some more information. What is your GPA, what are your ECs like, what is your home state, and what are your future goals: academic medicine or to become a clinician..i.e. MD/PhD or straight MD.

GPA-3.7 (I attend mini-Ivy)

I have like a million emotions running through me right now! My highest practice score was a 31 on CBT 10!

I didn't have faith in my scores prior to today (I got a 28 in April 05) so I only looked at less competitive schools. I guess I should re-frame my thinking.

I haven't been a very active poster, but I definitely used everyones thoughts and suggestions, so THANK YOU to everyone on this site!

Alright, I was always inspired by stories that showed persistence and improvement. I'm glad mine's over.

Good luck to everyone.

What do people think about the N? Will that be a major issue? The breakdown was 11, 11, 15 BS

Dude, that's a ridiculous score. Don't worry about the N. At most it will be a question in passing towards the end of an interview.

PS- 8
VR- 10
BS- 9
Total: 27Q

Not great, but with two in-state public schools that don't have high MCAT averages, I don't feel too bad. Plus my GPA and other credentials should be pretty solid. It's just too bad I couldn't break 30, I would have felt much better.

I have a friend out at USF who had the same numerical score with a similar breakdown. She ended up deciding not to retake especially since she took it in August of last year when there were only 2 administrations a year. She applied and got into two med schools in Fl. including her top choice. Like you she had a high GPA and good EC profile. So yeah I agree with you. You have a shot. Good luck

MDapps should never be used for data and as a resource to who's getting accepted where. It is only good insofar that you use it to see the progress of those who you know on SDN that keep it in their signatures.

Oh I am SOO HAPPY. I feel so blessed right now!

I'm really shocked about verbal too, I was averaging around a 7-8.
I was averaging around 11-12 for Bio though, but hey I am NOT going to complain 🙂

Put that way I wouldn't retake as I think you have a shot somewhere though maybe not Harvard.

Hello people!!!
I'm new posting in this forum but a long time prowler.
Just got my score back
June 2007
PS 14
VR 9
WS P
BS 13

I have a bittersweet feeling in my mouth still. Happy but concerned since this score is equal to the first FL I took and I also went down on verbal from my previous exam:
August 2003 (no longer valid)
PS 12
VR 10
WS P
BS 12
Total 34P
Moreover, my average for practice tests was around 39-40 but I knew I had three questions wrong for sure in both PS and BS. I guess the exam scoring is also a crapshoot just like the whole application process.
I hope you all have a great application process.
👍

Wow...I couldn't be happier:

PS 15 (!)

Total: 38Q!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍

My highest practice test was a 37 on AAMC 5, so this is just totally totally awesome.

Hooray! 😀

Congrats all who are done with this terrible part of the process! 👍

Honestly I was hoping for more like a 12 in PS since I was hitting that on practice tests, but hey beggars can't be choosers, I'll take it, I mean I guess who wouldn't want the highest score possible 🙂.

Verbal Reasoning (VR): 10 Percentile Range: 69.1 - 82.5
Physical Sciences (PS): 15 Percentile Range: 99.8 - 99.9
Writing Sample (WS): S Percentile Range: 96.9 - 99.6
Biological Sciences(BS): 13 Percentile Range: 94.6 - 98.3
Total Score: 38S Percentile Range: 98 - 98.8
Test Format: Computer-Based

still in absolute disbelief 😱...my highest score on AAMC was a 38, but my avg. was around 35...i was just hoping i got over a 33...this makes me so much more enthusiastic about applying now...wish everyone the best with their scores! 👍

also, i didnt take any of my bio/chem prereqs from a 4 yr college...got them all from AP's...i wasn't pre-med in college either..just eng'ring...i came back and just took the upper division prereqs at a community college and 2 classes at a 4 yr...would my MCAT score justify this or are they pretty strict about taking the classes again?

I would contact individual schools of interest and see what they say. However, I think your MCAT score will definitely help a lot.

Physical Science: 8
Verbal: 9
Bio: 11
Writing: Q

Total 28Q

My physical science section in practice exams was my best section and was always closer to 12 (I was one point a way from a 13 in AAMC #8). After a tearful discussion with my adviser today, I decided that I am going to retake, because this is 5 points lower than my highest practice test. I was a gen chem TA, and had the highest grade in my physics class (my physics prof. let me know), so the 8 in Physical Science was a huge shock.

thanks!...hopefully they don't give me some cookie-cutter response..then i'll just have to find out the hard way by filling out their tiresome secondaries!

Congrats Delilah! 👍 ...good to see other happy ppl in here...it's time for us to all party :hardy:

PS: 13
VR: 12
BS: 10
Writing: R
Overall: 35 R

The breakdown is no big surprise, though I felt like I performed a lot worse than I actually did (phew! practice tests don't lie!). I felt OK all the way through the test until the Bio section which I thought I bombed (I have never scored below a 12 in BS throughout all the AAMC's and Kaplan's). My practice scores have been 35-36ish, so this is right on par...just with a slightly different distribution.

How do I feel? Relieved and HAPPY its over...and a little upset at the BS score. I know I shouldnt' be, but I just feel like it doesn't overall reflect my abilities. The VR score was a blessing though, so I won't complain 😀

I realy need some input...

3.88 GPA (3.82 BCPM) in Honors program. Just got the MCAT results today: 30 O (9-10-11), and not too happy because I was getting 11 + on the sciences consistently.

I am an immigrant from Eastern Europe, came here 5 yrs ago. Graduating from Ohio State in 3 yrs with mol gen b.s.

As for EC's... A little over 6 months hospital volunteering, 50+ hrs shadowing a surgeon and an anesthesiologist, cancer research, mentoring foreign kids, 3-month diversity and leadeship program, recently started working as a medical interpreter.

Ohio State's med school is now #31. I don't know what my chances are.

Pretty PLEASE, I need some input.🙄

Don't want to go to a below 50 school.

If you are an Ohio State resident I would think you have a shot. What are their averages?? I think your numbers are solid. Your ECs seem a bit weak though not bad. I would apply broadly and not base everything on rankings. I think the only real bearing rankings has is the top 30 or maybe top 20 schools at that. Going to number 50 vs. number 125 however doesn't make a big difference.

As someone who is in med school now...don't worry as much about the rankings...schools can bounce in and out of the "50" a lot faster than you might think, so basing your school choice on the USN&WR ranking is...rather foolish. Instead, focus on what you want to do as a specialty if you know it or what you want to get out of your education...and let it go from there. Your Step 1 score is going to be a much bigger determinant of where you go for residency than your school name...honestly.

Good luck and try not to be swayed by "somewhat" subjective things like rank...keep in mind what is more arbitrary (rankings) and more in your control (your step 1,2,3 scores, research and year3/4 letters).

Thanks, guys.
I know my EC's are a bit weak, but they only from 2 yrs of undergrad. I'm paying for school myself, so I want to save some 10K and graduate in 3 yrs.

As for rankings... I just want a good area to live in, can't stand small towns.

I really want to go to Ohio State... Not ready to move again.

Yeah there are a lot of unranked schools that are in good big cities too though. 😉

That said, I think you'll be fine. Just apply broadly and keep updating them with anything new in relation to ECs.

Hey, are you an Ohio resident by any chance? OSU gives preference to Ohio residents so if you are one, then you have some leverage. OSU has an extremely high gpa average(3.8) while a good MCAT (33) average. Your GPA is excellent while your MCAT is good, too. I believe OSU would at least give you an interview so you would just have to convince them there. Also, look into cincinnati (good school) which you would be competitive for.

I am an Ohio resident. I would be perfectly fine with OSU. I heard Cinci places more emphasis on MCAT and less on GPA.

Really thinking about retaking next Winter/Spring, taking a year off after undergrad to work somewhere and save some money for med school. I guess more EC's would help, too.
