Hey everyone, I'm so happy to be your classmate. Have any of you received any financial aid info and orientation info packets yet? Could you let us know what is included and what we need to do so we can get a head start on our Fin Aid? Thanks a lot. I've started to fill out the forms on the website but am not sure if that's all I need to do. Thanks again. Can't wait to meet you guys. Does anyone have any suggestions for housing? Feel free to PM me. I'm so excited!!  :clap

From what I heard, we will have a private one-on-one meeting with someone in financial aid to discuss our respective needs. I haven't received anything either, but I guess that's b/c we were just aceepted on Monday. Can't wait to meet you all.  😀 😀

Congrats on the acceptance!!!

I think acceptees have received one mailing at this point with info about the whitecoat ceremony, a request for a passport photo and signature for your ID card, and a form for your pre-matriculation physical.

As far as financial aid goes. The office claims that we'll all be getting our offers "mid-July" which I'm hoping means "now." I don't think any of us have got anything yet. If you haven't already filled out your Need Access application -- get to work because it's an enormous pain.

Other than that, sit back and love life because we're going to UCLA.

Looking forward to meeting you all! Anyone going on the camping trip?

When is it? I heard about it through someone who's a second year there but I haven't received the info in the mail. I think I would be interested in going but I hope I'm not too late to sign up. Let me know, please!!!

It sounds like fun. I got the mailing two days ago. I think we should all go. We could use some time to get to know each other without being in the classroom.

Yay! Glad there are others planning to go.

zealous, I'm sure you'll get your mailing soon. The trip is the weekend after the first week of class (the 16th-18th) and the RSVP deadline is the 22nd July. If you don't get something soon, I'd just call the admissions office and let them know you want to come.

bump ...

10 days to go ... after all these years, it's kinda of freaky to think of actually starting!

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I didn't see anything in the info packets about health insurance. Is it included in our tuition/fees? (I hope so). I have crappy private coverage at the moment and can't wait to be rid of it.

Also, has anyone received a parking application yet? There's a note on the website that mentions some form but I haven't gotten it yet.

see you all soon!!

Sorrento,
I feel ya, I still can't believe it. To answer your questions, I'm sure we'll get some kind of health coverage, for a fee of course. I didn't receive a parking application yet either.

Does anyone know exactly how we get the IMF account? Do we go to the BioMed library to get it? Thanks!

Has anyone received their white coat ceremony invitations? Also, has anyone gotten their IMF accounts yet? So much to do, so little time!!! See ya Monday!

Yo zealous,
I got my white coat invitation like a month ago. Its kinda cute. I suspect you should get yours soon, or maybe next week. I havent set up an IMF account yet, but we will do that next week (you have to attend a "proper computer use" meeting at the Biomed library). But you can sign up for your BruinOnline e-mail address (@ucla.edu) at www.bol.ucla.edu.

Woohoo , I cant believe school starts on monday! See ya soon.

What's an IMF account? Maybe I should be paying more attention to the mailings 🙂

Thanks,

Adam

Caliboy,
What's up?!! I got the invitation a while ago and sent in the reply card. I just haven't received the invitations themselves. We are supposed to get some right? Or were we just RSVPing with how many people we're bringing and that's it. I was under the impression that we would later receive some kind of tickets in the mail or something to give to our family to get in. Hmmm?

The IMF account is your login account to use the computers upstairs in the med student study lounge in the BioMed library. I'm not sure what's on them but it's a different system than the BOL.

Thanks,

i've been wondering the same thing 😀

trooooooojans!

i'm jp. congrats to all yall =)

i think the rsvp form we filled out was to give an estimate of the number of people we are bringing along. they pretty much want us to limit it to two, but c'mon, two? anyway, i received my financial aid forms about a week ago. school starts in three days, dang that's soon.

i think i'm missing something here. why is the white coat ceremony a big deal? 😕

zealous: by invitation i thought you meant the original one with the reply card. I don't think there are any separate invitations, although they may give us tickets or something next week.

ceez: It's supposed to symbolize your "entry" into medicine. You recite the Hippocratic oath and you are cloaked with your first white coat by either a faculty member or alumnus. It's a relatively new tradition though, (I think since 1994?).

Hey guys, it's good to hear from my new classmates. I hope everyone is doing well.
I might be able to answer some questions. The parking stuff should have come from the last mailing. You get an application and it's 78 dollars for the first 6-7 weeks. If you don't have a parking permit yet you can buy them at the front for 7 dollars a day or at the parking office for $13 a week.
Health care we have to get at reg. I know ours also covers dental and vision. It's about $750 a year for students $1200 for your spouse.

If you haven't already started yet you might want to get your health checkup. It's definitly not a one day deal.
I'm very excited and can't wait to meet you all. If anyone needs anuhelp getting settled, feel free to PM me.

does anyone know how we're supposed to dress for the foundations week? is it totally relaxed (i.e. whatever we would wear to class like shorts, t-shirts, and sandals) or a little more dressy? thanks, see you guys soon.

I think it's casual, at least from everything I've head so far. That'd be pretty lame if it wasn't.

See you Monday,

Adam

I'll be there with water balloons!!!

Watch the FU#@ OUT!

haha

I was in the hallway outside the financial aid office on Friday and noticed a set of fliers about Foundations week. The fliers listed a set of "ice breaking" activities under the title Survivor 2002. Clans will form -- perhaps an SDN clan.

wooohoo, Survivor...how exciting. Hmmm who's gonna get voted off first...

About the medical insurance, do not pay for it if you already have insurance!! You can waive it and get your 750 bucks back from annual reg fees if you are already insured by your own (or your parents') health plan. You can do this from the URSA homepage by clicking on "SHIP enrollment/waiver." On the other hand, if you don't have insurance, you have no choice but to pay for it...but it's a good deal for students.

Actually, I just checked the URSA link and it's broken. To waive your GSHIP fees, go to www.studenthealth.ucla.edu, click on "online services," then click on "SHIP enrollment/waiver."

How original...

Columbia is doing the exact same thing....Wonder if they all talk about it or something 🙂

Hey All,

I've been off traveling for a bit, hope your summers went well. See you tomorrow (damn that was quick).

hi. if you find out that someone didnt show up to orientation or someone dropped out during orientation week, can you post that information up at ucla waitlist club? it would be helpful and interesting to know. thank you and have fun at ur orientation.

well it's 1:30 am right now and i'm setting my alarm clock for 7. so there is a chance i'll sleep through the alarm and they'll give my spot away when i don't show up. boy that would suck.

hi
mr d posted in the ucla waitlist club that he withdrew today. i was wondering if you knew of somebody not showing up today? according to the admissions office, everyone showed up, but it wouldnt make sense if mr d withdrew. any info would be appreciated.
