I got my housing contract as well. I got a townhouse for Sep 15th.
Does anybody know if we could see the apartments before we move in, so we know what kind of furniture to buy??
 
Hey, so where is everyone thinking of staying? Student housing (Weyburn) or outside housing? Also, is anyone thinking of living outside of westwood?
 
Ok so here's some info I found out running around today at school for all those living at Weyburn next year like me... First off there are two general move in dates September 1st and September 15th...next your roommates will be assigned based off the preferences that you stated when you filled for housing (time to sleep, loud music, etc.). The thing that sucks is that there is no preference for putting dental students together in rooms with one another, so chances are that your roommate will not be a dental student, but rather another graduate student attending UCLA. The only way to really guarantee being with another dental student is to specifically request to be with that individual by filling out an update here...

So I guess we need to start shacking up with one another if we want to struggle through the first two years of school not only as classmates, but roommates as well. I for one will be in a two bedroom townhouse, and will be holding interviews for roommates through facebook and myspace...lol
 
I remembered one of the 16 bulletin points stated that the orientation is tentatively scheduled from sept. 14-20. How come so many people are only moving in on the 15th? are those of you guys all from LA originally?

I found the orientation dates strange, as it starts on the 14th, which is a friday...
 
Hey guys, i was hoping u guys could help me out. When u submitted your parent's tax forms was there some sort of signature page associated with the forms? I have a copy of my parent's tax forms but I don't see any 'signature page' associated w/them. Anyway, my fin aid file is incomplete b/c of this missing PAGE 😡 I guess i'm gonna have go the place where my parents got their taxes done.

it should be at the bottom of the last page of the tax forms, i think. I don't think it's a separate page. However, mine says incomplete, too, although I made sure everything was signed and dated. Anyone has this shown as complete?

I have one sheet incomplete too, although i know some of our classmate has them all checked off as complete. Don't worry, i spoke to Frank today and he said expect updates by Friday. If your still incomplete by then, give them a call. gl guys. BTW Ice, where are you staying next year? weyburn?

Yeah, I realized that yesterday :idea: , felt dumb about it too. What happened was that I sent the form to fin aid (including the signature page), but my parents did not sign it. But thanks a lot. 👍

log onto ur URSA and there's a link that says something like "track your financial aid documents". you'll be able to see the status of all the documents there.

Hey guys, I called Frank and he told me their lagging on their update process, expect your info to be updated by the end of this week. Then, we bombard their office with phone calls if they don't deliver! 😀
 
Has anyone chosen a lender yet? I'm not sure how this works, like are we supposed to wait to get something before being able to choose a lender and then sign a Master Promissory Note? Thnx.
My fin aid file on URSA says complete, but on myfao it's not... 😕
 
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing since we're already getting into summer. But anyways, I called up the financial aid office, and I was told that they'll be sending out a list of available lenders that you can choose from, but it is a little delayed, and they're "planning" on sending it out soon. They also said that loans start kicking in in September, so hopefully everyone will have their money before schools starts. Hope that helps 😉

you get your loans in one large sum at the start of every quarter. generally 1-2 weeks before the quarter starts.

fao is the main financial aid webpage. Same information as URSA, but once you get your eFAN (financial aid notification) you'll have to use myfao to accept your awards and loans.

Cool, thanks guys. I got an e-mail from Frank saying that other "continuing students" have priority for final processing of their fin aid apps... I guess that means that we won't be hearing from them for a while.
Also, just got summoned for jury duty, was going to post-pone it b/c it's gonna be really difficult for me go, but I don't wanna deal w/it while in d-school. I don't think you can get out of jury duty b/c of dental school obligations can you?
 
they updated all my financial aid stuff today on ursa. so hopefully it's updated for everyone now.

of course you can! write a letter to them explaining how you can't make it cuz of school and hopefully you get a response back quickly telling you that you're out of it.

Thanks, I'm getting a little uneasy about my housing situation. But yea, i hope to stay near campus, wish me luck 😀
 
Quick question...if we are moving into Weyburn Terrace...do we still have to fill out a general parking application to get parking there? I just called the Weyburn office and they said that you meet with someone in the rental office on your move-in day about parking. That just seems kind of random to me. Let me know what you guys have heard....

so it's kinda confusing, but i think that when we check in with the office during move in, we get a pre-approved application for parking, so we'll be set at weyburn. from what i've gathered, we can't get another campus parking pass if we have the weyburn parking pass, but we can park at school with our weyburn pass after 4pm. any current students wanna weigh in?

I was informed that I have been placed in the TOP percentage of the alternate list at UCLA.
Now, I am getting ready to reapply for the next cycle.
What are the chances of getting off the alternate list?
Should I just forget about the alternate list and reapply again right now or just wait around a few more weeks?

Sorry, i haven't a clue what your chances are...but i don't see anything wrong with reapplying to be on the safe side. I mean, during your reapplication, if you get accepted, then all is good. Otherwise, at least you will be an early applicant of the following cycle. Anyway, either way, best of luck to you.
 
Call Noemi, and tell her your situation!! Its a waste of money to re apply if you're gonna get in!
 
I know we haven't received the specs for our laptops yet, but I am curious to see what size you guys are going to buy. I am trying to decide between getting a larger one that is easy to use & has a nice big screen or a small one that is easier to transport. Does anyone know if we will be lugging them around everyday or just a few days a week?

Anyone?

Hi there. Get a light one that you are comfortable with carrying, since you will most likely bring it to class every single day (at least I do).

On a side note, I heard today that there are quite a few incomings that graduated from UCSD. Good to know! I'm the only person in my class that's from there, it's good to know there are going to be fellow Tritons here next year.

I am not certain how many i have, but i was informed by the clinics that three of my jars are full to the rim.

If so, you probably have several hundred. I only have one jar a little more than half full of teeth and I have over 100 (some of them are kinda crappy and broken, though).

I would call Noemi and let her know your situation. I would wait a little while, is ok if you apply in August. I applied in September and I got to all the schools I wanted to. So don't waste your money (which is a lot) until you hear from UCLA.
