***Official UMKC SOD Interview/Acceptance Thread c/o 2022***

One of the dentists that I shadow knew a guy that got in from the waitlist about a week before school started. He called them and apparently someone had just dropped so there was a space. I heard a similar story a few years ago from a student while visiting UMKC, so it's possible to get in off the waitlist. There will always be people who pick another school, get cold feet, etc.

I don't know numbers, of course, but I think it's been discussed that they only interview around 170 for 109 seats...numbers are from memory but should be pretty close- so at least you have an idea about the possible length of the waitlist.

Wes mentioned 170 or so interviews for 109 seats. It all comes down to how many will accept December 1st offers and how many they consider in the second cycle I suppose

So I hear a lot of people are getting emails saying that you, "Aren't accepted but we are considering you for a 2nd round interview." Even for people who have already had interviews. Is that just a "soft no" or do these people have a chance. I'm trying to be supportive to them and say that they weren't straight up rejected without an interview but they don't want to do anything moving forward. They should still send in transcripts, correct? Or is it a no?

Do we have to maintain any certain grades besides passing at this point if we were accepted?
You need a B minimum in all remaining undergrad courses. They’ll confirm that in your mailed letter.

Can some of the accepted folks share their stats/volunteer/shadow summaries

Hey guys congrats on getting accepted!
I'm a D1 here and I'm wondering if anyone in here is Mormon, we got an LDS dental club and I would like to touch base with them if they are interested. Just send me a PM!

I'm pretty sure we're supposed to retain a B minimum in our remaining courses since I've heard it from somewhere else, but my letter / email didn't say anything about it. Did anyone else's?

it should be in your mailed (not emailed) acceptance package. I doubt that you guys already received those. It has a long letter with all you have to do to keep your seat. Also, if you got any scholarships, they package will include a letter for each scholarship.

I am almost certain I will get a C+ in physics, is this a guaranteed rescinded acceptance??? freaking out right now

From my letter "Any grade below a "B" will require that you meet with a member of the admissions committee to determine your continued eligibility for the DDS program."

That does not seem like they will automatically rescind your acceptance, but I'd try to get the highest darned C you can if you can't get it over the line to the B range. Best of luck.

even a B-?

Even a B- is a B. Don't give up hope. Hopefully you aren't done with finals and have a chance to make an impact.
I have my final today but am doomed, I am applying for Navy HPSP and I was drowning in paperwork all week, even out of town for 2 days to do MEPS, so I believe I could present a reasonable argument as to why this should be made an exception to the rule

edit: but for the grade update earlier this semester my teacher said I had an A-, so explaining how I dropped so dramatically will be hard

Why did you drop so drastically?

Why did you drop so drastically?
because of senioritis. plus that class is like 80% exams so if you get a C- on one exam that will drop you a whole letter grade easily. I think I'll be in the B- range but I just have to wait and see. Definitely not letting this happen next semester, lesson learned

totally understand! I think you'll be fine. best of luck!

Is there such a thing as being interviewed a second time? Anyone know of this?

Don't think so. Were you told you would be considered with the second-round of interviewees?

Yes. So is it safe to guess that I will likely get a decision in Jan without another interview? Have ppl ever been accepted in second round as a carry over from first? Or should I assume waitlist or apply next yr scenario?

Isn’t this the first year with post December interviews?

Hi guys, So I got tired of there not being a Facebook group, so I made one for our class. I'm attaching the link below, Can't wait to get to know all of you.

There is no Admin for the groups so I believe that allows everyone to add whomever they choose. Hopefully it works out

Happy holidays everyone and congratulations to those who got the call on December 1st. I hope to hear some good news soon!

It’s alright that the group is closed, but you should make it searchable. That way more classmates will find it. Specially those without SDN accounts.

I found it through the facebook search, you just have to be specific with your search terms and only select "groups"

Did anyone else just get an email from Wes about their rejection of the school?

I emailed him in December confirming that I wanted to attend, and got a confirmation email from him, and also paid my deposit around Dec 6th. But this was the email I received at 5 pm today:

"Thank you for emailing me. We received your notification that you will be attending a different dental school this upcoming fall. This is sad news for us but I am sure that you made the decision that was best for you. As we were not your choice, we would like to learn more about the factors that led to your decision. We would appreciate a few minutes of your time by completing the survey at the link below. Your responses and feedback are important to us."

I know earlier in the application cycle they accidentally sent a mass email to everyone saying that their applications weren't complete, so is this the same situation?

I didn’t receive this email but I am also on the waitlist for now so I’m not in the same ‘group’ as you

So I have a friend who is caught plagiarizing a supplemental essay (he accidentally forwarded to admissions an email containing the essay he copy and pasted from). How bad is this? Anyone heard of being admitted despite such mistake? He is trying to write a letter explaining the situation and trying to get out of the bind somehow.

Wow that’s pretty bad and idk how he is going to explain that away. If they find out you’ve lied in your application it’s a bad deal so I can’t imagine that ending well but I don’t have any inside knowledge or authority. It’s just speculation on my part

Yea seems like plagiarism is serious stuff. Idk if the consequences of this can be anything good

Officially on the alternate list. I interviewed on 10/23. I was notified via email on Friday 1/26 that the second round of acceptances went out. I accepted the spot on the list. I have 3 more interviews coming up but I’m still holding out hope for UMKC. Congratulatikns to everyone who got acceptances

Did you ever find out if it was acceptable to get a B- in a class?
